Quinta do Caminho, Al

Quinta do Caminho, Al

📍 Caminho de Santiago 2417, Cerdal
★★★ 8.6 (46 reviews)

"The location is convenient on the pilgrimage, but the service attitude is very general, even some disgusting work attitude, rush to close the work, the room hygiene is not very good, there is hair found in the cup, the senses are very poor!"

Pousada de Valença

Pousada de Valença

📍 Baluarte do Socorro, Valenca
★★★★ 8.0 (20 reviews)

"A special stay inside the Valença fortress. We really enjoyed our stay at the Pousada de Valença. It has a classic, welcoming feel — more like a family-run inn than a hotel. The staff were kind and attentive, and made everything easy for us. Our room was spacious and very comfortable, with beautiful views across the hills and the Minho River into Spain. Getting a room with a balcony and view is definitely worth it. The setting inside the walled fortress is one of a kind — quiet, historic, and full of charm. We’d happily stay again."

Hotel Lara

Hotel Lara

📍 Av. Bombeiros Voluntarios, Valenca
★★★ 8.1 (28 reviews)

"Stayed here for several nights and found the rooms adequate with a comfortable bed and place to sit. It is located just outside the old town and is an easy walk from both the bus and train station. It is also near a good supermarket and there are several restaurants nearby. Breakfast was adequate, although there was no plain yoghurt on the last day and the hot selection was not in Bain Marie's so went cold quickly (the bacon and scrambled eggs were nice). Rooms could be improved with a small fridge and kettle and I don't like this habit in Portugal of providing paper cups individually wrapped in plastic. It was good to see that they didn't provide bottled water (the tap water is perfectly fine to drink or, if you must, but your own). Staff were not overly friendly, especially the older male on reception. That said, would I stay there again, yes as it was good value for money (I booked direct, which is unusual for me) as the price was much better."

Residencial S. Gião ★★★
"Nobody talks to you about the discotheque that is below the residence, the bed is shaking with music until 4 a.m. Unable to sleep. Car races outside. Horrible, I'm about to leave the room at 2 a.m. and go"

Pousada de Valença ★★★★
"On arrival we discovered this pousada is a franchise and not fully part of the Pestana group. So, no Pestana points for a stay here. Hadn’t noticed that explained anywhere on the Pestana website. The location within the old fort is unbeatable with some rooms having views across the river to Tui in Spain. Our superior room with balcony was spacious and well decorated. Bed and bedding were both good. Bathroom was clean and spacious although it’s the only Pousada we’ve stayed at with a plastic shower curtain rather than glass screen. Also only soap, no body lotion or other toiletries provided, no bathrobes etc. Breakfast had considerably fewer options than other Pousadas and no staff regularly monitoring and topping up but there were very few staff and few guests. Reception and other staff were all friendly and helpful. The hotel is apparently in a transition phase so the bar and restaurant were also closed on some days. If these things are important to you, check before booking. Overall, the hotel seemed comparatively overpriced and very understaffed. Not a special stay"

Hotel Lara ★★★
"We checked into Hotel Lara after our 4th day of walking the Camino. We had experienced outstanding accommodation along the way with well trained staff. At Hotel Lara we were met (not welcomed) by an older male receptionist who seemed quite dismissive. The hotel is outdated and in need of a good clean and refurbishment. We were allocated a room on the first floor which was facing a busy main road. The room was spartan to say the least. No fresh/bottled water, fridge, tea/coffee facilities and two cheap plastic wrapped paper cups in the bathroom. The bed however, was comfortable and the breakfast room had a good selection food. We were not acknowledged or welcomed by the staff serving breakfast. This hotel is situated in the downtown area of Valença. If staying Valenca, search for accommodation in the old town or even Tui, which is approximately 1km down the road. We don’t recommend this establishment ."
