Between 676 and 679 AD, the Tubo Kingdom established an official stronghold here, naming it "Dukezong," which means "Moonlight City." The town's layout resembles an eight-petal lotus flower, with the Moonlight Square at its center surrounded by ancient Tibetan-style architecture, showcasing unique Tibetan culture and historical heritage!

▲ The Giant Prayer Wheel is a large religious facility located on the hillside of Dukezong Ancient Town's Great Buddha Temple in Shangri-La City, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, at an altitude of 3,300 meters. It has been recorded in the Guinness World Records. Standing 21 meters tall with a total weight of 60 tons, the prayer wheel features a gilded pure copper body and a large-diameter canopy at its top. Inside, it contains 16 tons of Buddhist treasures including scriptures, mantras, and 1.24 million copies of the Six-Syllable Mantra. The wheel's base uses ball bearings, and its outer rim has a stainless steel ring with attached cloth straps for multiple people to pull and rotate it, typically requiring the combined effort of four to five people!

▲ The Yila Grassland is located 6 km northwest of Shangri-La City, covering a total area of 13 square kilometers. It is the largest grassland in Diqing Shangri-La. "Yila" means "Leopard Mountain" in Tibetan, named after the legendary "sacred mountain" of Leopard Mountain situated at the northern entrance of the grassland. The Yila Grassland resembles a rippling ocean, dotted with countless flowers—wild peonies in rose-red, wild chrysanthemums, and various other fragrant blooms and grasses. Together with the picturesque Napahai Lake and the beautiful ancient Yila Village, it forms a breathtaking landscape!

▲ The grand prayer flags of Shangri-La, with their vibrant colors and profound religious cultural significance, serve as an important symbol of Tibetan culture. Appearance Characteristics of the Grand Prayer Flags The grand prayer flags are typically made from five-colored fabrics: blue, white, red, green, and yellow. These colors symbolize the sky, clouds, fire, rivers, and earth, arranged in a specific order to represent the Five Dhyani Buddhas and the Five Wisdoms in Tibetan Buddhism. The flags are printed with Buddhist scriptures, mantras, and various auspicious patterns, carrying the prayers and blessings of devotees!

Historical Background The full name of Songzanlin Monastery is "Ganden Sumtseling Monastery." It was founded in 1679, with the Fifth Dalai Lama, Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso, personally selecting the site and bestowing its name. The construction of the monastery received support from the local Yunnan government at the time, aiming to promote the teachings of the Gelug (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Completed in 1681, the monastery was officially sanctioned by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, marking a new height in the spread of the Gelug sect in northwestern Yunnan! (Packages A and B do not include Songzanlin Monastery)
