Kunming Panlong District Hotels

The hotel is in the city, so the room isn't huge, but I love the color scheme. The little tag on the mineral water bottle was a nice touch. I really enjoyed just relaxing in the room, drinking coffee, and reading a book. In the evening, I went to the 6th floor for a workout and was pleasantly surprised by the hotel's lighting decor – it was really photogenic! I spent half an hour taking pictures and picked one I liked to show off.

The Grand Hyatt Kunming is a five-star hotel that opened last year in Kunming. It was meant to be the newest five-star hotel, but with the opening of the Shangri-La this year, it no longer holds that title. The hotel is located near Dongfeng Square, and the building itself is very tall. If you drive up, you'll see a fountain at the entrance, but it's not a traditional one; instead, it's one of those modern ground-level types where water jets out from various points. Entering through the main door, you're greeted by the hotel's iconic sight: a grand, high arched design. Above it, there's a crossbeam with a jade slab on one side and a sculpture on the other. The entire design is very impressive and makes for a great photo opportunity. Continuing inside, you arrive at the hotel reception, which also serves as the check-in desk. A distinctive feature is the chandelier behind the reception desk; from a distance, it looks like calligraphy brushes hanging on a rack, a thoughtful touch. On the other side, there are two sets of sofas, and behind the set at the far end, there's an interesting decoration that appears to be made from a carpet-like material. Between the reception area and the elevators, there's a hallway. It's clad entirely in dark wood, creating a profound and luxurious feel. At the end, a large marble slab serves as decoration, contributing to the overall sophisticated atmosphere. Taking the elevator up to the room, I noticed that each elevator lobby is adorned with small podocarpus trees, which is a charming and ingenious detail. Today, I'm staying in a junior suite. Upon entering, the first thing you see is a small antechamber. By the window in this area, there's a sofa paired with a round table and an armchair. Welcome fruits and snacks were already laid out on the table; the snacks were fried potato chips and cashews, and the fruits were very fresh. As they are local Yunnan produce, they tasted excellent. Moving into the bedroom, the design is very well-balanced and stable. In the center is a double bed, facing a television. Behind the bed is a floor-to-ceiling glass window, offering views of the adjacent garden and some stone houses. To the side, there's a door that opens into the bathroom. The bathroom features a large washbasin, with a shower on one side and the toilet on the other. The entire space is very generous, making for a comfortable shower experience. Besides the room, I also checked out the hotel's public areas. First, the swimming pool. It's a long, rectangular pool with plenty of natural light streaming in from the side. Interestingly, there are several rooms that connect to both the swimming pool and the spa. There's also a gym. Overall, the public facilities are quite comprehensive. Breakfast is served on the fifth floor in a buffet style, offering a wide variety of food. Generally speaking, apart from the more distant InterContinental, the Grand Hyatt is a very good five-star hotel in Kunming. The newly opened Shangri-La this year has roughly doubled its prices. If you're looking for a newer five-star hotel with better value for money, the Grand Hyatt remains an excellent choice.

The hotel is conveniently located near the main road, and the front desk is on Level 2. Just like many other hotels in China, they allow early check-in, which is one of my favorite things 😊. However, if you plan to visit Nanping Street, you'll need to book a Didi, as it is not within walking distance.

This hotel truly lives up to its reputation as a must-stay in Kunming for 2026; the experience was excellent. The hotel is located within a park, and you'll need their shuttle bus to get inside. If you walk, it's about a 5-minute stroll – not too long, not too short. On the first floor, there's a restaurant that serves breakfast, Western lunch, and transforms into a bar in the evening. They also offer complimentary late-night snacks, including sweet and savory congee. I highly recommend booking a room with breakfast included; it was the most extensive breakfast I had during my entire Yunnan trip. There was a wide variety of options, including freshly made rice noodles, Western pastries, Chinese dim sum, fruits, coffee, milk, yogurt, and even soda. Just past the restaurant, there's a small gym with dumbbells and a compact power rack, which is generally sufficient for a good workout. It's quite convenient for guests who want to stay active. Further inside, you'll find the linen room and laundry room, equipped with two washing machines and two dryers. The room itself was quite spacious, and the furnishings were relatively new and clean, providing a very pleasant experience. The only minor drawback is the limited desk space, which can make it a bit cluttered if you have a lot of items, making them less convenient to access. On the bright side, the Wi-Fi speed in the room was excellent, with no noticeable lag or buffering. The hotel also maintains strict control over external visitors. You need your room card to access your floor in the elevator, and external guests are required to register, which is a good security measure. I didn't order any takeout myself, but I saw other reviews mentioning that deliveries can be brought up to the room, striking a good balance between safety and convenience. On the day I checked out, the staff kindly helped me take my luggage to the park entrance, which saved me a lot of time. I'm very grateful for their assistance.

The hotel facilities are relatively new and well-maintained. The amenities are also of excellent quality, and there's an endless supply of water, along with local Yunnan specialties like flower cakes and tamarind juice, which was a very nice touch. The front desk staff were attentive and genuinely considerate, proactively assisting with luggage storage and retrieval. They even offered a complimentary room upgrade, which was greatly appreciated. I must also mention the hotel's distinctive 'tile cat' key card. It's a shame that a physical version isn't available for purchase; I hope the hotel considers offering one in the future.

This hotel was the best one during our entire Yunnan trip. The room wasn't huge, but it was very well-designed and matched the price perfectly. One thing that was really important for me as a mom was that there was no carpet in the room. The staff were incredibly enthusiastic and responsible; you could tell they operate with high standards. The lifeguard was constantly patrolling around the pool, and the front desk staff were also very attentive. The gym's front desk person was responsible and proactive. After my 8-year-old son went for a swim, he went to the men's changing room by himself to shower. When I went to the front desk to ask, I realized the exit for the men's changing room wasn't in the direction we entered the pool area. I was a bit worried, and a staff member immediately went to find my son for me. When they saw me fumbling to help my son change, they quickly took his swimsuit to spin-dry it and pack it up for us. When we were leaving, the concierge, who was quite far away, actually jogged over to help us with our luggage.

Sometimes you have to wait 10 minutes for hot water to appear.. So if you hurry up - it’s not comfortable.. Firstly I even thought what this place don’t have hot water at all. + Near the subway station

This stay was great! Hotel location is very good, convenient to travel. The room was clean and tidy, the bedding was comfortable and the sleep was very solid. The front desk service was warm and thoughtful, and the response was very fast. Health is in place, the facilities are complete, and the price is very high. The overall stay is very comfortable, I will choose this next time I come, I recommend everyone to stay! There is a manager Li at the front desk who is very caring and the service is very good.

The location, service, and breakfast were all good. The front desk was very thoughtful and even gave us fruit and a toy for the child. The room type was a bit compact. I didn't quite understand the design where the toilet was directly connected to the room without any partition. Someone could be using the toilet right next to the sink. Both the shower and the toilet area really should have partitions. Also, for a Fairfield by Marriott hotel, the elevators are incredibly unreliable and disappointing. There are only two, and one is constantly out of order and takes forever to fix. Going up and down was a real pain.

My companions and I were all extremely satisfied with this stay. The 'posu bao' (flaky pastry bun) was a particular highlight, everyone raved about it! My colleague kept saying you provide 'angelic service.' I love every staff member here; they are attentive and thoughtful, and you can truly feel the genuine kindness radiating from them. Just now, the cleaning lady passed by and gave me an angelic smile, even though she could have easily ignored me while I was engrossed in my computer. This 'hidden gem in the city' that you meticulously maintain allowed us to feel incredibly relaxed. Whether it was the private hot spring, the calligraphy practice, or simply reading in the tearoom with the cat while listening to the rain, it all brought immense relaxation to our minds and bodies. Thank you for taking care of us these past few days. It was a truly wonderful experience, and we'll definitely be back! Service: 100%! Familial service; the staff here truly see every individual guest.
