"If we don't want to pay hundreds of euros for a place to stay while visiting Sesriem and Sossusvlei, we'll have to find accommodation about an hour and a half away, that is, here. Solitaire Roadhouse meets the basics and a little more. It's a complex with about thirty rooms (all on the ground floor and with an entrance where there is a table and two chairs facing the garden). Ours was spacious, with two large beds (mattresses and sheets are adequate), an armchair, a single bedside table, a small table, and a closet without doors (there is a safe). The bathroom is fine (toilet and sink) with a floor-standing shower (without a screen or curtain), plenty of water, and standard towels. Air conditioning and stone floors. Wi-Fi is only available near the restaurant, and cleanliness is acceptable. The garden is beautiful, with a small pool and several old cars for decoration. There is a chapel, a shop, and a restaurant. There's also a gas station and a garage. Friendly staff (the first thing they tell you, after several hours on rough roads, is the usual joke in these countries: this isn't "Solitaire Roadhouse"; that accommodation is about 7 hours away). There's a car park (unfenced) and the restaurant serves a good, reasonably priced dinner. Breakfast is quite filling. And McGregor's Bakery opens at 7 a.m., where you can buy the famous apple pie, which has been made here for fifty years and is not bad. There's no TV in the rooms (which is manageable), but there's also no refrigerator (inexplicable). Wi-Fi is nonexistent in the rooms (only available near the restaurant). The price, by Namibian standards, is high for what they offer."

"We only stayed at this lodge for one night. We received a very friendly welcome, but the tent was very small and very dark. The air conditioning didn't work, so it was very hot! A group of English people had helped themselves to the buffet before us, and by the time it was our turn, the buffet was already empty. Only after asking several times did we get anything other than sausages and cold lamb. We also had to ask several times for breakfast to finally be served. All in all, this was the worst lodge in all of Namibia. We even found the often negatively reviewed Halali Rest Camp in Etosha National Park to be much better."

"A must visit. This was one of the most unique travel experiences you could have anywhere in the world let alone Namibia. We recommend going to enjoy the property and home vs trying to make the day trips to dunes (stay closer for one night for that) Fidel and the team was incredible. Everything was over and above well stocked with endless options. It’s one of a kind - go!"
