Sleeping in Miami Airport – Sleep Pods, Lounges, and the Best Airport Hotels

Miami International Airport (MIA) is a leading U.S. aviation hub linking North America with Latin America and the Caribbean.

You might have just landed at MIA after a long red-eye flight, only to realize your next flight to South America isn’t until early the next morning. What do you do now? Can you actually sleep at the airport? Should you book a nearby hotel instead?

Don’t worry. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about spending a night at Miami International Airport.

Is Miami Airport Open 24 Hours?

Good news. You won't have to worry much, since MIA airport is open 24/7, all-year-round. Airport security and police will not turn away overnight passengers with onward boarding passes!

✔️ If you decide to stay overnight in MIA, be sure to buy late-night snacks and enough water before 10 p.m. Because late at night, only a very few 24-hour convenience stores or vending machines located in the Central Terminal may still be open.

Can I Stay in either the Airside or the Landside?

Yes, you can stay in either area.

However, the area inside security is safer and cleaner. You must have a departure boarding pass valid for at least 24 hours. If you have large luggage to check in and the check-in counters are closed late at night, you won't be able to get in.

The area outside security is noisier. It's generally where transit passengers who have cleared customs after landing on international flights, and overnight passengers whose luggage cannot be checked early, choose to rest.

Airport Lounges at Miami Airport

Don't worry, Miami has lounges, but unfortunately, most aren't open 24 hours.

Most lounges typically close between 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM and reopens between 4:30 AM and 5:00 AM.

However, in the South Terminal (Concourse H/J), two lounges are open 24/7/365:

  • Turkish Airlines Lounge : Open 24 hours, it has showers and even a few daybeds.
  • Avianca / TAP VIP Lounge: Open 24 hours.

👉 And it's definitely not only for business class passengers!

You'll receive a free Priority Pass (PP) card if you hold a US travel credit card (such as Chase Sapphire Reserve, Capital One Venture X, or Amex Platinum).

With your PP card, you can directly and freely enter the aforementioned 24-hour Turkish Airlines lounge (South Terminal) and Avianca lounge.

Practical Tips for Your Layover at MIA

  • Sleeping bags are fine, as long as they don't block walkways, emergency exits, or check-in counters.
  • If you plan to sleep on the floor, be sure to bring a sleeping bag, a lightweight travel mat, or a thick hoodie, otherwise you'll definitely catch a cold.
  • There are some relatively quiet nooks near Gates D15 and D43 on Concourse D, with thicker carpets.
  • The corridors on the fourth floor of the central and northern terminals are relatively quiet late at night with few people around.
  • Single travelers, please take good care of your luggage. Keep valuables with you at all times, and keep them close to your body when you sleep.
