Hotels in New Town, Edinburgh

The hotel is quite big and the location is very good, but the room we set may be cheaper, so it is arranged on the first floor, and the window is directly outside the road, so the curtains cannot be opened. And Edinburgh is exhausted from Chongqing, the front desk is actually on the 4th floor, there is no elevator to the first floor, the luggage has to be moved down, so it is not convenient. In addition, the soundproofing of the hotel is not good, and the sound of the bath water next door is very loud. There is also the door is big red, with the light strips by the door and the corridor at the door, which is very scary. . . There are character paintings hanging in the room, which is not very auspicious. . .

The room was satisfactory, with good water pressure in the shower. It's conveniently located opposite the train station and next to H&M, making it easy to find. Check-in is on the second floor, and there's no elevator, but as a strong woman, I managed. Breakfast was comprehensive (though not as good as the hotels I've stayed in London). Its convenience is its best asset!

In August, during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, all hotels are expensive. Especially for tourists from China, you can't compare the prices to what you'd pay back home. The hotel's biggest advantage is its location. If you consider the Scott Monument as the city's touring center, then this hotel has arguably the best location in the city. It's just a five-minute walk from the train station, directly opposite the monument. Right in front of the hotel is a large sunken garden at the foot of the castle, and the Scottish National Gallery is only a three-minute walk away. There's a bus stop almost right outside the hotel, making it convenient to get around the city. However, this street is only for buses and black cabs; Uber cannot access it. You can ask the front desk to call a taxi for you. Once called, they'll give you a code to confirm the vehicle, so not having a UK mobile number isn't an issue, which is quite convenient. The front desk service was decent, and the breakfast restaurant staff were very warm and welcoming. The service staff on all floors were excellent; housekeeping was prompt and enthusiastic, which is why we left a tip when checking out. The breakfast was very rich and diverse. Of course, you can't compare it to breakfasts in China, which probably offer the most extensive hotel breakfasts in the world. The restaurant's view is unbeatable. At 8 AM, you can easily pick a window seat. Next to the hotel is an M&S Food, which is very convenient for buying groceries. The room was small and had air conditioning. We booked the most basic room type, which overlooked a construction site in an internal courtyard. However, the advantage was that the room was exceptionally quiet. Given that we were out and about visiting attractions all day, and summer days in Edinburgh are long, the room's main function was just for rest and sleep. The main issues were the lack of a refrigerator and that the window could only open a tiny crack, leading to a noticeable odor. Regarding dining around the hotel, we tried two places; they were expensive and the food wasn't great. Taking a few bus stops to Haymarket, however, offered cheaper and tastier options with fewer tourists. Italian, Greek, and Vietnamese pho restaurants there were outstanding. Overall, for a first-time visitor to Edinburgh, staying here is a viable option.

Our trip to Edinburgh was very nice the room was massive never seen a room so big and it had a full size bath and had everything you needed no complaints they don't serve food and breakfast was served in a little cafe down the street and was very tasty we were there for the xmas markets wich I wasn't impressed with its all about the food now and no little trinket stores but the hotel was very good the beds were comfortable it was lovely and warm great location for everything lovely little place across from the hotel Rosa's Thai very good food in there and excellent service couldn't of wished for better

Wonderful location with an adorable room. I also bought a some food for a pack lunch for a tour the next day but there wasn’t a fridge and the staff was super helpful by keeping the food in a fridge until the morning for me.

Everything about this hotel is great, except for the James room type, which I wouldn't recommend. There's currently a large construction site right in front of the James building, so you'll be woken up by construction noise every morning at 7 am. The staff at the front desk, concierge, and breakfast restaurant are all very warm and welcoming. Rooming, in particular, and a Chinese girl at the breakfast restaurant were absolutely fantastic. Housekeeping is very professional and keeps the rooms spotless every day.

Overall, I feel very inconvenient, so the stay is not very good. Because the hotel is very small, there are several rooms, no one after 5 pm and before 9 am, it is very inconvenient to coordinate things and store luggage. Moreover, because the water pipe was broken, it was changed to the hotel next to it without notifying the guests, which brought a lot of inconvenience, so I hope everyone is cautious.

The hotel is right on Princes Street. My room was super spacious and offered a direct view of Edinburgh Castle. It was convenient for visiting attractions and getting to the train station. The only downside is that it's a bit pricey, but everything else was great.

The room quality is on par with a 3-star hotel in China. The hotel staff were very friendly and provided excellent service, but the room layout was quite odd and winding. The bed wasn't very big either. It's super convenient if you want to visit Calton Hill, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're primarily interested in the city center, as it's about a 20-minute walk.
