"I would have to say that this stay was better than last year's, it all came down to being assigned a different room, I liked the layout better, the bathroom had a view, the air-conditioning worked well and was silent, there was little noise from adjoining rooms (maybe no-one else was there?) Check-in went smoothly this time (there is no reception), I called and was told that we could arrive earlier, we were meet at the door, so no confusion like last year. We self-catered for breakfast buying supplies from a local supermarket and storing in the mini-bar refrigerator. Outside the guest rooms in the corridor was a communal buffet where you can make tea/coffee, there was also a fruit basket and packaged muffins for guests. I love the location of the hotel, the decor and comfort, the views looking over to the river from our room, an easy access to the Camino path. Vila do Conde is a beautiful coastal town to visit and to wander the streets."

"This was an absolutely wonderful stay after my first day walking the Camino Portugués. I don’t have enough words at my disposal to describe how wonderful of a host Elisabete is! She is so warm and welcoming, and exactly what one needs after a day of walking, carrying all your belongings on your back. The facilities were lovely, the breakfast entirely flexible and high quality, and the welcoming beer was perfect. Laundry services and additional beverages are readily available for a small fee. Elisabete even switched over my laundry and brought it up to my room. There is a restaurant a short walk away where you can watch the surf while you eat or perhaps a sunset, as we did. Cannot recommend Smiling Places enough! Please stay here if you have the chance. You’ll see what I mean! And to all the walkers among us, Bom Caminho!"

"After a long day of walking on the Camino, Vila do Conde was a welcome sight, after crossing the river our accommodation was a short walk away. Arriving at the address we had no directions as to how to check in so I rang the contact number and soon was greeted by a staff member from the adjoining restaurant who spoke no English. Our room was on the first floor facing the street with a view of the river. While the room was small, it was neat and tidy, clean bathroom and a delightful decor. In the foyer outside our room was a communal buffet with provisions to make hot drinks. We had a comfortable one night stay, we kept the windows closed to minimise street noise and ran the air-conditioner to keep up cool. No breakfast was provided, we self-catered with supplies bought from a local supermarket the day before and stored in the mini-bar frig. A nice stay."

"right on the caminho this place looks lovely from the outside and is just as impressive on the inside.from my 2 visits in a short time scale both rooms were spacious and very comfortable and a nice place to relax,add on some lovely gardens with a pool and your in for a bit of a treat but it is the friendly host and the meal with like minded people from all over the world that make this place even more memorable."
