Approaching through leafy pathways and lotus ponds, guests are welcomed into an oasis that feels far removed from the bustle of downtown Yangon. Rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, featuring polished teak floors, four-poster beds, and traditional Burmese textiles that reflect the building’s heritage. Balconies overlook either the lush gardens or the inviting fan-shaped swimming pool, creating a sense of calm retreat. The service is consistently warm, professional, and attentive without being intrusive, with staff eager to share local knowledge and assist with arrangements. Dining is a highlight. The open-air restaurant offers refined Burmese and international dishes, prepared with fresh ingredients and presented with flair. Breakfast under the wide verandas, with tropical birdsong in the background, is especially memorable. Afternoon cocktails by the pool or an evening meal by candlelight evoke the romantic grandeur of a bygone era. What sets the Governor’s Residence apart is its atmosphere: it is not simply a hotel but a living reminder of Yangon’s colonial past, reimagined with comfort and grace. First of all, I'd like to thank all the staff for their kindness. I was worried because it was an old building, but I had a very comfortable stay for two nights. The staff were always kind, attentive, and ready to help whenever I had questions about transportation or places to visit. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of options, and the view from the hotel was absolutely beautiful. I spent 7 days at this hotel. Here are the main pros and cons: Pros: — Breakfast included (buffet style). — Two bottles of water were provided daily. — A quiet and peaceful hotel. — Friendly and polite staff. Cons: — Shared shower (but this was stated upfront). — The breakfast was almost the same every day and not always replenished. It's best to go around 7:30–8:00 AM, otherwise, the food might run out. — The shared bathroom and toilet didn't look very clean. — The shower water was salty for some reason. Overall, it's a ”no-frills, get-the-job-done” type of place. For Myanmar, this is a perfectly decent budget option. You can comfortably stay for a few days.

The hostel is located in the old town, not far from the central train station. The lobby is on the first floor, and the rooms are on the second and third floors. Bed linens are changed after each guest. There's a table in the room, but the window is poorly maintained and can't be closed. A helpful young man at the front desk speaks some Chinese. The other staff only speak the local language, so communication was difficult. When I checked out, the front desk asked me to pay for the last night's stay, even though I had already paid. They said they hadn't received it, but thankfully the young man who speaks some Chinese came out and confirmed that I had paid in full.

Convenient location for getting around, with restaurants nearby at night. The breakfast was delicious, especially the Burmese tea. You can see city views from the upper floors.

I stayed for the second time, the room was very large and very close to the Shwedagon Pagoda, and I walked across the road. I eat a lot of barbecue kings at the door, a bit old, most of them are Japanese
