Friendly service from reception staff. Housekeeping requests attended to promptly. Friendly greetings from staff at main entrance too. Spacious room for solo traveller. Only minor issues: water pressure in shower quite weak, room aircon very cold and adjusting thermostat did not increase the temperature.

The location is superb, walkable distance to Darul Hana bridge, India Street, Carpenter Street and Borneo Cultures Museum. Plaza Merdeka is right beside the hotel, you can go to the mall through hotel lobby. I love how comfy the bed is and receptionist is very kind and helpful. Highly recommended!

Convenient location opposite a local eatery area and coin-laundry across the road from the main entrance. There is direct access via a glass door from lobby to Boulevard Mall which has a small food court, smart supermarket, Watson, Guardian, Pizza Hut, Mr DIY. Hotel pool & gym at level 6. The gym has spacious floor space including 2 separate areas for yoga and exercises, away from the good range of equipment & free weights. My corner Deluxe room is spacious (45 M2,) with separate sitting area and even a timber deck for kids or exercises. Big comfortable bed/firm mattress, clean shower/bath room with strong water pressure, window offers good view of Kuching city all way to Matang and Santubong. Breakfast buffet offers both Malaysian & Western hot food, fruits, salad and yoghurt, tea, coffee, teh tarik and fruits drink.

I’m in Sibu for a business trip and staying at this hotel for the first time. They provide secure parking with guards, so I felt very safe leaving my car here. The rooms are decent—not brand new, but well-maintained. I especially loved the buffet breakfast; it’s very spread out and delicious. If having a good breakfast is a priority for you, I highly recommend this hotel.

Must choose river view room, it can see the whole Kuching river front especially in the night. The location is very convenient for food searching. The breakfast is very scrumptious and there is a wide variety of food choices in the buffet.

We initially booked an Executive Standard Room but discovered that the air conditioner wasn’t working properly—it only blew warm air. We contacted the front desk, and the maintenance team responded promptly to check on it. Since it was already late at night, the hotel kindly upgraded us to a Premium Deluxe Double Room, for which we were thankful. However, I must point out that the air conditioner in the upgraded room was also not very cold.

Stayed at the old wing (block where the main lobby is). Everything needs an upgrade. From the carpet to the doors of the cabinet and working desk, the power plugs on the wall, the phone, the bathroom with mould in the corners etc. it’s also always cold in the old wing. Slept without turning on the air con every night. Breakfast was buffet style and had a good variety. But for me; the only thing that was good was the coffee machine. Maybe also because I’ve been to this city many times and I know there are a lot of good food just a few mins walk away. Staff was great though. Housekeeping cleaned the bathtub rubber mat for me, brought water when asked and cafe staff were friendly and nice. Many other hotel options in the city; I wouldn’t recommend this one.

I booked a Standard Hill View King on Chinese New Year Eve, The overall stay is a decent one, was provided with one King size bed and one single size bed, room was equipped with one mini fridge, one kettle and some cups, tissues, TV but the satellite line was bad as TV line appears unstable, small hair dryer, you can refer to photo I posted for amenities and room view, what I showed is all I got. Breakfast wasn't many choice but good enough, they have laksa, kolomee, salad, nasi lemak, bread

The facilities are excellent as it's a newly built hotel. I was especially satisfied with the king-sized bed; it was spacious enough for a family of three. We added an extra bed for our child, but it probably wasn't even necessary. My only minor regret is that the large guest room I stayed in didn't have a bathtub. The pool view is superb, and with a roof overhead, you can use it regardless of the time or weather, which is great. The water is a bit cold, though. The indoor showers at the pool were incredibly convenient. You can even get towels from the gym, so you can shower there before heading back to your room. My only slight disappointment is that some staff members didn't quite deliver the 5-star service expected of a hotel like this. Despite that, if you're ever in Kuching, I highly recommend staying here.

HHjh Mimi Hj YusofGuest Status: Long-time loyal guest (4th stay) Overall Rating: 2/5 (Disappointed) We have returned to the City Rise Hotel three times previously, and our excellent experiences led us to leave positive reviews and recommend the hotel. Unfortunately, our fourth stay was highly disappointing and felt drastically different due to apparent overbooking and a failure in resource management, particularly during peak times. Connectivity Issues Our stay began with a frustrating technical glitch. While initially connected, the in-room TV lost its Wi-Fi connection. When attempting to reconnect to the guest network, the on-screen keyboard necessary to input the password did not appear. While this was a minor issue for a single night's stay, the overall Wi-Fi speed was extremely poor, which we suspect was due to the unusually high number of guests placing a strain on the network. Chaotic and Inaccessible Breakfast (Major Concern) The biggest issue arose during breakfast, which has always been a highlight of our previous visits. We arrived at 8:30 AM, well within the expanded serving window (6:00 AM to 10:30 AM). The dining area was beyond packed, it was chaotic. There was a significant queue just to enter, and once our room number was ticked off by the staff (meaning we were recorded as having consumed breakfast), we quickly realized there were zero available seats. Approximately 20 guests were standing, plate in hand, waiting for an empty table, and there was no crowd control, with people blatantly cutting the entry queue. My husband approached the staff to suggest opening an adjacent hall, as we had seen done during previous busy stays. The request was denied, citing that the hall was reserved for an event. He then asked if we could, at least, take a plate back to our room given the seating crisis, but this was also denied. We questioned the difference between taking food to the room and standard room service, but the decision remained firm. Ultimately, due to the extreme overcrowding, the stress of competing for a seat, and the lack of any proactive management of the situation, we chose to forego breakfast entirely. Despite not eating, our room was already marked as having utilized the service. This was particularly frustrating as we were checking out soon and did not have time to wait for the situation to resolve itself. Severe Parking Congestion The strain on the hotel's capacity was also evident in the parking area upon our return in the evening. The parking lot was full to an unprecedented degree, with cars parked illegally and inappropriately in areas like the main entrance, highlighting a clear lack of available space and regulation. Verdict from us? It appears the hotel management may have dramatically overbooked the premises without scaling key resources (like dining space and parking) to match the guest load. The capacity for breakfast was clearly exceeded. We highly recommend that the hotel implements stricter occupancy rules, re-evaluates its dining capacity (perhaps revisiting the policy of opening secondary halls, which worked well in the past), and verifies the number of guests receiving complimentary breakfast to prevent overcrowding. While we have always loved the City Rise Hotel, this visit's lack of preparedness and poor handling of the breakfast situation has seriously damaged our opinion, and we will hesitate to book again during what appears to be any peak period.

AAnonymous UserReview: A Pleasant and Comfortable Stay – Worth the Value During my recent stay, I had the pleasure of experiencing one of the most spacious and well-equipped rooms I’ve ever booked within this price range. The room was exceptionally huge, offering more than enough space to move around freely without feeling cramped or cluttered. Whether you’re traveling solo, with a partner, or even with family, the room size can easily accommodate extra luggage or a few hours of in-room activities without making the space feel overcrowded. One of the first things I appreciated was how clean and organized everything was upon arrival. The bed was neatly made, the floor spotless, and all surfaces dust-free. The layout of the room was practical, with the furniture arranged in a way that made the space feel both functional and cozy. The bed was large and comfortable, providing excellent rest after a long day. The pillows and blankets provided were also of good quality, not too stiff and not too soft—just right for a peaceful night’s sleep. Amenities in the room were impressive and met all basic needs for a comfortable stay. Firstly, the hot water functioned perfectly, which is always a plus point in any accommodation. Some places advertise hot showers only for you to find lukewarm water at best—but not here. The water pressure was just right, and the shower area was clean and equipped with enough towels and toiletries to last through the stay. Another amenity that stood out was the mini fridge. This was particularly convenient as I was able to store snacks and drinks to enjoy at my leisure. It worked well and was clean inside—no foul smells or leftover stains. It's always great to have a functioning fridge in the room, especially for longer stays. There was also a television available in the room, which offered a decent selection of channels. While I didn’t spend too much time watching TV, it was a nice option to have, especially if you're planning on relaxing in the room for the evening. The remote worked, and the image quality was clear with no issues in signal. Small touches like a clothes rack, a mirror, and a desk or table were also present, which added to the practicality of the room. It was easy to keep things organized and have a spot to sit down and work or eat if needed. Overall, I would say this stay was well worth the value. The room was not only large and comfortable but also thoughtfully equipped with everything one might need for a short or even extended stay. It’s clear that attention was paid to guest comfort and convenience. For anyone looking for a spacious, clean, and well-maintained place with all the essential amenities functioning as expected, I would definitely recommend this accommodation.

SsuekNot aware that pullman was having some renovation and we need to take staircase to level 2 and get the lift to our room. Also next day after cleaner done the room service noticed she pressed the toilet bowl flush button too hard and never bounced back caused water kept flushing nonstop. Lucky I have returned to hotel room as, forgot to take something and tried to pull that flush button up. I I felt still have room for improvement for quality or cleaner. Overall the counter staffs and others are very friendly and helpful too. Good location of this hotel and look forward again to stay hopefully the renovation done.

GGuest UserThe children’s pool with slides requires better maintenance, as insects were present. Parking is located quite far from the main area; however, buggy services are available and helpful. All staff members were very friendly, attentive, and supportive throughout our stay. The room was spacious. Although we did not receive a full sea view—only a partial one—the scenery was still stunning. The ambience of the resort is very refreshing, with high ceilings and a breezy environment that creates a relaxing atmosphere. There are many activities available, and the resort is within walking distance to a beautiful beach. Swimming is not very suitable due to strong tides, but the soft sand makes it ideal for children to play. There are two large pools: one specifically designed for children with slides, and another main pool where mini kayaks and floating flamingos are available for rent. The kids’ activity area is very creative, with games such as dam ular and various board games. The breakfast buffet offered a good range of choices, although I had a better dining experience during a previous visit for work purposes. Unfortunately, room service dining was not satisfactory—the fries were soggy, the fried rice was overly oily, and the carbonara was average. There was also some confusion regarding a 20% insider discount, as we were initially informed it was applicable, but later told that the discount was only valid at Horizon Café not in room service. They should explain better :( Overall, it was a pleasant stay, and with some improvements—particularly in maintenance and food quality—it could be an even better experience.

GGuest UserOverall, the stay itself was comfortable, and the room met expectations. The hotel's aesthetic is elegant and beautiful, and its location is convenient, surrounded by chinese restaurants within easy walking distance. The breakfast buffet was also good and enjoyable. However, the experience was unfortunately dampened by issues at the front desk, hygiene standards in the common areas, and soundproofing. We arrived around 10am and requested an early check-in, fully understanding that the standard check-in time is 2pm and that any earlier arrangement is subject to room availability and discretion. However, we were told by staff that early check-in would only be possible with an additional charge of RM160. This created an uncomfortable impression where it felt less like a matter of room availability and more like withholding an available room in order to impose extra charges. The tone suggests monetising convenience which we weren't particularly happy about. After checked-in around 5pm. we noticed dirty plates on the floor left near the lift area. What was more concerning was that these plates were still there in the same spot the next morning when we checked out. This raised questions about cleanliness and hygiene, especially in shared spaces. In addition, the soundproofing could be improved. Noise from children crying near the lift was clearly audible, and due to the hotel's proximity to the airport, airplane noise could also be heard. This may be a concern for light sleepers or guests seeking a quieter stay. While the room and overall stay were generally good, these experiences affected our impression.

TTravellingmaudeCheck in was quick and smooth, and the reception staff were courteous and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and the bedding was comfortable, which made for a pleasant stay. The hotel has taken steps towards sustainability, and we appreciated the unlimited filtered water provided, which reduced the need for bottled water. The breakfast spread was excellent with a good variety of options, and we really enjoyed that part of the stay. A couple of points to note. The air conditioning in the room was not very strong, and we did feel a bit warm at times. The hairdryer was also on the weaker side, which made drying hair slow. Overall, a comfortable stay with good service and a strong breakfast offering, with minor improvements that could make the experience even better.

GGuest UserTo best describe this place, it's like a mini paradise atop a cliff overlooking the beautiful sea, with a twist of staying in large cylindrical concert culverts. You can easily spot it along the road to Damai with its large circular logo at its gate. It was closed upon my arrival at 3pm, but due to the main entrance being easily seen from the receptionist area, it didn't take long for them to open the gate, and I just drove right in. The receptionist was very polite and welcoming, decently professional as well, after checking us in we were given a quick tour around, highlighting the facilities and public areas. The room itself, being quite quirky in its own way, isn't too difficult to maneuver around, as long as you don't rush yourself and knock yourself around the relatively tiny room. Adequate steps are built to help climbing up and moving around, with simple storage spots around the bed, which by itself takes up about half of the room. The other side of the room is the bathing area, which I would say is surprisingly spacious enough to use. So a bed and a bathing area sums up the entire, unique cylindrical room. The hotel itself is nicely planned, guests can pamper themselves by picking their favorite spots located around the place, and enjoy a marvelous view of the sea. There's also a small private beach all the way down the cliff too. Facilities include swimming pools, sauna room, washer + dryer machines, gymnasium, library, etc. are pretty neat if you need them. I would say the place is great for couples, and a short refresher trip. I technically live in the city just half an hour drive away, but to catch a break from work and relax here for a day, I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat. Just make sure you've got the legs to climb up and down the place!
