Royal Seven Stars Hotel
"The room was so big with a bath too. The location couldn’t have been more Perfect opposite the bus stop. The staff were so friendly the breakfast was great. Loved my stay here."
Cbh Dartington Hall Hotel
"Wow what a fabulous setting. Such a lovely location with so much to offer. Breakfast was great with a buffet style hot and cold choices. Bed was very comfy and shower hot and excellent pressure. Only stayed 1 night but now on my radar as I will stay again on my next trip to south Devon."
King William IV
"The location is great for Totnes main street and staff friendly but £100 a night is over priced, no breakfast or car parking included either. The parking meter outside is for an hour only in the day. The rooms are directly above the pub so you can hear the bar music clearly. But the music does stop promptly at 11pm. No double glazing ( to be fair the pub is probably listed so can't have it) means you can hear everything including the rain falling from a broken gutter outside the window, so it's noisy. Take ear plugs. The room is tired and needs a refresh as does the shower which keeps falling off its 'arm'. Totnes however is well worth a visit. And the staff are lovely. "
Best Western the Dartmouth Hotel Golf Spa
"Good location and nice surroundings, food was ok but nothing more."
The Waterman's Arms
"Stayed there few times over the years, however under new management. Delighted to say the wonderful Paul and Gayle are now running things- nothing too much trouble, very friendly and already giving the place some tlc. It’s a lovely location and hopefully will be back soon."
The Great Grubb
"Had a two night stay at this B and B recently under new management. New owners warm and welcoming but I think are needing to try to catch their breath and look at some of the finer details of the establishment. I’m aware they are planning to do so. Parking available and close to the town which is a positive Breakfast was good, second day a little more generous . Room was tired and dark and could do with some updating Bed comfy ,clean bed linen but not pressed Wish the hosts success in the future"
The Maltsters Arms
"We had my brothers birthday meal here. There were 10 of us ranging from 4yr to 91yrs and everyone LOVED it. The welcome and service was wonderful. Food was delicious, good ranage of wines and drinks, veiws and atmosphere was perfect, a real treat for us all!"
The Bull Inn
"To understand the Bull you need to understand Totnes. Totnes is an unusual town. A very long steep high street and virtually no chain shops (except BootsI think) . There is a proliferation of shops selling floaty clothes , and arty things. And the town is full of youngish folk dressed in a style old folks like me would class as alternative. Nothing wrong with any of this but it sets the scene. The Bull fits into the Totnes scene. Its staff are young and a bit Alternative. The menus are handwritten blackboards carried from table to table. (but inconsistently the orders are then taken on an iPad (?). The description of each dish tends to be quite long and complicated- and while its is far from being all veggie it is rather veggie focussed. I thought it was expensive (mind you I think everywhere is expensive) . But when you are paying £29 for a main course I sort of expect it to be pretty spectacular. The menu has small plates and mains and you are welcome to mix and match so you dont have to stick to starter main pud etc. I did however find £13 for a cheese board consisting of just one piece of brie ( yes-only one cheese) and three biscuits a bit much. (By contrast the next hotel we stayed in offered three cheeses with extensive trimmings for under a tenner - and it was a more expensive place). This place is the home of Shabby chic. Bare plaster unpainted ceilings etc The restaurant and rooms are by design worn- some parts seem to have been furnished by a house clearance firm -and while I found that quite OK some might resile a bit . Bed was fine. Bathroom was good but the hand held shower bit was a test. It's an old building so it has to cope with the design limitations(there is a noisy kitchen extractor in the premises upstairs but which only is noisy when the kitchen is operating). Go and try it you will probably like it . The staff are jolly nice."
The Durant Arms
"Great food, friendly staff. Lacked a bit of atmosphere as we were the only ones eating in there on a February Happy term Thursday evening it was very wet and windy so maybe that put people off as when I booked the day before the pub sounded really busy but the food was great."
