The Talbot Inn ★★★

📍 Oxford Rd, Eynsham, Witney

"Last Sunday I had a breakfast with my family who were staying at the hotel. The breakfast menu had 4 cooked breakfasts on offer (with prices shown) and also offered tea, coffee, toast etc with no prices shown. I assumed that since, for example, the full English was £17 that tea was included. That would be a fair price. There was nothing on the menu saying it was not. Prior to my hot food arriving I had a small Pain au Chocolat. When it came to paying I was charged for my Breakfast roll (£10) and separately for two small pots of tea. I was also charged an additional £19 for the pastry. Unbelievable rip off. Just downright dishonest in my view - some of the sharpest business practice I have encountered. When I questioned the bill the staff were rude, condescending and unhelpful - implying I should have guessed a small pastry would be £19. Suggest you do not eat here unless you want to be ripped off."

"I emailed beforehand to ask for early check in but no one got back to me - so we came a bit earlier and luckily were told that we could check in when we returned from the wedding we were attending. The breakfast buffet was a 3/10, the hash browns tasted like they'd been deep fried in the same oil for the last year. The worst part was that my husband came back slightly later to the hotel, asked for a key to the room and the reception staff asked for no ID to check the name on the booking, they just handed over the key. With what has been in the news recently, you would think the staff would be checking these things and security would be better!"

"Lewis our waiter was very attentive and efficient. The menu was full of choice, slightly disappointed they had ran out of Roast Turkey & Hake Special… but it was 5pm on a Sunday and they had been busy I’d expect. We opted for the roast beef and chicken both tasty and portion size was spot on not too big or small. We will be back with the family I’m sure."

"Stayed after visiting the Cotswolds, bit of a mixed bag- booked premier plus room, nice enough room, bath lovely but quite high to step in and out of, toiletries were lovely and nice big towels. Could have done with an extra pillow but bed was comfortable enough. Couldn’t get air con to stay on so sweating buckets , no idea why the windows can’t be opened! Only a few channels on tv and not really a bar area to sit in. Bought the meal deal really wished we hadn’t- no idea how one person is supposed to keep an eye on guests checking in , taking orders and serving food ! Waited 45 mins for starters bbq chicken wings turned out to be chicken wings swimming in a bowl of bbq sauce and fish baked to within a inch of its life but again one person having to do everything isn’t great. Breakfast had a good choice but was cold with the world’s slowest toaster! The staff are going a good job but could do with some help."

"I have eaten at the picturesque Rose Rivived a few times recently and always had a lovely meal and great service. I have mostly chosen the delicious Belly Pork (my favourite). We went again yesterday 5th April with family and friends and again had lovely meal (Belly Pork again for me) with great, friendly, attentive service by Kat in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, never feeling rushed or hurried. We will definitely be returning soon."
