"We had a great 2-night stay at Townend Farm B&B. Julie and Ian are such welcoming hosts, the room was so clean, well appointed and had beautiful rural views. Julie serves a delicious, generous breakfast with plenty of choice. The property is in a peaceful yet very well-placed location for exploring this beautiful area of North Yorkshire, with a good bus service if you want a break from driving. We hope to return!"

"Absolutely beautiful stay and Julie is our saviour!! After a hectic (to say the least) kerfuffle with a cancelled room nearby, not only could we book Townend Farm last minute in the evening but Julie came to pick us up almost immediately. From then on the stay was just beautiful, the building itself, and the room, alongside the warm welcome and personable service makes Townend feel like a home away from home. The room is spotless and warm and comfortable, breakfast is with a warm greeting and catered wonderfully to our dietary requirements (and I want to stress again, our stay was very last minute!) and Julie could never do enough for us. From providing bus routes and local recommendations to offering to book a table at the nearby pub for lunch, we didn’t just feel like any other guest we were made to feel incredibly welcomed. All in all, I would recommend this stay a million times over! Made our goth weekend an unforgettable one."

"Having stayed at the hotel on Saturday 4th, we came in from a lovely evening to lots of barking & yelping from a clearly very distressed dog that had been left alone in the next room. This went on for an hour before I went downstairs at 12 midnight to be told by Kaz behind the bar that she knew who’s dog it was & she would let them know. The owners did come upstairs & after a few raised voice & choice words the barking stopped. However the music in the bar continued until past 1am. This resulted in a very poor nights sleep. The next morning I went downstairs to a very aggressive Kaz who shouted at me & point blankly refused any apology or refund, the chef also came out & said the policy was to allow dogs to be left unattended in the room. Could not believe that this is actually acceptable. We can’t tell you what breakfast was like, even though we had paid for it as we walked out. Please avoid this hotel & maybe Kaz needs some training in customer service"

"A traditional spot in the English countryside. A key feature is the fantastic view from the houses; on a clear evening, enjoying a beer there is pure bliss. It's also a great place for stargazing at night, with a wide-open vista. Other aspects were standard, a traditional inn. The food was decent; we had dinner—a large portion of lasagna, very filling. We skipped breakfast. The highlight here is the view from the open space in front of the house; I'll definitely have a beer there next time. It was too cold and windy this time."

"We made a booking in February for a 2 night stay in August in order to perform at the Saltburn Folk Festival and they took our deposit of £75. With only a month to go, they cancelled our booking with no apology and no explanation. I have come to learn that they have been cancelling bookings for some months. Only after chasing them several times did we manage to get the deposit back. The staff are clearly embarrassed by the cancellation system and do not know what excuse to give. I eventually had communication from one of the owners, who told me that some rooms are being renovated and others have been let on a long-term contract. Why then did they take our booking (and many others) in the first place? One might wonder whether this is a ploy to use the interest on people’s deposits to pay for the renovation work. The most infuriating thing about the whole situation was the owner’s haughty attitude. He was not a bit sorry for breaking our contract or for the inconvenience it has caused us. I would not now use this establishment under the current owners as a matter of principal and would urge anyone who respects good manners and common decency to avoid it."

"Very clean and modern hotel just a short walk from Stockton High Street (incidentally, only 16 minutes walk from Thornaby rail station which is the better option than Stockton station itself - ironic that the town that gave us the railways has a mostly abandoned rail station!) Reception staff were friendly and efficient allowing me to check in early to get to the Stockton Calling festival. Buffet style breakfast didn't disappoint either! Will definitely be returning!"
