Van der Valk Hotel Spa

Van der Valk Hotel Spa

📍 Pl. Royale 39, Spa
★★★★ 8.4 (76 reviews)

"Location in the heart of Spa. Easy to get to the thermal baths via the funicular connected to the hotel. Cleanliness ok On the other hand, impersonal and not friendly staff. Room service ok but little choice. Tip: ask for a room with a city view"

Radisson Blu Balmoral Hotel, Spa

"Pleasant stay at the hotel. Clean accommodation and nice rooms. We had the superior room and the only downside was that the two single beds kept sliding apart. Easily solved if wheels with brakes were installed. Otherwise, friendly staff and a great breakfast."

"Great location right in the centre of the town near all the restaurants and sights. It has a large car park although it’s not easy to get a large car through the narrow entrance, but it’s free to just park on the busy street outside. Very friendly staff provide excellent service and a lovely fresh breakfast. It’s a nice quirky old hotel but do double check your room the double en-suite we booked turned out to be around a lift shaft so you could only get out of one side of the bed so we upgraded to their new annex."

Les Bains De Spa

Les Bains De Spa

📍 Place Royale, 2, Spa
★★★★ 8.8 (63 reviews)

"Stayed here for a weekend and I really wanted to like it more than I did. To start with the positive: the building and overall design of the hotel are truly exceptional. It has a beautiful, classical feel and is honestly the main reason to come here. Also, the staff member handling the car and luggage was great — friendly and professional. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The overall service level is simply not what you expect from a five-star hotel. Waiting times were too long, and the staff in both the restaurant and the bar often seemed inattentive. The spa concept is also questionable. Limiting access to one hour might help avoid crowds, but it’s just not enough time to properly relax. More importantly, this should be clearly communicated upfront — I only found out upon arrival. Breakfast was another disappointment. At €45 per person, it felt overpriced for what was offered. Having to make your own coffee at that price point doesn’t make sense, and while the food was fine, it wasn’t anything special. Overall, while I’d love to return just for the building itself, the service issues make that unlikely."

Hôtel-Restaurant l'Auberge

📍 Pl. du Monument 3/4, Spa

"Unless there’s somewhere special I have in mind, I tend to have a habit of patronising the restaurant attached to the accommodation I have booked. At this stage I have only booked a single night in Spa. At dinner I notice there are no ashtrays on the tables. I ask if this is a smoke free restaurant. The waiter tells me that at the moment no one is smoking, but they are allowed to smoke if they wish. I ask if I can move if someone starts smoking. No! Once you sit down, you cannot move. {emphasis on the full stop} Okay, so I’m paying over $100 for dinner and if some inconsiderate wants to smoke and ruin my night, then I have to just suck it all up. After that conversation, the waiter now serves me without eye contact. The food is placed on the table, he utters something in French and briskly walks away. There is no explanation as to what is in the soup of the day. The table next to me appears to have ordered soup of the day as well, but it is a completely different colour. So did I get yesterday’s leftovers. To those who speak French he jokes and smiles – the ultimate shmoozer. In the French part of Belgium, no one seems to speak English. Not an issue – it’s their country – but the change from the Dutch part to the French part is interesting. I am now looked down upon for not speaking their local language. I get the whole language thing, but as an Australian coming to Europe for a couple of months, am I really expected to learn 5 or 6 differnt languages to make everyone happy. As to the waiter; his shoes are cheap; his pants are too long as he can’t be bothered taking them up and they are sliding down under his pot belly since he’s not wearing a belt. Yet somewhere in his mind he is above me in status without knowing a single thing about me. After both waiters ignore me for ages, he finally comes to collect my glass. He looks at me with raised eyebrows. There is no verbalised question as to whether I would like another glass of wine, more a disdainful look – he will not lower himself to utter words to someone less than himself. I request another glass and ask if it could be in a bigger glass, explaining that Pinot Noir needs to breathe – I was initially served a much smaller glass than every other table. Hmmpph. Okay He placed the glass on my table and walked away as quickly as he could with no eye contact. I raised my palms to the sky in exasperation as he walked away. He approached me a few minutes later and told me that his fellow waitress had claimed I was still asking him a question when he walked away. I explained why I felt aggrieved and he told me that he was sorry I had interpreted things this way. After dinner I walk across the square to anothet hotel who gives me an air conditioned room for 10% less for the following night. "

Hôtel l'Ecrin d'Ô

📍 Rue De La Sauveniere 108, Spa
★★★ 9.6 (52 reviews)

"Thierry welcomed us warmly and gave us excellent information about what to do in Spa, where to find the best spa waters. Parking is available and it’s a short walk into town. We booked the suite which was tastefully decorated and modern, no carpets, wooden flooring, which we love! The bed was comfortable with fine linens and we had a large balcony to enjoy. Despite being near the main road the room was quiet at night with the windows closed. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice of breads, croissants, cheeses, hams, fruits , etc. We will be back to this lovely small hotel."

Hotel la Reine

Hotel la Reine

📍 Av. Reine Astrid 86, Spa

"The person at the reception is very cold and not professional, not even friendly. The rooms are clean but not more, a little expensive for the price/night. On the other hand, the mattresses are very bad which gave us very poor sleep. Nothing worse than that! The hotel restaurant is OK but under the large window it is much too hot even in the evening!"

"The location is in the center of the town. There is a party pool. It is one of the better hotels in the town. There are not many options. The air conditioning is not very good."

"Very lovely building. Exceptionally clean and well maintained. Excellent location just five minutes from Spa rail stn. Beautiful breakfast buffet and any type of eggs cooked to your liking. Room overlooked the garden. Bathroom immaculate. Quiet and restful stay. Appears to be ample off street parking although we didn’t use as we came from Brussels via train."

Les Bains De Spa ★★★★
"Good location. Not much atmosphere. Room beautiful and bed very big and comfortable. Downside: no complementary bottle of drinking water. Service at the bar was poor and not professional. Staff too amateurish in attitude and lacking attention. Don’t seem to be qualified. Breakfast was quite good in choice but definitely not of 5-star standard despite the hefty room rates. All drinks from machine and hot milk from machine was barely warm. I don’t like to complain but the service and food (breakfast), we’re really not in keeping with the building’s prestige. Spa: beautiful but the shampoo and shower gel bottles in the shower room were empty. I was already standing under the shower when I realised it so couldn’t go out to ask for some. Unpleasant experience. The service and amenities need to be upgraded. Btw, the small piece of cake served with my welcome drink, was definitely stale. Was it because it was complimentary?"

"A wonderful memory, looking like an old postcard, where the smoke coming from the chimney, subliminally recommended the Inn, for the warmth of its Table and its Hospitality. A wide open door, where you feel good, and where life is the simplest, most authentic. An atmosphere that awakens memories of happy days. Everything is so clean in the Residence... Both up and down its decor, everything is truly Spacious. You feel at home there. Food reminds us of the good times, to see it coming, to smell it... of these plates hotly taken out of one's kitchen, and to have the courage to offer these dishes, as good, as pleasant, as hospitality and a true gastronomy have the merit of offering and still existing, forming an integral part of our once world heritage, heritage of our national humanity which testifies for education, as much to science as to our culture, to transmit a state of spirit, for those who know how to recognize the extraordinary in their region and its inhabitants.
