"This Bastide and Hotel oozes charm. The views of the Dordogne River Valley are to die for and the staff was incredible attentive. Our room had a magnificent view of the river from the 3rd floor. The décor was classic French and the bathroom had been fully updated - awesome rain showerhead. There is no elevator but the property more than compensated. BTW - the chef doesn't have a Michelin star but is recognized as a leading French chef and it shows. Highly recommend this Hotel if you aren't married to large vanilla chains."

"A house converted from 4 townhouses into a unique place to stay, filled with antiques, paintings and an ambiance of by-gone days. You are at Logis de Domme. We’ve had no friendlier welcome. Helene et Francois were attentive, but discrete too. Happy to give advice about local restaurants and sight seeing. If you choose the breakfast option you may get pancakes and eggs cooked however you choose alongside an assortment of fresh bread, pastries and home made jam. I could work using the fast fibre Wifi. We had days in the wonderful Dorgogne countryside, and the confluence of the 2 rivers and the Valley of the Chateaux is remarkable. I loved seeing the hot air balloons above us. Dame Josephine Baker’s garden was a highlight, along with the Abbey of Coly-St-Armand which was curiously impressive in the middle of nowhere. I think ‘awesome’ is the word to describe our stay in this region. If you are looking for a place with individuality, thoughtful hosts, comfortable beds, delicious breakfast and historical places to visit then you will find it in this special place. The mist over the valley, melting into sunshine in the morning, and the sunset over the valley from the top of the village were special moments. Thank you Helene et Francois for a lovely mini-break. We hope to return in the spring to see those spring bulbs!"

"We came to Chateau de Maraval to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday in July and had a wonderful stay. The staff were so attentive and kind and really couldn’t do enough for us. The hotel’s linen and bedding were really high quality, the room was beautiful and the grounds were immaculate. Although there is no dinner option, the staff made a good recommendation for dinner and the platters served would be more than sufficient after a full lunch out. Breakfast was also very nice - at full occupancy, they may need to put more out on the buffet, but we had the luxury of a host who really worked his socks off to get us anything we could have wanted from the kitchen. We will be back!"

"Well equipped room. Un-pretentious wall art. Comfortable firm bed. The expresso machine was a nice touch. Small but excellent en suite. Friendly, efficient vibe with an eye for conservation. Eg: leave only used towels for collection. No-fuss, detached bicycle lock up was excellent. Would visit again."

"We stayed at Domaine de Rochebois. The hotel is a very good hotel. However, we found it more equivalent to an upscale British country house hotel than a real 5-star luxury hotel. The buildings and grounds of the property are beautiful. Do note that some of the parking lots are paved and some are unpaved. Park your car in the paved parking lots because the dirt parking lots can easily become muddy. Staff are hospitable and professional. The decor of public spaces is attractive. Rooms are comfortable and very clean. The mattress and bed linen were very high-end. In particular, the mattress was huge. A proper king-sized bed. Not two twin mattresses pushed together. At the same time, the room was missing things you expect in 2023. Especially at a 4-star or 5-star hotel: 1) No USB outlets. 2) Almost no accessible electrical outlets for charging devices. This is a real big deal. 3) No dental kit, mouthwash, shaving kit, etc. 4) No wine in the partially stocked mini-fridge. 5) No clock. 6) No printed hotel directory. 7) No umbrella in room. I would also note we did not receive a welcome letter or pre-arrival email. Housekeeping did an okay job but some things were not replaced with service. Some days I did not receive a full range of towels either. Additionally, part of room had an ugly 1980s drop-ceiling that you expect in an office building, not a 5-star hotel. The bathroom had a heated towel rack but the rack was broken and would not work. The weakest part of the hotel was the extremely limited food and beverage offering. There is one restaurant, Wedge. The dining room in the main building where breakfast is served should be a restaurant. Breakfast starts at 7 AM on weekdays and 8 AM on weekends. 8 AM is a little late if you have any morning activities planned. The buffet was extensive. Made to order eggs and omelets were very good. I didn't see any champagne offered with breakfast on the weekend. The lobby bar was mostly empty and didn't have food, not even appetizers. Dining at Wedge was disappointing. It is really a bar and casual restaurant for the golf course. It is located a short distance from the main building and guest rooms. The menu is limited and mostly meat. Pescatarians or vegetarians would have dietary issues here. After more than 2 nights you run out of options. The wine list was also limited. Staff were young and well-intended but most of them were not fluent in English. This was a little bit of an issue when ordering food or asking for full descriptions of the meal. Using Google Translate was necessary. The hotel really needs a better food and beverage offering. This is a particular problem because the nearby town of Vitrac is very small. There are basically no other options to eat unless you are comfortable driving unfamiliar countryside roads at night after drinking alcohol. All things considered, Domaine de Rochebois is a very good hotel. Within the category of country house hotels, I would rate it exc"
