"We enjoyed a few days at the beautiful Shimanto Riverside Hideaway. This traditional Japanese house is meticulously maintained: clean, stylish, and fully furnished in Japanese style. A wonderful place to truly unwind. We traveled to Shimanto by train, a comfortable way to explore southern Japan. We took a taxi for the last leg of the journey to the Hideaway—easy to do and definitely worth it for the tranquility and beauty of the place. Kenji, the owner, is incredibly hospitable and passionate. He helps you with everything—from restaurant recommendations to day trips. One day, he even personally took us to Cape Ashizuri. Along the way, we stopped at a secluded sandy beach where turtles nest and tasted the famous katsuobushi—dried and smoked bonito (skipjack tuna) fish flakes, a specialty of this region. A unique experience! Shimanto city is a 15-minute drive away and is a charming town. We were lucky enough to experience the traditional summer festival there on July 26, 2025: a colorful parade with decorated floats, music, big drums, singing, and dancing. Beautiful! In and around the house, you can borrow bicycles (ideal for exploring nature), go boating on the river, or even go whale watching (although the weather unfortunately spoiled our plans). As an alternative, we visited the dragonfly museum – small, but interesting. In short: if you're looking for peace, nature, tradition, and warm hospitality in southwestern Japan, then Shimanto Riverside Hideaway is an absolute must. Thank you, Kenji – we'd love to come back!"

"This is the hotel I stayed at when I visited Nakamura, Shimanto City, Kochi Prefecture. It's about a 20-minute walk from Nakamura Station, but it's in the center of Shimanto City, and there are many restaurants nearby, so I had no trouble finding something to eat or do sightseeing. Breakfast was a buffet at the restaurant on the first floor, but it was relatively delicious. There was a large hot spring bath on the fourth floor, and when I soaked in the hot water, it was slippery, like an eel in the Shimanto River. Since there was only one bath, men and women were required to take turns using different times, which was a bit inconvenient."

"I had high expectations because the hotel was located on a hill and could see the Shimanto River, but the room was on the second floor, facing the mountain, and I could only see the unmaintained backyard, let alone the Shimanto River.I asked to change the room, but they said it was fully booked. It was not possible due to this. The meal was served in a dish bowl, with various side dishes served in small portions on a large plate, but none of them were exquisite, and they were all mediocre and completely disappointing. It felt like a 3000 yen dish served in the city. The hot spring was small and clean, but the sound of the water was so warm that no matter how much I used it, I felt uncomfortable. I think 23,000 yen per person per night is too expensive. It's a no-brainer and I'll probably never visit again."

"The house is a very rustic traditional dwelling located in a quiet little village. To enter the village, you need to cross a sunken bridge, a local landmark. The house is very clean, and the cups and tableware are of high quality. The only thing to note is that while the guesthouse states that cooking is allowed, open flames are actually prohibited. There are no shops or restaurants nearby; the nearest commercial area is a 20-minute drive away."

"I just happened to see a hotel in Taipei in order to eat at an izakaya. The room was large, but the facilities were old and the hot spring was small. I didn’t know why there were floating objects in the hot spring that day... Someone must have done something unhygienic. I hope the hotel can be repaired at any time. Confirm the hygiene level of the hot spring. The breakfast is very good, simple and delicious, and the scenery is great. It is a good place to relax. The only inconvenience is that there is an access control. You need to return to the hotel before 10 o'clock, or call in advance to inform you that you will be late!"
