General Map of Europe

Europe Travel Map

Credit: https://x.com/ | Cartoon Map of Europe

Before you head to Europe, capture a general view of Europe. Europe is a continent in the northern Hemisphere (in the upper half of the world, summer is June–August).

You can see clearly from the map that it is surrounded by the Arctic Ocean in the north, the Atlantic Ocean in the west, and the Mediterranean Sea in the south. And it connects Asia in the east, and most people call it Eurasia.

How Many Countries in Europe?

Europe has about 44 countries. The whole continent is large. So, try to find useful information in the following table, which will make your travel here more doable.

By Regions

Popular Countries

Western Europe

United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, Germany, Belgium, etc.

Northern Europe

Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, etc.

Southern Europe

Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, etc.

Weather in Europe

Europe has diverse landscapes (mountains, rivers, plains, peninsulas, etc.), which make a huge difference among the countries, resulting in various climates. Getting aware of the weather conditions in Europe is good for you when hanging out.

  • Western Europe: always being mild but unsettled (frequent rain showers)
  • Northern Europe: cool and chilly
  • Southern Europe: warm & dry with soft coastal breezes
  • Eastern Europe: warm days but cooler nights (especially in mountainous areas)

New Requirements for Europe Travel

Except for preparing for traveling in Europe, like visa application, hotels & flights booking, and your travel plans, there’s another thing you may pay attention to for those visitors coming from visa-free countries.

In late 2026, you might have to apply for ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) to enter most countries in Europe. As a travel authorization, it’s used for enhancing security and reducing illegal stays. ETIAS lasts for 3 years or until your passport expires, so you don’t have to frequently apply for one.

I bought a discounted ticket online for 12:00 PM, about £13. We were let in around 11:50 AM. The wait to get on the Ferris wheel wasn't long, about 5-10 minutes, but remember to hold onto elderly people when entering, as the Ferris wheel won't stop for everyone. There are seats inside the Ferris wheel cabins, and you can move around and take photos freely, but the cabins smelled a bit unpleasant. The scenery outside was very nice, and the photos turned out great. We slowly completed a rotation and then got off. Photos of you and the Ferris wheel are available for purchase for a fee.

It was a valuable experience that allowed me to feel the history. It was very good. However, there are a lot of strange people around the Colosseum, so I think you should be careful.

When talking about Berlin, many people will think of the Berlin Wall, but when I was collecting information, I found that there is a Berlin Wall Memorial (Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer), and it is free to visit, so I decided to go and see it! Remember to do some research before you go!

My appointment time was a bit late, but the museum staff were very kind and let me in early to see the exhibition. The only regret was that I didn't get to see the sunflower artwork.

Best Days for Backpackers to Travel in Europe

Best Days for Backpackers to Travel in Europe: Istanbul, Turkey

Backpackers are looking for cheap, fun & crowd-free trips to Europe.

The popular time is never the best time for you. Go when it’s shoulder season: April – early June (sunny but not scorching) or September – October (summer crowds leave). Portugal, Greece, and Italy are some of the perfect choices!

During November – March (except December), you’ll find hotels at huge discounts and no lines at attractions. Better skip Scandinavian places (Norway or Sweden) for their cold weather (unless you want to enjoy a snow wonderland). In this case, Spain & Turkey (a country of stray cats!) are nice places to go.

Or some of you guys still want festival and busy vibes. You can start your visit in peak Summer (late June to August). Remember to book hotels at least 2-3 months in advance! Epic festivals like Sziget in Hungary (musical & cultural events) and La Tomatina in Spain (the biggest food fight in the world!) are both worth participating.

There are other events and activities you can take part in for sure. The advice mentioned above is just some of the unlimited fun.

The weather was miraculously perfect, making it an amazing experience! I don't know if it was a coincidence or if they did it on purpose, but they guided me to the same space as other Japanese people, so even though I was traveling alone, I was able to enjoy myself while chatting with someone.

The Duomo rooftop terrace is quite an experience for me. I sat and chilled at the roof terrace, trying to envision the people who had to work to put together this magnificent cathedral. The people who have passed through and left this beautiful structure. For me, it felt like a pilgrimage, and not just a bucket list item that I thought it was. I opted for 10 am admission and the line to get in was not bad at all. By the time I was done and I came out, the line to get into the Duomo was insane. So go early.

Belém Tower is one of Lisbon’s most iconic and historically important sites, deeply connected to Portugal’s Age of Discoveries. Even though the tower is currently covered with scaffolding, the area is still absolutely worth a visit. The riverside promenade nearby is perfect for a relaxed walk, with beautiful views of the Tagus River and a great Lisbon atmosphere. A place you shouldn’t skip when exploring the city.

We experienced a comfortable tour for 3 days on the beautiful island. We drove to a lot of scenery. It was very easy to rent a car or scooter. Then you can go anywhere more convenient. Finally It was very unforgettable journey ☺️
