Comfort Hotel Kii Tanabe
"Very close to the train station. Room is not big but is good for value. Breakfast is not bad"
KAMENOI HOTEL KUMANO TANABE
"Very satisfied!"
Hotel Kii Tanabe
"Was a good night trip overall- the hotel is newly refurbished so everything is new and had a good time! About 10mins walk to the station which is also easy."
Sansuikan Kawayu Midoriya
"The hotel is just a few steps from the bus station. It also provides shuttle service to drop the customers back to Kumano Kudo. Hence, it is a perfect place to get a good rest and onsen after a long walk. The hotel also serves free drink and snack in the afternoon in lobby area."
J-Hoppers Kumano Yunomine Guesthouse
"An amazing hostel - super clean, friendly staff, good facilities - and private onsens!"
SEN.RETREAT CHIKATSUYU
"We thought staying at Sen Retreat Takijiri was very good to start our Kumano Kodo journey. The Sen Retreat Chikatsuyu was even more impressive! The size of lodging with living room, the in unit washer and dryer, and prepared food and drink were superb! Especially, after a long journey in the mountain, the hot pot and cold beer were so comforting! We can see everything details has been taken care of. We strongly recommend our friends to stay at any Sen Retreat along Kumano Kodo hiking. We hope you continue to build up along the hiking route!"
Tanabe Station Hotel
"The hotel is for hiking, so as long as you can sleep well, that's fine. But I have to say that this air conditioner is blowing towards the bedside, which is not very user-friendly."
SEN.RETREAT HONGU - Kumano Kodo Gateway
Kawayu Onsen Fujiya
"Lovely onsen , dinner & breakfast . That’s an opposite river bath. Very convenient."

Mirai Noen
"This was a long time ago, but... it was the worst lodging I've ever stayed at in my life. There was no hygiene at all. I hope they improve it for future guests. There is a separate accommodation building, the master's house, and a detached room. Opposite the main house is a detached room! It feels like a storage shed💦 The entrance is through the farmhouse storehouse. There was food left over from the previous guest, even in the fridge! 20,000 yen a night (New Year's rate) is just too bad! The room in the main house may be comfortable, but the detached room is definitely not worth the fee. I was dying to go home..."
Nouka Minpaku Mirainouen
"The room was very clean. The landlady was kind and could communicate in Chinese using a translation software. I ordered her breakfast for 800 yen and it was very comfortable. I didn’t know what to choose from the meal. I just ate what she made and I was very satisfied. This B&B can pick you up from the station. I don’t speak Japanese, so I can only walk there. When I left, she drove me to the station. I liked it very much! The bus runs twice a day, and it’s difficult to take a taxi. The pick-up and drop-off is very pleasant."
Ashita No Mori
"I am very satisfied. The bus stop is 40 meters from the door and opposite is Sennin Hot Spring. I stayed for two days, one day for indoor bathing and one day for outdoor hot spring bathing. It was sunny one day and snowed one day. The scenery was everywhere."
Kumano Ayukawa-juku
"This room was my only option after the hotel I had booked failed to confirm my reservation the day before my departure, and it became the perfect start to my journey of exploring all the side trails of the Kumano Kodo Trail. Upon exiting the station, I met Mr. Ota (60 years old), who was there to pick me up. After a brief chat, he gave me a booklet that could only be purchased at the Kumano Kodo Center, and it already contained the stamp for the furthest point on the outer edge of the trail. Today's task in the beginner's area was for an NPC to help me collect the other two stamps, and he also gave me a two-hour hike on the mountain trails as a warm-up for tomorrow's trip. Mr. Ota was very helpful and didn't charge me any extra fees. There was a Lawson convenience store a 3-minute walk from his house, where I bought a lot of supplies and dinner. To my surprise, my room was already overflowing with free-flowing drinks. The room was on the second floor and had a toilet, but you had to go downstairs to shower and do laundry. The room was huge, even bigger than my home in Kyoto, and the balcony offered a perfect view of the valley sunset! The toilet was a bit dated but very clean, and the toilet paper was thick and fragrant! The bathroom and washbasin were fully stocked with toiletries—you didn't even need to open your toiletries bag! Mr. Ota, who had been busy all afternoon, only had instant noodles and meatballs for dinner, which made me feel a little bad. We chatted for a long time after dinner, and Mr. Ota turned out to be quite knowledgeable about China! If you have the chance to stay here, be sure to chat with him. Although it seems a bit far from the starting point, with the Lawson convenience store and Mr. Ota's warm hospitality, this is definitely a lucky starting point for the Kumano Kodo! I highly recommend it!"
Sansuikan Kawayu Matsuya
"The hotel is old japanese style. There is the toilet but no area for showering. There is the new modern hotel near this hotel that have locker .I keep my luggage during the trail. I think they are the same owner."
Ryujin Onsen Marui Ryokan
"It was a very Japanese experience. The owner and staff were very nice and provided excellent service!"
Minshuku Adumayaso
"The meal included sweetfish, which was very delicious. I was surprised at how hot the bath water was, but it seems that it is affected by the temperature, so I think that this is something that only natural hot springs can provide."
Takiyoshi
" This modern guesthouse had it's own onsen and a lift to rooms on the higher floors. Our spacious room was traditional Japanese. There are no ensuite facilities, the toilets in Japan are exceptionally clean, and the shared basin area was always available when needed. We slept well. The property has its own Onsen, which was very welcome after a day of hiking, as was their icy cold beer. The Youmine ancient onsen, the oldest hot spring in Japan, is across the road. Our evening meal and breakfast were fresh and delicious japanese food served in the dining room. Our host's English was limited, but with the help of Google translator, they went out of their way to help us explore wet weather options if needed. Our forwarded luggage had a handwritten note thanking us for our stay. We would definitely stay at Takiyoshi again if we return to Tanabe. "
Shimogoten
"Escape the ordinary and discover an unforgettable, authentic Japanese onsen experience at this hidden gem, far from the typical tourist trail! Tucked away in a serene, off-the-beaten-path location, this traditional onsen is a rare find for travelers seeking something truly special. My wife, two young kids, and I were blown away by the tranquil, rejuvenating atmosphere during our stay. The owner’s wife, with her excellent English, went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcomed, treating us like cherished guests in their own home. The warm, attentive staff made every moment feel personal and heartfelt. This is not your standard Japanese tourist stop—it’s a cultural treasure for those craving an authentic, soul-soothing retreat. A word of advice for drivers: triple-check the address and stick to main roads to avoid any navigation hiccups. You’ll thank me later! Come for a unique, immersive experience that will leave you refreshed and inspired."
Hotel Nankairo
"It was very nice because it was near the station and it was beautiful ☺️"
Kirari-Ryujin
"How can I put it? This is the first time I'm reluctant to give this hotel a 5 out of 5 rating. The hot springs were wonderful, leaving you feeling smooth and slippery. A hot spring hotel in a remote mountain area is definitely inconvenient without a car. I came here for the hot springs and had originally booked Shimogoten, but that hotel couldn't check in after 7 PM, so I had to switch to this one based on the great reviews. Most of the people who came to bathe were elderly Japanese, some almost 100 years old, and their gait was unsteady. Mainland Chinese were rare. 1. The breakfast and dinner were mediocre, with almost nothing to eat. 2. The hotel amenities were mediocre; there wasn't even a comb in the room. 3. Sleeping alone at night was terrifying. Communicating with my companions felt a bit strange, like imagining scenes from a Japanese horror movie. 4. The service was mediocre. I tried to book a room for my companions, but the mountain path was too difficult, so they didn't want to go down the mountain and stay at the other hotel they'd booked. The price we asked Ctrip for was completely different from the price quoted by the front desk. The front desk staff didn't speak English and was very indifferent, completely unable to understand what we were saying. They refused to give us the price we asked for, playing dumb. I'd like to give negative points for this."
Watarase Onsen Hotel Sasayuri
"Very new, very good, great"
Yunominesou
"Very oold.school hotel but really appreciate the hotel service. The staff is so nice and the good the great."
Onsen Minshuku Omuraya
"When there is no choice, I just make do with it. The dinner is quite sumptuous and the breakfast is a bit too much. 😆The surrounding environment of the hotel is good and there are open-air hot springs where you can soak."
Ryokan Sakai
"The accommodation fee was expressed as 、 confusing. ¥ 9,800 〜 Discount if you pay in cash on site. It was different when I went to the site."
