Fogcatcher Inn

Moonstone Beach in Cambria is a beautiful place to stay! There are a number of hotels along the coastline here to choose from. I cannot recommend the Fogcatcher Inn. We stayed here in September 2022. Reception at the front desk was friendly but not well informed about some advertised amenities. We had upgraded our room to “ocean view” via an email invitation from the hotel but there was no record of that when we checked in. Also, we were told that since they have no food service there, we could order from a nearby food service with a provided menu. The restaurant was closed the day we were there though, so that was not helpful. Twice we went to the office for assistance and no one was there to respond. Pros- *Great location on beautiful Moonstone Beach. Wonderful shoreline walking path right across the street. *Spacious rooms with high ceilings. *Fireplaces in rooms *Bathroom was recently renovated and in good shape. Cons- *The hotel is rundown and worn. Our room was also very worn out. *Overwhelming odor in rooms of musty mold and mildew. We had to keep the windows open all the time, just to get some fresh air. They probably need to remove the old carpeting in the rooms to remedy this issue. *No air conditioning- probably not needed most of the year. *Uncomfortable beds. Bedding was old and musty smelling. *Chairs in room were worn and threadbare in places. *Nightstand clock didn’t work. Few outlets for plugging in to charge phones, etc. *Room was sp****ly decorated. Very little effort was put in to make room look inviting. * Window blinds/shades were hard to raise and lower and not in good repair. We were very excited to come stay at Moonstone Beach but were disappointed in the conditions at the Fogcatcher Inn. I realize that everyplace has suffered because of closures during the Covid quarantine but the value here for the expensive price was not acceptable.

My wife and I stayed here recently while visiting family in the area. She rates it as 'excellent' overall where I would probably go with a 'very good'. One thing that we didn't like is that their website does not provide enough detail regarding the location of the rooms they offer. Thus when we arrived we found out that my wife, who has enormous difficulty climbing stairs, had to climb a very long flight of stairs to get to our room. I also had to lug our luggage up/down those same stairs. There is no elevator and there was no offer to assist with our luggage by staff. I had called the property ahead to ask questions however, I never got anyone to answer and by the time an employee had called me back it was too late to do anything about getting more details regarding room location, etc. There is ample off-street and street parking in the area and the staff were responsive to requests for additional amenities like toilet paper, soap, pillows, etc. They also offer a complimentary happy hour for guests from 5 - 7 PM every evening where you can get up to two cocktails and some basic finger food. If you are a light sleeper, it can be difficult to sleep as anyone walking in the halls can be heard through the doors and due to the squeaky floors. The pillows they provide were also very poor as they provided no support at all. Overall, if you like to stay in historic properties this place is probably for you. However, I highly recommend making inquiries in advance to ensure you get a room that will meet you needs.

The property is very well maintained. Landscaping is 5 stars. The 2 firepits are nice. Not big, but for enough for like 4 people. Had a double queen room that was clean, and nicely decorated. People at front desk were nice. Some friendlier than others. The beds were on the ”SOFT” side. No firmness in these, which was disappointing ... but my back did ok. Things that need some improvement. COFFEE: the in-room units I always dislike because they are rarely very clean or the coffee very good, and they are messy to use. So they had coffee carafes in the office. But it was usually ”warm”, if there was coffee there. Many times it was empty. The DECAF carafe was ”broken” so the coffee was difficult to get out and it always deposited lots of grounds in the cup. Yuk. They said a new one is on order. hmmm. Seems like they should always have a spare one of these on hand. e.g. always ”be prepared” The pool area needs some TLC and some sprucing up. Not very inviting, The Hot Tub was warmish water. Housecleaning,. They don't do any once you are there. You can ask for new towels at the office. you pick it up. You have to put your own trash cans outside your room and hope they get to emptying them. And cups or glasses you dirty, same thing. Either clean it yourself or put outside and hope they leave you new ones, Or you need to go to office and get what you need. We were there more than 2 nights and usually at INNS, after 2 nights you get a cleaning, but not here. Just felt there should have been a bit more ”service” for the cost of these rooms. And COFFEE ... that is a biggy. It should be HOT, plentiful.

Cambria Pines Lodge

The hotel environment is good, the price difference is big, the booking is good at low prices. There is no microwave in the room, which is not convenient. Good health, convenient parking, overall worth staying
Cambria Palms Motel
3.9/598 Reviews
Filthy, super low budget at expensive rates, The room was dirty. I had to towel mop the floor I got a piece of glass in my toe. The towels were gray not white they were rough. The reading light had large amount dust the headboard had a grease head mark on it. The bathroom was horrible. The toilet was so close to the bath tub you could barely use it the bathroom light was rusted mattress squeaked all night. And the 3 original pillows provided were flat and no good. The grounds are a mess. Be careful where you walk you might fall. They had old trashed furniture towards the backyard near the horrible overgrown fire pit I asked for a additional pillow. The clerk did not want to give me one. But finally did under protest All I can say is this is the worst place I have ever stayed at. Please don’t make the mistake I made. Do not book at this dump Showing in the pics the gray dirty towel I had to use to mop the floor Others are of the horrible bathroom. And one of the dust covered reading light!
The Squibb Houses

11-16-19 I booked on line so I really didn’t know what to expect but it was a very nice experience. We stayed in the main Squibb house that had about 3 rooms on the ground floor. We stayed upstairs in the Gothic room and really don’t know why it has that name but very comfortable. It was a small but efficient room. No TV or fridge in the room but we hardly ever turn on the TV and we sat our sodas out on the roof to keep cool so it was all good. The breakfast was served in the back-Barn And was great - we had scrambled eggs, toast, jelly, sausage, French toast, hot syrup, fresh fruit salad, coffee, OJ, hot tea, The breakfast area and sitting room was so inviting. We are planning on returning.

Good environment, good service, very special hotel
Cambria Landing Inn and Suites
4.1/594 Reviews
The hotel is close to the sea, the courtyard is actually a little open space at the entrance, there are many hotels around, the so-called suite is just a big room, this hotel is not cost-effective, parking is convenient.
El Colibri Hotel & Spa
4.3/5100 Reviews
Booked an overnight stay directly on website. Hotel had cyber sale on rooms. Free parking in underground garage. Room was clean. Bed was very comfortable. Fireplace was on all night. Jetted tub was a plus. Had an issue that was easily taken care of by hotel maintenance. Helpful staff. Location was perfect if you want to relax and enjoy nature and the ocean. Wooded area meets sea cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Bicycles are available. Walking distance to town but suggest parking in town and browse the shops/restaurants. Overall good experience and would stay here again.
