Every course of every meal was special, and it was a delight for my wife, who does most of the culinary work at home. We were particularly pleased to have a table by the window overlooking your fantastic view of mountains. Our room was so comfortable, and the ‘Alpine’ pillows enchanting and different every day – great imagination by the maid! Your health spa is the best we’ve ever experienced and it’s perfect for relaxing after a day on the pistes of the Wiedersbergerhorn. We both love Austria now, and want to return in the summer months for a walking holiday, possibly with other family members. "Just returned from a fabulous stay at Hotel Alphof in Alpbach (visited 15.2.25 to 22.2.25). Johann and his team make the hotel a very welcoming and friendly experience. Our hotel room was spotlessly clean on arrival and was equipped with a bath with shower over (a great combination in my view). The Austrian twin beds (singles pushed together with separate duvets for each side) were very comfortable. More pillows can be requested at reception if required. The quality of the food at breakfast and dinner (we were staying on a half board basis through Crystal ski) was very high with differing menus each evening (choices of main course had to be made each morning for the evening service). A very varied salad buffet was available each evening, and breakfast was chosen from an extensive buffet every morning. Special requests (for poached eggs for example) could be made via any of the waiters/waitresses. A huge thankyou at this stage to Leslau (hope I’ve spelt that correctly!) and Sabine who served us during our stay. Your kindness really made every mealtime a joy for our small party of 6. We hope you got the chocolates we left for you as a small thankyou for being so helpful. The small indoor pool and newly refurbished sauna areas in the hotel were very welcome after a hard day on the slopes, and Johann himself even offers to take guests on a wonderful torchlit walk one evening a week (lasts about 1 hour) followed by a complimentary gluhwein on the hotel terrace. The hotel bar area opposite main reception is a very welcoming and inviting area at all times of the day and evening, and staff are always on hand to take drink orders so you don’t need to get to the get out of your seat. The open fire in the corner of the bar area gives everything a very homely feel. The ski bus stops directly outside the hotel at fairly frequent times from around 8.30 to 10am (enabling guests to get to the main gondola station and up the mountain to any ski schools etc without any issue) and also runs a fairly frequent service back to the hotel from around 3pm to 4.30pm from the bottom gondola station. If you want to hit the slopes outside these times, there are other ski buses available but these run from the centre of the very pretty village which is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel itself. The hotel provides a complimentary apres-ski snack selection from 3pm to 5pm which is a great touch, albeit drinks are charged to your room if you order any. Altogether we had a fantastic time at the Hotel Alphof. The staff were all so friendly, the food was of a very high quality, and the facilities in the hotel are fantastic. We have been visiting the hotel on and off since 2002, and this was our favourite visit of the past 23 years. We very much hope we can visit again in the not too distant future. "We have never been to Alpbachtal. We really liked it here. No mass tourism, ideal for those who don't want to do anything like that on vacation. The price for our week-long stay was quite high, but we all thought it was reasonable. There really is hardly anything to complain about. The swimming pool could be a little bigger, but it's ok. The family sauna area is very beautiful and we used it often. The food impresses at all meals with its incredibly diverse and high-quality selection of food and drinks. We have never experienced anything like this in any other family hotel. Childcare is absolutely recommended. The staff there treat the children very lovingly. The highlight for our children (8 and 12 years old) were the soccer field, rabbits, alpacas and ponies and a playground. We will be traveling there again next year as we were absolutely thrilled!"

"Two of us went for what we booked as a fixed course dinner. Very confusing as menu had individual courses priced but no fixed menu price. Shambolic uninformative service. Mediocre food at spectacular prices. Plain salad from buffet. Microscopic starter, adequate main and tasteless ice cream self served from buffet. Two drinks. 120 euro. You can do very much better in this pretty village."
