"First impressions were good and facilities and room were impressive. BUT We stayed in room 12 where the bed advertised as a double was smaller and more like a queen size which made it uncomfortable for two people. The room was so hot with no air-con or a fan so we naturally opened all the windows which overlook the garden area. We were kept up until nearly 2am with the owners/staff talking very loudly right outside the window with all the garden lights on too. In addition to this, the room is directly above the reception where the lady who worked there was constantly chatting on her phone and you could hear the whole conversations through the floor. We found the staff to be very unprofessional considering they’re running a hotel and know that people are trying to sleep. Also, they were nowhere to be found when you actually needed someone. One morning we walked about a mile into the town to get a coffee because the machine needed to be filled, two other people had already asked but the lady was in the garden busy meditating!"

"Sunday carvery only, we are local and visited just for lunch on 1st March 2026. Carvery cost £16.95 £8.50 starter and £8.50 desert. Unfortunately the meat was very tough and the tables around us said the same. Potatoes weren’t nice either very greasy, hard and chewy and deep fried. Nothing had flavour very disappointing as used to be good here. Never had chance to order desert because no one came to the table to either clear plates or take our Order."

"Exceptional stay, in a clean very comfy guest house. The host Sammy was so welcoming! After my long 5 hour drive, I was met with a tray of a lovely strong pot of tea and biscuits. Breakfast was exceptional! I would easily have paid double the price I was charged. I will definitely be coming back. Thanks Sammy!"

"We visited The Gate for a two night stay & stayed in The Loft studio apartment. The studio is very nice with a very comfortable bed, table & chairs, very nice shower room, balcony with gorgeous green countryside views, a bathtub on the balcony if you fancy a bit of alfresco bathing & a tiny kitchenette, which was very useful. There is also a good coffee machine with pods provided. The TV can also get Netflix etc & that was good too. There is a restaurant there too but it was closed during our stay & we didn’t need it as we had breakfast in our Loft studio. The owner Richard was excellent at communicating with us, giving us tips on restaurants & places & beaches nearby to go. He was an excellent host. I would definitely stay here again."

"My wife and I stayed at Sawyer's for a long weekend our Wedding Anniversary and we couldn't fault it ⭐👍 I saw lots of great reviews and then two recent ones which concerned us but turned out to be mainly just incorrect. The staff were very nice and so helpful. The room (No 3) was perfect with modern quality furniture, a comfy bed and an amazing shower and bathroom. Big TV, lots of tea, coffee etc, kettle, hairdryer. Nice comfy sofa.. I could go on. The view from the room is lovely over the sea. The road outside is NOT busy with traffic and you can sit on the chairs outside and people watch. Breakfast is plentiful, well cooked and lots of choice. Super location and some great walks. Easy walk into Looe East over the bridge. We will definitely return !"
