"If you are considering booking at ANEW Hotel Hluhluwe, please exercise caution. We recently stayed there from 01–03 May 2026 as a group, occupying a lodge designed for five couples. While there were a number of smaller concerns during our stay, we chose not to make an issue of them at the time. However, on the morning of our departure, one of our vehicles was broken into on the property. This is not just disappointing—it is a serious security breach. What is even more concerning is how the situation was handled. On-site representatives, including maintenance and security, gave repeated assurances that camera footage would be made available. Only a day later did we receive communication from management stating that the cameras were not operational. This directly contradicts what we were told during our stay, where strong emphasis was placed on security measures, surveillance, and overall guest safety. As guests, we relied on these assurances. Members of our group, including our spouses, felt comfortable walking around the premises at night under the belief that appropriate security systems were in place. There is a clear gap between what is presented to guests and what is actually in operation. Safety should never be overstated or misrepresented—especially in remote locations where guests are fully dependent on the establishment. Based on our experience, we have lost confidence in the security and transparency of this property. We strongly encourage anyone considering booking to ask detailed questions about security measures and ensure they are satisfied before confirming their stay. Safety cannot be compromised."

Emdoneni Lodge with Zululand Cat Conservation Project ★★★

"The best accommodation of our entire holiday. We booked four nights in the self-catering cottage in August. We received a very friendly welcome at reception, where the lady (sorry I can not remember her name) showed us around the lodge and the accommodation and explained everything to us. All of the staff, from reception to the dinner service to the night porter, were incredibly friendly, helpful and super nice. Large cottage with kitchenette is fully equipped. Very lovingly furnished and very cosy. Main bedroom with comfortable bed, large bathroom and very large outdoor shower (almost an outdoor landscape). Smaller bedroom for the children, but also with shower and toilet. Great garden with a fire pit, comfortable chairs and a bench for breakfast. Zebras visit regularly and the cottage is directly opposite the cat enclosure. Breakfast outside, eye to eye with cheetahs and caracals, was really special. The delicious dinner at the lodge (book in advance) is particularly recommended. Our children also spent every evening in the game room playing billiards and table tennis. Emdoneni is very well located – 30 minutes from Hluhluwe Park and 1 hour from St Lucia. Many, many thanks to the Emdoneni team. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Falaza. Staff was incredibly attentive to details and made a huge effort to fulfil all our requests. Food was of a high standard and each meal was super tasty. Please definitely try lemon curd muffins and teriyaki beef wraps 😁 Property and its nature is beautiful and staying is the tents is very comfortable. We did plenty of great activities - boat river cruise, walk and game drive in the Falaza park and Hluhluwe and will definitely come back. Thank you Falaza! "

"it was magical to be in lodges surrounded by vegetation and wild life, the genets came onto the verandah, and so did monkeys. some zebras were our breakfast guests, the frogs serenaded us, the chameleons hid, and a dung beetle worked tirelessy The room was enormous,and well furnished with a comfy bed and pair of easy chairs large bathroom and shower room plus an outside bath, the lodge was spotlessly clean and refreshed each day the central lodge was a lovely airy room with a welcoming fire and hosts and the buffet breakfasts and evening meals were plentiful and delicious"
