▲ The Jinsha River flows southward, running parallel to the Lancang and Nu rivers, until it makes a dramatic turn eastward at the "First Bend of the Yangtze River" in Lijiang's Shigu Town. Cutting between the Yulong Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain, it carves out one of the world's deepest canyons—Tiger Leaping Gorge. Tiger Leaping Gorge brings together snow-capped mountains, deep canyons, and rushing rivers, forming a core part of Yunnan's "Western Shangri-La Eco-Tourism Zone" and the heart of the Three Parallel Rivers Natural Heritage Site. The attraction features breathtaking views of towering peaks, dramatic gorges, winding waterways, and terraced mineral springs.

▲ Before the Yuan Dynasty, Tiger Leaping Gorge was called Yuemiegen Pass. During the Yuan Dynasty, it was known as Xueshanmen Pass, in the Ming and Qing Dynasties as Hutiao Jian (Tiger Leaping Stream), and during the Republic of China era as Hutiao Tan (Tiger Leaping Shoal). It earned its current name because the narrowest section is so tight that a tiger could leap across it. In 1958, when the People's Commune was established, it was officially renamed Tiger Leaping Gorge, a name that has been used ever since. The attraction opened to the public in 1992.
