Hotel Monasterio ★★★★

"I stayed at this hotel for 1 night as part of a group tour. The hotel is in a good location a couple of streets from the main square. Reception coverage by staff could be a bit sparse at times, we had to wait a while for someone to come. The hotel itself is a slice of history. It's extremely characterful, decorated in a Spanish colonial style. I was the only person staying in my room, there was a double bed and also a loft with 2 single beds. The main area wasn't huge but it was large enough. The plug sockets weren't in the most convenient locations, a theme I'm noticing in Bolivian hotels. The bathroom was a good size and clean, and the hot water was reliable. The bed was comfortable enough, but during the night I was too hot with the quilt covering me, and too cold with only the sheet. The wood of the hotel also creaked a lot during the night. My room overlooked one of the courtyards, and unfortunately the curtains were very thin so the hall lights streamed through until they turned them off. Also the wifi was extremely slow in my room. The hotel has a rooftop bar with good views of the city, I watched the sunset there and got a glass of local wine which was reasonably priced. The breakfast was poor. They said it started at 7 am, but they only opened the doors at that time and the only items there were stuff that had clearly been left out since the night before. It took them a while to bring fresher things and coffee, I thought this was a very poor show on the hotel's part. The selection wasn't amazing. Overall this was a very characterful hotel, but the drawbacks I listed would prevent me from staying there again."

"Everything was perfect. Breakfast was good. Clean. The problem was that they changed my room once I was already there and didn't allow me to change my breakfast (I arrived very early in the morning). They were also strict about the arrival time. Apart from the staff, everything was really perfect."

"Superb historic residence transformed into a hotel ideally located in Sucre. But: Noisy and poorly insulated rooms. Bathrooms from another age. Smells of sewage in some rooms. Very average breakfast. Staff bordering on politeness. We can clearly see that the operators are making no effort even though they have a little gem in their hands! Damage..."

Hotel Villa Antigua ★★★★

"The hotel is truly beautiful, with a colonial style and a third-floor terrace offering lovely views. Cleanliness was impeccable. However, the service doesn't live up to the price (it's among the most expensive in Sucre). There were no thoughtful touches in the room; a bottle of water would have been the bare minimum. There were no glasses in the bathroom, so you have to rinse your teeth at the tap (this is a 4-star hotel...!!). Breakfast was mediocre; the employee in charge of breakfast completely ignored us. She didn't offer eggs; you had to ask for them, to the point that I didn't get any for two days because I thought they were out. In conclusion, apart from the very friendly receptionists, there is absolutely no attention to the customer. As a hospitality professional, it disappoints me to see such a beautiful hotel so poorly managed. This hotel relies solely on its architecture. What a shame."

"Amazing B&B right in the heart of Sucre while feeling like a private little oasis. Carmen is a wonderful hosts and goes out of her way to ensure that your stay in Sucre is as special as possible. Lovely breakfast served in a beautiful courtyard/garden area. I spent a wonderful day reading in the garden on the deck chairs. Wonderful place to relax and recover after visiting the salt flats before heading towards la Paz and Lake Titicaca. Sucre is beautiful and you would be missing out to stay anywhere else while you are here!"

"Lovely place, few steps from the main square. Rooms are clean, well furnished, with comfortable bed, safety box. Wifi works just fine. The building itself is beautiful, so the breakfast room, and the breakfast offer, as well. We had a great time!"
