Ylang Ylang Beach Resort ★★★

"Stunning resort! I stayed in the Treetop Cabin, and I loved how it was located the farthest away from the other rooms. Being surrounded by the jungle up high made it so private and peaceful. I even had the white-faced monkeys come visit me on the porch! The restaurant had some of the best food I've ever eaten, and the service was great. It was so convenient booking our tours through the resort. Being older, the tub/shower combo although beautifully done was challenging to get in and out of, but II was able to shower in the outside shower. Even though the resort is located on the beach, it is not a beach that anyone could swim in because the waves were too strong and there were so many large rocks and boulders that could be dangerous to crash into. Nobody could swim in that water so that was disappointing. Also was told that the waterfall was an easy path, but that is only if you are a mountain goat or a rock climber! There's no way I could have climbed over the large boulders and rocks to get up high enough to see a waterfall. This is a great resort for younger, more adventurous tourists but it is challenging for older folks."

Sunshine Sanctuary Boutique Jungle Lodge ★★★

"On foot and without a car, the hotel is very difficult to access, you have to walk and climb large hills, good physical condition is recommended. The strong point: superb, modern and comfortable room with a magnificent view of the jungle and the ocean. Hearty breakfast on the terrace. Negative points: non-existent staff, everything is done via Wathsapp. The hotel was under construction and the common areas were poorly maintained (swimming pools, stairs). The room was not cleaned during our stay. The cook was alone, a little overwhelmed and trying to get by as best she could in a kitchen with questionable hygiene."

"We came to hotel NYA for our honeymoon and were very impressed by the service! By far the best hotel stay we’ve had so far, the rooms were very clean, breakfast was delicious, and staff were very kind and helpful. Every day the staff delivered a little dessert to our room free of charge, and surprised us with a honeymoon gift of a bottle of champagne and a charcuterie board with warm fresh made bread and a handmade card. We highly recommend NYA for anyone staying in Montezuma!"

El Sano Banano Beachside Hotel ★★★

"The good: the hotel is located a short walk from the beach, right in the middle of the tiny town of Montezuma. Through their sister hotel Ylang Ylang, I booked a fantastic birding tour with eagle-eyed Eduardo. It was inexpensive and included breakfast and air conditioning. The not so good: the mattress was quite hard. I thought there might not be hot water, but it was just very slow. The layout is that there's a hallway with side by side rooms. The room had a window that looked out onto the hallway, but no exterior light. There were also noisy neighbors and there was no sound dampening. You have to ask for the wifi password. I tried to walk down the beach to Ylang Ylang for the pool, and maybe it was just me, but it was much more than a 10 minute walk! There is a shady dirt road, but nobody seemed to know how I could get to it. "

"Perfect little room. Amazing pools. Great staff. Wonderful location. My children and I enjoyed a fabulous 2 days here but would have happily stayed for 2 weeks. Plenty of places nearby to eat. I definitely recommend the walk to playa grande."
