The George Hotel
"This hotel is well situated on the Main Street in Battle. It has a carpark but it is small and quite awkward to use especially at night as there is very little lighting and space to manoeuvre . It seems to be empty most of the day but quickly fills up late afternoon to early evening. The hotel itself is quite old and a little shabby in places. There is no lift and the long, winding staircase looks lovely but is difficult to navigate if you have mobility problems. There appears to be no ground floor rooms. We chose to “up grade” to a superior room, but it was still very basic and a bit rough and ready round the edges. The bathroom was large and the walk in shower was big. The sink was cracked. The room itself was fairly comfortable, but I would not have liked a standard room judging by the quality of a superior room. That being said it was very inexpensive and “did the job”. There was a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities along with biscuits and toiletries in the bathroom. There is no restaurant serving breakfast but there is an Italian restaurant attached (obviously once the dining room for the hotel). Ideal for anyone on a tight budget and very convenient for visiting the town and historic surroundings."
The Abbey Hotel
"The location of the hotel is excellent; the bed and quilt are very comfortable; the building is old and very historical; the breakfast is very British, good; not suitable for older people with boxes, because there is no elevator; the toilet is not flushed smoothly, and the shower pool leaks out. The hotel is suitable for travelers who especially want to pursue history; Not suitable for holding comfortable and modern people to account."
Chequers Inn
"The location of the Chequers Inn was perfect while visiting relatives in Battle, but it is on the corner of a busy roundabout so tends to be a little noisy. Our room was quaint with its sloping floors and exposed beams, while the mishmash of circa 1970 furniture was quite quirky. The bed was modern and very comfortable! However, the room and bathroom were in need of some TLC in terms of replacements and repairs. While our room was serviced the first full day we were there, we were surprised on the second day to come back after a day out to find that other than placing a bottle of water in our room, no other service had been done. If it is their policy not to service rooms daily, we were not informed. Our room was adequate, but it was not luxury. The rooms are not wheelchair accessible and the stairs could present problems for some mobility impaired people. We were welcomed, but we rarely saw the same person twice. We walked through the bar to get to our room without bar staff questioning where we were going. Amazingly, there is no guest code or key to access the accommodation so anyone can wander up to the rooms without being noticed. We did not eat at Chequers Inn, but would probably have had breakfast if it had begun service before 9 a.m. which was not convenient for us."
The Bull
The PowderMills Hotel
"Quirky Georgian property, welcoming staff and pleasant location. Only an overnight stay but a first, a four poster bed ! It was cold weather, but the welcome was warm, with very welcoming log fires and plenty of seating for an evening stay."
