Augill Castle

"Cracking boutique hotel, with lovely staff. This hotel has been rescued by its current owners after buying it as a wreck 20 years ago. It has been refurbished sympathetically to a very high standard. We went as a Motorhome stopover(which they can accommodate if they can, but only if they have space, and requires you to book). We had dinner and breakfast and although a limited menu what was available was excellent quality and very tasty. The breakfast was excellent value for money and came with superb service. This hidden gem deserves to be fuller."

Redstones Hotel

Redstones Hotel

📍 Redstones Hotel Dufton, Dufton
★★★ 9.1 (7 reviews)

"We stayed here by chance. The original plan was to camp, but a forecast storm suggested a change of plans. The Redstones was right where we wanted to be, had a room on the same night and was a decent price. Everything looked good. Arriving at the hotel we were impressed by the quality of the finish (everything looking brand new -the hotel has been open almost a year). The bedroom was really comfortable and the bathroom spacious. Breakfast (cooked to order) was superb with good quality sausages, bacon, black pudding and haggis. Good coffee too. Would definitely recommend this place as a base for walking etc in this area. The building is an old youth hotel and still has a kit drying room."

New Crown Inn

New Crown Inn

📍 Bolton, Bolton
★★★★ 8.9 (28 reviews)

"The full inclusive arrangement is only possible if you book directly, not via an intermediate. However, booking online does not present the full option. The best way seems to be to book by phone and make your wishes explicit. The hotel facilities are new and very pleasant. A good hotel in a tranquil location. "

The King's Head

The King's Head

📍 Riverside, Ravenstonedale
★★★ 9.5 (40 reviews)

"Trying to review restaurant only as did not stay over Suited my friends as they enjoy the charm and tasteful decor - singer also which was a lovely surprise. Possibly the best we could have gotten in the area but feel I need to comment that even though the Sunday roast lamb was tasty and enough with 4 slices; the veg consisted of 3 half inch strips of spring cabbage and a tiny roasted carrot, tiny roasted parsnip and one or two small roast potatoes. The plate is stacked and 2/3 filled (not sure why the space is left on the plate ). Not sure what the aversion to vegetables is about- I did comment and ask for more but not allowed. The crumbles my friends had, they said were delicious. I’m bemused by the kebab pudding. The marshmallows, strawberries and brownies were skewered and on the plate base is a cold oatcake. Now my birth town is Stoke on Trent and this looked and tasted like a pottery oatcake. These are warmed or toasted and eaten with bacon or cheese- certainly not eaten cold 🤢😂- won’t harm you but not that pleasant. Possibly the chef isn’t able to make crepes 🤷‍♀️…..ask the master chef 24 who has his photo on the wall !"

"Arrived early hours due to hold up on motorway receptionist was pleasant and welcoming easy check in room clean and tidy. Couldn’t fault the staff everyone was lovely .Hotel is in need of an upgrade but no reflection on the staff or level of service great location for our onward journey to Scotland . Services had plenty to offer Greggs M&S Costa and fast food outlets ."

"It was so refreshing to stay at a hotel which did not feel so much as a hotel as a very relaxing country house where we did not have to worry about everyday living. The environment is amazing - very different with unusual decoration, antiques etc. The room we stayed in had turrets and a leather sofa. We experienced breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea, and did not need to eat for a couple of days afterwards - very good!! The scenery round about is sublime even in November. We definitely will be going back."

"This beautifully re-furbished hotel is situated in the delightful, quiet village of Dufton at a reasonable price. The décor is superb and the rooms are furnished to a high standard. The twin beds are comfortable and the room includes tea/coffee making facilities, TV, bottled water and a hair dryer. The walk-in shower is clean with plenty of hot water and free toiletries. The shared breakfast lounge is spacious and clean and serves breakfast to order (no evening meals available). There is also a boot room and private parking. Booking is done by remote communication (no receptionist) although clear instructions and the codes are communicated by emails. I didn’t see a sign indicating the hotel name or the main door entry. It’s essential to book the Stag Inn for evening meals (especially Saturday), as it was fully booked, but we enjoyed having a drink outside (with a bag of crisps)! Some of roads are quite narrow to drive to this picturesque village."

The King's Head ★★★
"Without doubt THE best pub with accommodation in the country. So glad we have found this pub as it’s a the perfect stopover when looking for somewhere near the M6 but also fantastic location for visiting the Yorkshire Dales and it’s so peaceful. If you want to bring your dog then they’re welcome too. Kenni and staff are all so welcoming and are perfect hosts. It has such a lovely, cosy atmosphere. You can either sit and relax in the bar area next to the roaring fire or the dining area is also lovely with its beautiful decor and flagstone floors. The food is delicious and breakfast is 10/10. The bedrooms are a good size and I had one of my best nights sleep. The rooms have everything you need including disposable toothbrush/toothpaste should you forget yours. We have recommended The Kingshead to many people and can’t wait to return. Hopefully very soon"
