"Stayed here on my coast to coast walk. Long day walking from Haweswater to Orton. Walked into the pub in the hope I could camp in their beer garden and received the best welcome I’ve ever had in a pub! Spoke to the manager and asked if they still allow coast to coast camping in the beer garden. His reply was literally “Yes of course. Now get that pack off and what do you want to drink?” Staying here was one of the highlights of my adventure. Had a great nights sleep! Free WiFi so after days wild camping I could catch up with friends and family and the food is first class. The George is such a friendly local village pub with a great atmosphere. If you’re planning your coast to coast, this is a definite place to stay! There’s not much other accommodation in the area so this was perfect! Thank you for an unforgettable welcome!!"

The Kings Arms Temple Sowerby

"Stayed at the Kings Arms in Temple Sowerby with friends over Easter Sunday and had a brilliant time. The afternoon kicked off in the beer garden with a barbecue, live singer, hog roast and a special punch—all really well done and a great atmosphere. In the evening we had a fantastic meal—locally sourced venison in red wine jus, beautifully cooked. Easily 5* quality. The bar and lounge had a great feel—relaxed, moody lighting, and very much the modern vintage vibe. We ended the night in the games room with a few rounds of darts and pool. Rooms were a real surprise—much more spacious than expected, with large en-suites and spot-on for a 4* stay. Breakfast was just as good—buffet style with fried egg, grilled tomato, black pudding, haggis, bacon, and plenty of cereal options. All in all, the recently refurbed Kings Arms is a great choice for a short stay near Penrith and the Lakes. A few locals pointed us towards nearby fell walks with panoramic views—so we’ll definitely be back. Big thanks to the staff for a great stay."

"Stayed here for work. I’d describe this as a pub with rooms. The room was quite small and the tv didn’t work but it was quiet and I slept well. Dinner was really nice - freshly cooked and the restaurant was busy which was a good sign. Nice cosy place with a wood burner in the bar."

"Really enjoyed our stay here on a motorcycle trip around Yorkshire and The Lakes. In beautifully kept grounds, the White House guest rooms were lovely , the hostess welcoming and attentive without being overbearing.. even made room in the garage for the bikes to keep them out of the rain :-) . Excellent breakfast too. Great value for money , and a peaceful haven in a hectic week ! I’ll be back !!"

"I had a one night stay after a days walking in the fells. On arrival I had a the most warm welcome from the owner and felt at home straight away, she also gave me useful info about parking and directions to a local restaurant where I was meeting friends. My room was clean, warm and comfortable with pleasant decor, tea and coffee and modern en suite. It was easy to come and go and just 2 mins walk from the main street, bars and restaurants. I pre-ordered a full English breakfast which was delicious and served in nice surroundings. Overall a very pleasant experience, I’ll stay here again, thank you "

"Host Vickie of Abbey House B&B definitely made our first trip to Penrith a truly memorable experience. She was prompt with our pre-arrival queries. We love our suite with the "Thoughtful Drawer", bathrobes and delicious breakfast spread. Bonus is also its convenient location to train and bus stations for day trip to Lake District as well as walking distance to village squares with quaint local-owned artisanal shops, markets, and diners.
