"We stayed in the Plantation Lodge last week, as we were attending a wedding in Cabra Castle. Kathleen was the perfect host, so nice and down to earth person. It was as if we knew her all our lives. Bed so comfy, breakfast was fab, the full irish of course. And she dropped us back to the hotel for our car. She has absolutely fabulous dogs , they are so cute. Kathleen made sure our stay was perfect, which it was. I would highly recommend Plantation Lodge, its like home from home."

"Can’t fault the hotel rooms were amazing and spacious very up to date and very affordable, The hotel restaurant …… food was very disappointing! Service was worse ! 4 plates of food sent back to the kitchen And served back to the table , food was still the same …. Cold and not edible ….!! The manager Gary ….. walking around on the phone ignoring customers ! Saw us walking in and ignored us , forgot some of the orders , had to ask multiple times for drinks he forgot and still managed to forget the orders ……. The only highlight of the night was a server named Ciara , very polite and knowledgeable about the menu and the drinks menu ….very attentive !! Ciara is an incredible addition to the staff and a credit to castle varagh"

"Spotless stay with a lovely breakfast and friendly atmosphere. I stayed here for one night with my girlfriend while attending a 21st birthday in Carrickmacross (about 15 mins away). It’s also a perfect location if you’re going to a wedding at Cabra Castle. We had a double and a single bed. The room was spotlessly clean and very practical with a Smart TV, hairdryer, and even phone chargers provided. Excellent continental breakfast included in the price. There was fresh brown bread, Activia yogurts, granola, and plenty of fresh fruit like berries and grapes. You can pay €10 for a full Irish, but the continental was more than enough. The hosts are very welcoming, and as an animal lover, the friendly dogs and cats on-site were a highlight. Free chocolates in the lobby and a late 11:30am checkout were great touches. The only downside is that we couldn’t get a drink of water when we got back late from the party because the kitchen door was locked. Also, the style is a bit old-fashioned, but it’s so clean and quiet that it didn't really matter. Overall, it’s a very fair price for a peaceful night's sleep in a nice country setting. Highly recommend if you need a base for a local event!"

"Myself, my pregnant wife and my 2 very young daughters arrived at 4:50pm for dinner in which the waitress had advised us that we couldn't order food until 5pm as the carvery had just finished, we were ok with this as it was only 10 minutes and by the time we looked at the menu and ordered drinks it was time to order. Time went by and we noticed more customers coming in, ordering, being served food and leaving. In particular one couple sitting beside us ordered 20 minutes after us and was finished before we even got our food. I had informed a member of staff that we had been waiting quite awhile for our food while everyone else had come in and finished their food. No member of staff had come down to say our food was delayed or any apology what so ever, The girl who took our order made it her business to avoid us after i had asked the member of staff about the delay. It came to a stage where the table beside us even questioned were we being looked after. It came to 6pm and we were just getting ready to leave as we had 2 very hungry young girls and the food arrived. Although its not nice to have to wait an hour for food it would of been nice if somebody would have come down and explained the situation or even apologised. We were not once approached during or after our meal to see was all ok, it was like we were being avoided incase we gave out. What looked like 2 managers that were on duty didnt even acknowledge what had happened. As a local family who enjoyed eating there from time to time, we most definitely will not be returning"

"Our 1st time staying here. Reception area not at all welcoming. All sofas and particularly the black and white striped armchairs very grubby and just wouldn’t sit on them Room basic but very clean Needed to get more pillows ( not a problem following a phone with the lovely receptionist on duty and indeed the household staff) Mattress on the bed not the most comfortable . We had a beautiful treatment each in the spa, lovely area and great pool and gym facilities. Dined in the Bistro, exceptionally great value for money and fantastic food, only issue we had ( had reserved table on line) was there were 4 waitresses at the check in who proceeded to carry on having third own personal conversation in front of us until I asked politely could we be taken to our table. To be honest the only real employee who was doing her job above and beyond was the restaurant manager"
