Varis House ★★
"The hotel is in a great location. Just walk across the street after getting off the airport bus. I stayed on the top floor, a bit like a loft. It wasn't particularly comfortable, but the view was great, including the main road traffic. Although it was still under 10°C outside in late May, the landlord gave me an electric heater, which was very cozy. The bathroom also had a skylight, which you could open for some fresh air. The room amenities were average, with few toiletries. Tea and coffee were available at the restaurant downstairs. The breakfast wasn't particularly suited to Chinese palates; it was a buffet. I only had two slices of bread, a banana, and a bag of cereal. The hotel is a five-minute walk from the town center, but the only Tesco supermarket there is a bit more challenging, taking 20 minutes in the wind and rain."
The Lerwick Hotel ★★★
"I should start with that the front desk folks were very kind and super-helpful. The folks working in the restaurant were kind but often seemed as if they just woke up from a nap and weren't ready to interact with anyone. Melancholy. The front exterior of the hotel is a little deceiving as it looks so modern. Once you enter the hotel it immediately changes to a very 90's feel, and then when you get to your room it feels like you're staying a few nights at your grandmother's house. I'm assuming they're going through a slow remodel as some of the rooms on their website look very nice with modern amenities. My biggest gripe about this hotel was the bathroom. My particular room had the toilet right up against the wall and the heated towel right right next to that. So you have to sit sideways on the toilet so as not to burn your leg on the towel rack. I'm not a big person and I still had to sit sideways. It works, sure, but it's kinda weird. The room was clean but not as clean as it could be. Needed a good dusting. The painted over wallpaper was peeling in a lot of places in the room which made it feel very run down. There is a huge flatscreen TV with lots of channels if you get stuck inside or just need some wind-down time in front of the TV. The breakfast was pretty good, you have a lot of choices from cold to ready-made hot options. The dinner at the restaurant is decent. A good amount of options and the food was all pretty good. Someone else mentioned their steak was cooked poorly but mine was cooked to perfection. No complaints. I would stay here again but I would request one of the nicer/newly remodeled rooms. "
Glen Orchy House ★★
"The hotel rooms, especially the communal lounges, appear not to have been aired for months. Everywhere is stale and dank and dusty and unhygienic. Opening the bedroom window meant we could breathe more easily but each breath seemed to transfer mounds of dust from the mattress to our lungs. We survived one night but - despite the convenient location and delightful views -we will not return."
Queens Hotel ★★★
"Very clean and the best shower I have had in a long time. This hotel is in transition, so if you need everything to be the best and perfect, don't stay here. But the location is terrific and the rooms are clean. I would stay here again. We had a corner room which overlooked Lerwick Harbor from one window and Bains Beach from the other. We listened to the waves as we fell asleep. The staff was friendly. Over time, I expect more work will be done. Eventually, the restaurant will open. But for today? We had everything we needed. Yes, I will stay again!!"
The Shetland Hotel ★★★
"Location environment service is very good, nothing to say! The interior style is relatively old, but the sanitary condition is very good and the stay is very comfortable. The hotel's breakfast is very rich and delicious, and dinner is very convenient. Outside the window is the sea and the island opposite. The other side of the hotel is a hiking area. It is also very convenient to visit museums and shopping."
Eddlewood Guest House ★★★
"Eddlewood is a lovely guesthouse with bright, clean, comfortable rooms, a great location (good and easily found on-street parking, too) and a great host. This was my second stay, made all the more welcoming when greeted by name. Not suitable if unable to do stairs, though."
Fort Charlotte Guest House ★★★
"Great property run by lovely people. Exceptionally located. Rooms are comfortable, clean and have everything you need. Breakfast options are outstanding and the friendly hosts are always willing to help you out and offer advice. Perfect accommodation in a wonderful destination."
