"Another lovely stay. We stayed at the crown last year and returned last week . The hotel is very comfortable and we were offered a room on the first floor with less stairs as I have a painful knee which made climbing stairs difficult. The room was lovely, the staff and the owners were as helpful and charming as before and the breakfasts were fabulous. We will return and recommend it to others ."

"Excellent value for money, friendly and helpful staff. We booked a small double which was small but had everything we needed with nice thoughtful extras such as cotton wool pads and buds, a flask with fresh milk for tea and coffee provided. We requested an early dinner one night which was perfectly accommodated and the food was excellent. The menu was varied and interesting. We will definitely stay again, many thanks."

Luttrell Arms

📍 32-36 High St, Dunster
★★★ 8.9 (72 reviews)

"very disappointed experience and welcoming and poor quality. We visited on January the 3rd attracked by the charming look of the place from the outside. Unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. Despite being the first customers to arrive, we were treated like second-class guests. While other tables were carefully set with placemats and napkins, our cutlery was simply dropped in the middle of the table rolled in a paper napkin. No placemats were provided for us, even as we watched staff properly set the table next to us for later arrivals. The room was also incredibly cold. When we mentioned this to the staff, they dismissively told us the heating was " automatic" and did nothing to help. To make matters worse, the fish and chips we ordered were extremely greasy and inedible. It was a very upsetting and uncomfortable experience. We do not feel valued as customers at all."

The Crown Hotel ★★★
"Last night I had one of the best main courses I’ve had for years and we’ve lived in France for 6. It was Pan fried lamb rump with additions, gorgeous, the only problem is I can’t have it again for the first time. The Crown Inn is a very friendly warm traditional pub/restaurant in the middle of Exmoor and we have stayed there quite a number of times."

"The four of us came for a meal on Sunday evening.. we were blown away by the hospitality and the quality of the food! One of us had 3 allergies and they catered for it amazingly and were very knowledgeable about ceoliac disease. Absolutely 10/10 for service and food! Will definitely be back."

The Lorna Doone Hotel ★★★
"Another enjoyable evening meal at the Lorna Doone restaurant. I now always make sure to pre-book to avoid disappointment; it's easy enough to do. Staff are always welcoming and helpful and the little dining room is very cosy. This time I had a glass of delicious Merlot with the Cajun chicken, which was tasty and just at the perfect side of spicy for me. Previously I enjoyed the Lamb Three Ways and the slow cooked beef ribs. I didn't intend to have pudding, but opted again for the rhubarb & ginger affair... My companions also love the Lamb, but this time had the Saltimbocca, which they really enjoyed."

"Great food good service and friendly staff. I only stayed 1 night on a tour of Devon and Somerset. Creaky floor and bed but it just gave more atmosphere. Would have given 5* but bathroom ceiling needs attention and repainting. Also generator going meant a bit of noise. Under £100.00 for room 3 course dinner & breakfast."

Dunkery Beacon Country House ★★★★
"Well this accommodation did not disappoint. It was immaculately clean, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and the view was stunning. We were upgraded to one of the four poster rooms with a separate sitting room and it suited our needs well. The upgrade was volunteered by the proprietors and was not sought. What a delight it was though. The rooms were warm and there were spare blankets, bath robes and quality toiletries. I think whichever room we had would have been a very positive experience. Breakfast was wonderful, plenty of choice, fresh fruit juices, delightful coffee. The full English was very nicely cooked, as was the scrambled egg muffin we also tried. The proprietors were charming, parking and situation was idyllic. One of my favourites, a small thing but so welcome, was the availability of fresh milk in a fridge in reception. The beverages in the room were first class all round. I can highly recommend this for a stay and we hope to revisit in the future."

"We had booked for New Year's Eve dinner. First of all, we had to pay for the entire menu almost a month in advance. We had to choose what we wanted to eat 15 days in advance (from three options). We arrived at 8 o'clock as requested, and the waiter asked us what we would like to drink. I told him there was a welcome drink. He brought it to us reluctantly. Then everything happened very quickly. No sooner had we finished our meals than the next course was brought to us, until I asked to finish my wine calmly before dessert. The dance was in the country yard, where it was 3 degrees. Of course, no one was dancing, and to top it all off, the duck pâté wasn't fresh, which our stomachs certainly felt. In short, it was a ruined evening."
