"This place in on the second floor of a historical building. It has the atmosphere of an up market B&B, rather than a hotel. There is a lift to help with luggage. Room, bathroom and bed were all very comfortable and well maintained, with good functioning AC. Breakfast was good, but mainly sweet. A few things I wish I'd known: (i) there are a lot of mosquitos in Pavia. Before you venture out, invest in and apply a good repellent. I got multiple bites - even around the eyes! (ii) there is a lot of street noise until about 2am. The hotel tries to help out by offering ear plugs. We slept well, but if you're a light sleeper or sensitive to noise, this could be a real issue. (iii) If you use the concierge parking provided by the hotel, check that the concierge is in residence. We paid 30 euros per night and ended up having to collect and park the car ourselves 3 out of 4 times. I complained on check-out and just received the argument (literally) that in our information e-mail this service was marked as "suspended". Apparently it was still possible to charge for a suspended service. (iv) the hotel is close to a restricted access area. This makes it difficult to find and drive to, even using navigation. Ask the hotel for detailed instructions in advance - otherwise when you finally arrive exhausted, you might just be tempted to take up the concierge-without-the-concierge parking option (see above). The breakfast staff, room service and afternoon reception staff were all charming, kind and helpful. I wish I could say the same about one lady on reception (and her passing-by boss?) in the mornings of our stay."

"The service at all staff levels was superlative! The care that the employees of the Moderna take in order to welcome and assist their clientele was unsurpassed in our eight visits to Italy over the past half century. Our room, though not large,was equipped with every modern convenience, the lighting,the bed, the storage closet and the spacious bathroom were designed for maximum comfort. The dinners served in the well appointed dining room were excellent; the breakfasts deserve a five star rating. Our six day stay in the Hotel Moderna was totally rewarding. The decor of the otherwise smart lobby and elevator landings would be mightily improved by removing horrid unattractive sculptures and dreadful artificial flower/botanical decorations."

"I stayed here for two nights as a solo traveler. I also stayed here last year. It's located in a residential area of ​​a small town away from the center of Pavia. There's a bus that runs close to the hotel, so it's not inconvenient. It's nice that you can freely use the shared kitchen and free space in the basement. However, the facilities have deteriorated since last year. For example, the bathroom door no longer closes. You can't check in if the owner isn't there, so I recommend contacting them in advance."

"The building is dilapidated, the furnishings, the room, and its layout are embarrassing. Camping beds and mattresses, and the bathroom and shower are to be avoided. I preferred not to wash myself rather than get a fungus. The cost is excessive and it's unacceptable that in 2025, these kinds of accommodation facilities still exist in northern Italy, scamming tourists... an experience to forget!"

"B&B quite close to the center. Villa with a beautiful garden and pool. Volando has a car indoor place. The house has a furniture where many books are highlighted: beautiful! The room was very large and had a very comfortable bed and couch, a little redundant furnishings, but the atmosphere was very pleasant and we had a very good sleep. The breakfast was not at the room's height: few products and a little dozens. The price a little high even the low season but at the end ... we could come back, perhaps in spring."

"We picked this hotel because it is about an hour or so from the Milan Airport and we wanted somewhere to rest after an all night flight before we went on our way. Tortona is a very small Italian town with very little to offer in terms of tourism or restaurants. That being said, it was perfect for what we wanted. The Hotel Aurora was also perfect for a one night layover. It is very clean and comfortable and offers a breakfast that wasn't all that exciting. The people are very nice who run the hotel and made us feel comfortable. There is a restaurant at the hotel that probably is very good but we couldn't say awake to eat at 8:30 which is when it opens for dinner. The Wi-Fi in the room was not very strong. The bathroom was also comfortable but the shower was not made for someone who is particularly large. We had a good night's sleep there and were on our way."

"Le Stanze di Cardinale is a wonderful place/location to stay while exploring Pavia and the surrounding area. It’s located right in the center of town on the city’s Duomo piazza. Restaurants, sites and the train station are within walking distance. In Pavia you are centrally located to easily take a train to Milan for a day trip or even stretch to Genoa. The only challenge may be parking a car, we use the trains and friends, so I’m not certain. I am sure Paolo could provide information, he is a gracious, welcoming and a helpful host. Our room was spacious, comfortable and always clean. My wife and I come time to time from America to visit friends who live in Pavia and wouldn't consider anywhere else to stay. This is an incredible value for the money. We highly recommend it."
