"Choosing Sansuimoku for my first onsen ryokan experience was absolutely the right decision. The unagi don (eel rice bowl) was delicious, and the Japanese-style room felt like it came straight out of an anime. We picked room 303, which had a private onsen, and it was truly amazing, though the room did have a slight sulfur smell. The onsen water at Sansuimoku was fantastic; my skin felt incredibly smooth after soaking. The private onsen in the room was quite hot, so I had to add some cold water to enjoy it. The outdoor women's bath offered a beautiful view, with a waterfall and a babbling brook, creating a very serene atmosphere. The next day, I visited the onsen town, but I still preferred Sansuimoku. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling by car."

"This was my favorite area from this trip. As soon as you get off the express bus and walk down a bit, this is the first accommodation you see. Although there are separate main and annex buildings, I was able to enjoy the main building's hot spring once with a ticket, so I went there in the morning. The service was excellent, and the staff were all very kind, which made me feel great. The main building felt more like a hotel, while the annex had a stronger ryokan (Japanese inn) feel. The front desk and the multi-bath in the annex were clean and nice, but the room itself had a strong smell of rotting wood? I couldn't quite place the smell. Nevertheless, the trip itself was so satisfying that it overshadowed this minor issue. Most shops in the village seemed to close by 5 PM, and it was very quiet and dark. There's one small convenience store nearby that closes at 10 PM, so if you're planning a trip here, I recommend finishing your day early."

"This hotel is right in the heart of town, with the famous cream puff shop directly outside. The intersection always has people sitting and enjoying sweets. The town is very tourist-friendly, with many benches along the road to rest your feet. There are even dedicated pavilions and foot baths for visitors to relax in. The private onsen on the upper floor is fantastic, with several facing a bamboo forest, which is incredibly relaxing. There's also a standing bath, with steps leading down, which is quite interesting. To get to the hotel's public male and female baths, you cross a small bridge within the hotel. Below the bridge is a stream, and sitting on the bamboo chairs on the bridge offers a unique view. However, the female private onsen requires climbing many steps, which is a bit inconvenient when wearing slippers. Dinner was served in the room, but the disposable chopsticks and wet wipes detracted from the experience."

"The hotel is obe of the biggest in the area. We were fetched by the hotel’s van bexause it was raining. But it is walkable from the bus stop. There is free coffee and snacks in the lobby area. And also free beer in the bar. The onsens are very big and clean. Both public and private ones are super nice and clean. The private onsen did not have towels so make sure to bring your own. Rooms are big and clean with the view of the creek or river. Staffs are nice and approachable"

"Fantastic atmosphere! The hotel is very close to the main attractions in Kurokawa Onsen. The rooms themselves are quite spacious and come with air conditioning (heater). When we realized we didn't have a 100V adapter, the staff quickly found us a charging station with USB output. The hotel has 6 private onsen rooms available on a first-come, first-served basis. There's a separate app on the TV to track their availability. In mid-March, there was enough availability for everyone. But if you don't want to wait, you can always go to the shared men's/women's onsen. I really liked that you're not allowed to wear shoes inside the ryokan (the residential area); you have to leave them until check-out and receive slippers to wear around the premises. Oh, and I almost forgot – there's a lady at the front desk who speaks excellent English, big thanks to her for explaining the main rules!"

"Although the location is a bit far, the environment is first-class. Comfortable. The receptionist was also very polite and communication in English was not a problem. Breakfast and dinner are also excellent. I hope to go again."

"I finally realized my long-held dream of staying here, having booked the room over half a year in advance. Its location is indeed quite remote, nestled deep in the mountains. Upon arrival, a car picked us up directly from the hot spring bus stop, and the elderly driver was incredibly warm and friendly! The heavy rain on the day of our visit truly enhanced the ambiance. The room itself was incredibly spacious. Surprisingly, even in June and with the rain, it got so cold at night that we needed to turn on the air conditioning. The cuisine was also quite sophisticated. Dinner was exquisite, though the portions were a bit on the small side, leaving me not quite full... The private six-foot outdoor bath was absolutely unforgettable – a definite must-book! If I had to nitpick, for a price tag exceeding 3000 (currency unspecified), I expected the service to be a touch more enthusiastic and friendly. I couldn't shake the feeling of being treated slightly differently (compared to what I observed for local Japanese guests and Westerners). Having stayed at no fewer than 10-20 hot spring ryokans in this price range, I'd say claims of 'superb service' are a bit of an overstatement. Overall, I'd give it an 80/100, and despite the minor points, I still highly recommend it!"

"Pros- spacious villa, quality bedding and large private indoor onsen( see picture 13). We also like the public outdoor onsen in the sister ryokan nearby. There is a little cafe there you can buy drinks and coffee, run by an adorable old couple, very nice and polite. We spent a lot of time there just chilling and listening to the music. Cons- Living room: we were only able to book the western style villa as it’s a little last minute trip. The living room is basic, bland, with sofa, instead or tatami. Our room 512 is next to the car park. Parking lot in front of your main door is not very pleasant. Food : just soso. Nothing extraordinary. See picture. No horse sashimi, the presentation of the steak is really ordinary - disappointing. Perhaps because we had such an amazing meals in the previous ryokan this became a massive letdown. Dinner served in a large public dining room, lack of the privacy and intimacy ther ryokan provide ( we had private dining room in another ryokan 野之花during this trip). I got to see other couples but also feeling like we are being watched. Service- served by young people, not much attentiveness you would expect in traditional ryokan, lack of the warmth and ritual. Reception- 3 star at best. A basic room with uncomfortable chair while you wait to be checked in. We arrived around 2:30pm, and was told that check in can only start at 3pm, and please wait. So we sat at the hard chair and forced to watch the promotional video until 3pm. Conclusion - 3.5 star ryokan, not the most exciting or exclusive villa we have stayed. Maybe it would get better once the trees grow thicker and staff better trained. The sister Ryokan nearby has better feel of environment and feels more established."

"Very good service from first step into Hotel! The staff are very friendly and explain all the details for our stay. The onsen outdoor is the best. Japanese style food set is amazing! Room also very comfortable, clean and nice as we booked semi-Japanese Western style. We love everything we have had experince here. Kurokawa onsen in winter time is highly recommended."
