"Booked this stay to explore the areas around Lake Biwa. Reception was warm and friendly with an English-speaking host who provided us with the information for the stay. We booked the western style room as we preferred an attached bathroom, however the room condition was outdated and needs refurbishment, like peeling surfaces. The Japanese style room looked better when we caught a glimpse during check-out time. Nevertheless, location and amenities were great. Location is near major eateries and commercial centres by a short drive."

"(1) Very cosy and traditional Japan "Onsen Hotel" (p.s. No Onsen) (2) Old and historical but very clean and tidy (3) Hieizan and the Enryakuji Template is the most comfortable, natural, silent, zen (you name it) place in Japan after Koyasan. The two mountains full of Buddhist wisdom. A must visit."

"Style. Converted traditional machiyas scattered throughout town, Japanese Nordic fusion Setting. Otsu, Southern end of Lake Biwa, only 20 minutes from Kyoto by car or two stations away Explore. Otsu is a quiet languid town with lots of interesting historical buildings. I was here a week before the "Otsu Festival", 1 of the three major festivals in the lake country and an important intangible folk cultural property designated by the country. 2 of the 13 Hikiyamas floats were being assembled near the Hotel’s reception (Ohmiya) & it was fun to listen to the kids practice their music for the festival. Hotel Koo also offers local tours for free and really encourages guests to eat out, shop etc. to revitalize Otsu. I quite enjoyed the walk and visit to the Mitsuhashi Setsuko Museum of Art, and just strolling Otsu. Rooms. I booked the entry level room which was 32 sq meter only. They have rooms/villas that are up to 100 square meter. My small but immaculate room had no closet but a clothing rack. No slippers either and only two tea bags were provided. I was happy with the bathtub but next time I’ll book a bigger room/villa @ the hotel. The day checking in I had trouble reaching the hotel by phone. Once there, staff were nice and helpful. Refreshing chestnut parfait at checkin and free sake provided in the evening. Food & drinks. Hotel booked Kasen for me, where I had a very satisfying hyperlocal meal. Prices. Value for money @ $174 Rating. 4/5"

Koke Musu Inn

"A lovely place, unique. Very interesting decor. Well organised with a lot packed in to a small space. Bar and pool room, plus a dining area. Room was very well thought out, with everything needed. All was spotlessly clean and we were cooked a very tasty omi beef meal for dinner. The location was good and the owners extremely kind and helpful. An unusual and interesting hotel, well worth a visit. Highly recommended."

"The portions for dinner and breakfast were very generous, even though they were described as "light set meals." The front desk staff and waitresses were all very friendly. Because the hotel is small, it had a homey atmosphere and I was able to relax. The cute mascot dog came to see me off."

"You can take a hot spring. The hotel itself is old, but the breakfast is delicious and good. In particular, the nearby Enrakuji on Mount Hiei is a really good place. A place I would like to visit again."

"Shadian is very clean, has a view of Lake Bipa, and has a hot spring♨️. You can take a dip when you return to Shadian after playing all day. It is very comfortable. There is also free parking for the convenience of self-driving travelers."

Ofuro Café New Biwako Hotel

"I stayed for business, but I heard that the hotel had a public bath, so I made a reservation hoping to relax in a bath after work. The space was more comfortable than I expected, with a sauna and an open-air bath, and the food served within the facility was delicious. Breakfast was simple, but was included and I was able to relax thoroughly. I'd definitely like to use the hotel again if there is a machine available."
