The Merchants House, BW Signature Collection

The Merchants House, BW Signature Collection

📍 29 Milford St, Salisbury
★★★★ 9.2 (51 reviews)

"The room we booked was converted from a mews, which was a completely new experience for us and quite surprising in an interesting way. Almost everything else was fantastic. The staff were extremely kind and friendly, and the breakfast was excellent — you really have to try the Indian spice omelette. They also serve coffee and tea to your table instead of self-service, which felt very decent and welcoming. The breakfast staff in particular were warm and attentive. However, because the room was converted from a mews, the facilities have some limitations. The ventilation is not good, and we experienced allergy symptoms after having the air conditioner on all night during winter. There was no proper heater in the room, so we had to rely on the air conditioner for warmth, and it took about 15–20 minutes to start working. Also, it did not feel very clean when in use. Another downside is that there is no real window — only the mews door — which makes the room feel a bit closed-in and affects air circulation. Overall, this hotel offers wonderful staff and an amazing breakfast, but the room facilities and ventilation, especially in the converted mews rooms, could be improved. If you are sensitive to air quality or prefer natural light and windows, I would recommend choosing other places or other rooms instead of the mews-style rooms."

★★★★ 9.2 (112 reviews)

"Everything was perfect, the staff were very friendly and helped us with everything we needed. The breakfast wasn't huge, but there was a bit of everything and it was very good. The rooms were clean, spacious, and renovated. Highly recommended if you're traveling by car, because of the parking, and for visiting Stonehenge."

"Don't expect the Ritz but clean functional rooms at a reasonable price with helpful staff. Probably a 10 minute walk in to the nice little town of Amesbury, which has restaurants and pubs and there is an underpass under the A303 "

The Stones Hotel Hotels in Salisbury

The Stones Hotel

"As a black person u wanna avoid this hotel never wrote a review before but this is the worse hotel. My room number was changed immediately when I got there. She was acting nice and all but u could notice the look and expression. So im like dont think to much about it. Let it go. I get in my room obviously it’s not what I requested. I let it slide cause I wanna sleep n continue my journey the following day. Constant noise of doors banging etc. bare I’m mind I wear hearing aids ! When I’m sleeping I don’t wear them so which shows it much better really loud. 10:30 someone opens my door and peed. What if I was naked or getting dress . The check out is at 12. So the is no reason for opening my door. !!!!"

The Great Bustard Hotels in Salisbury

The Great Bustard

"The Great Bustard - named for a local project to reintroduce that bird to Britain - was originally a village inn which has been extensively modernised to create a new restaurant space, two rooms in the original inn and several more forming a courtyard outside. It is about 7 miles from Salisbury and would be a convenient base for touring. We stayed in one of the rooms in the inn, which was modern, spacious and comfortable. It may be a minor point, but we noticed that there were plenty of power sockets and USB points - something that more superficial modernisations often miss. Noise can sometimes be an issue with rooms in pubs, but it certainly was not here, partly because the village itself is very quiet. The main feature of The Great Bustard is its restaurant, which is excellent. We were delighted that the quality of our evening meal was carried over to breakfast the next day, which was fully served and imaginative in its menu. Service throughout was personal and relaxed - what you hope for in a small independent place like this. Overall, an excellent stay."

The Old House Guest House Hotels in Salisbury

The Old House Guest House

"What a lovely guest house. We arrived damp and cold , but our room was lovely and toasty. A kettle, teapot, bottle of water, glasses, and mugs with teabags etc were provided on a tray in our room. We were given a list from which we could choose a breakfast time and food. We were worried that staying in a guesthouse would mean lots of interaction with the owners, but here it was just right. We were the only guests, so we were able to park our large car. This may be more problematic during a busy spell. We had a good night’s sleep and a nice breakfast experience. We had a chat to the owners’ son who was the breakfast chef. We would definitely stay here again, and it is within walking distance of the shops etc ( we headed out once the pouring rain had stopped to find a meal). I forgot; our room (2) had a small two seater chair which was really handy. There were also small toiletry bottles and a decent hairdryer. They’d thought of everything I think , that you need for a good stay ( although the bath towels could do with being bigger)."

"I spent one glorious night in their loveliest suite, and honestly I didn’t want to go home! The bath is top tier, and the suite is probably larger than my entire downstairs at home. The amenities were excellent, slippers, robes that actually fit my plus size frame, a Nespresso machine, super comfy bed. The breakfast was really good and eating looking over the river watching the swans and ducks float by was beautiful. I have some chronic health issues and the staff bent over backwards to be accommodating and generous, everyone I met was friendly and so helpful. I highly recommend, and I have already booked my next night there!! Stay for a while or like me, stay just one night as it is like a tonic."
