Impression Tengger Desert Camp ★★★
"The room was clean and well-maintained. The staff were attentive, especially with our kids. We experienced the desert, enjoyed a bonfire party, fireworks, and even a molten iron flower show at night. There were also plenty of desert activities to try. It's a shame the weather wasn't great, so we didn't get to see the stars."
Sand Star Tengger Desert Stargazing Hotel ★★★
"The hotel's cleanliness, environment, service, and facilities are all excellent. The front desk staff are lovely and kind, and the manager is warm and sincere. Our room opened right onto the sand, so we could watch our kids play outside from inside the room. I especially recommend this place for families traveling with children."
Zhongwei Yiye Xingkong Hotel ★★★★
"This desert camp offers good value for money, including breakfast and dinner. The kids had such a great time they didn't want to leave. When it's busy, it feels a bit understaffed, but overall it's a very nice place."
Hourglass · Star Chaser | PURE WHITE Desert Art Stay ★★★
"It's about a 30-minute drive from Zhongwei, and the campsite was easy to find. Someone met us at the parking lot. Breakfast was decent, but the water in the public showers was always lukewarm, probably because so many people were using it. Overall, it was okay."
Zhongwei Shapo Tou Desert Wilderness Desert Stargazing Inn ★★★
"My kid said this was their favorite hotel on our trip to the Northwest!~ The hotel is located within the East Lake Grassland Scenic Area of the Tengger Desert, which is originally a place for sand activities (ask the owner for a discounted package deal). My kid loved the Interstellar Chariot (actually, the off-road vehicles we took to and from the hotel to other camps were also a blast!~). The owner provides free pick-up and drop-off to the activity areas. Facilities: The hotel has everything you need. The public restrooms and shower rooms are next to the restaurant, very clean, and there are plenty of them. Thanks to the owner for upgrading us to a room with a private bathroom – it was so convenient to wash off our sandy kids every night after playing! If your budget allows, I highly recommend booking a room with a private bathroom!!! It's super important!! The air conditioning in the room was incredibly strong, we had to turn it off at night otherwise it got too cold~ The amenities included disposable towels and bath towels, and the slippers were also very thick and clean! Cleanliness: Exceeded expectations, there was surprisingly no sand on the bed! Environment: Surrounded by dunes on all sides. If you climb to the top of a dune a bit later in the evening and find a dark spot, you can see a sky full of stars~ Service: If you're traveling with kids, you absolutely must participate in the hotel's educational programs! At 8:30 AM, there's a desert hike where the guide even caught a lizard. At 10:30 AM, there's a wheat straw grid activity where they explain the principles and methods of sand control, and the kids get to experience making the grids themselves. It was too hot in the afternoon, so we didn't join the treasure hunt. The host for the evening bonfire party was great at getting everyone energized, and we could see fireworks from four or five other camps – they were big fireworks! The stargazing guide at 9:30 PM was very humorous. He first introduced basic geographical knowledge about the moon's shape, distance, etc., then explained the stars and constellations related to the Big Dipper. The Milky Way wasn't visible until 2 AM that night, but the moon came out after 1 AM, so we missed it. There are sandboards everywhere in the camp; it's better to find steeper slopes for a good slide. The manager is the owner himself; he patiently answers all questions and can even help receive express deliveries~ We'll definitely come again!!!~"
Desert Wild Star Lakeview Retreat ★★★
"The mattress was even better than those in regular hotels! The owner was incredibly helpful, and the surroundings were beautiful. The bonfire party in the evening had a fantastic atmosphere. In the mornings, there were study tours and hiking activities, including a desert water retrieval experience. They even had a professional instructor guiding stargazing lectures at night. The sunsets were stunning, and there were so many stars visible at night."
Shazhihai Desert Star Camp ★★★
"Overall, it was a very satisfying and enriching experience. The hotel is located in the Tengger Desert, and before coming, I honestly didn't expect the cleanliness to be so good – it was incredibly clean. I've stayed in a Meliá 'Starry Sky Room' for almost 2,000 RMB a night, and I feel the cleanliness here was comparable; not a single grain of sand, pristine white bedding, and the desert right outside the door. It had a private bathroom and a smart toilet, very clean. The room was a bit small, but for a desert location, I was perfectly happy with the conditions. As for the service, they provided pick-up and drop-off many times. When my child felt unwell after an activity, the owner even came to pick us up, ensuring you didn't have to walk an extra step. When leaving, they took us right to our car. They were incredibly responsive to every request. Regarding the hotel's arrangements, I personally felt they were very enriching. The 'star study' and 'straw checkerboard' activities were very meaningful. There were fireworks at night. Finally, about the activities: my husband tried every single one and said the 'Blade' was very thrilling. My child and I only tried the 'Wave Car' and camel riding. I personally get a bit carsick. For those who are timid, afraid of heights, or sensitive to weightlessness, it's worth checking these activities thoroughly. Phones are not allowed on any of these activities, including camel riding, so I couldn't take any photos. Overall, for this price, I am very satisfied with the service. The only dissatisfaction was the very poor attitude of the parking lot security guard, but of course, that's not within the hotel's responsibility."
Desert Horizon · Great Gobi Starry Luxury Camp ★★
"The desert tent is still very clean, the space size is OK, the night is very quiet, suitable for watching the stars. The boss is very good. In the evening, I cut Ningxia sand watermelon and shouted everyone to eat. The restaurant ordered a large amount of food. There was no charge for adding a bowl of rice. Generally speaking, it is worth feeling the beauty of the desert."
Royal No.81 Hotel ★★★
"The hotel is great, modern, and the restaurant is clean and luxurious. Everything is perfect. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting China. It's ideal for relaxation and various activities. 👍 The price is also reasonable."

Tengri Starry Sky Lake View Mercure Hotel
"This Mercure hotel by Donghu Lake is amazing! The lakeside scenery is absolutely stunning, and the rooms are well-equipped and clean, with 24-hour AC and hot water. The huge floor-to-ceiling windows let you watch the starry sky and sunrise without even leaving your room. The terrace also has a great vibe and is perfect for photos. The bonfire, fireworks, and firework show add a touch of romance. The service is attentive and thoughtful; the butler was very responsive and quick to resolve any issues. The environment is quiet and peaceful, making it incredibly relaxing to return to your room after exploring Donghu Lake. Being able to participate in the evening bonfire party and firework show was a real treat!"
Moxigo Desert Camp
"We arrived just before the peak season, so there was only a handful of guests. The staff were helpful enough and made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The activities were decent, not fantastic but with a few friendly nudges the staff did their best to make them worthwhile. Overall a nice trip, but I'd say two days stay is more than enough."
Shazhichuan Camp Hotel
"As soon as the kids were out for summer break, we quickly booked a desert hotel. It was less crowded, and the experience was great. During the weekdays, dinner is à la carte, but on weekends and during the summer holidays when it's busier, dinner becomes a buffet. The à la carte dining was reasonably priced, with home-style cooking. Bottled water was complimentary and readily available. The hotel staff were all very friendly. When we took the kids to Shapotou, the hotel helped arrange a taxi for convenient pick-up and drop-off. The hotel offered a wide range of family-friendly activities, which the kids really enjoyed."
Zhongwei No.7 Starry Sky Tent Hotel
"First off, the hotel's location is fantastic, right inside the Tonghu Grassland scenic area. The environment is superb, and transportation is very convenient, with shuttle buses available within the scenic area. The butler service was exceptionally good; they provide one-on-one service, contacting you in advance and offering excellent suggestions for your itinerary. Since we were traveling with our child this time, he participated in the evening stargazing activity, which I highly recommend! It's especially great for fostering a child's interest in astronomy. The hotel also hosted an amazing 'Ma Dao Cheng Gong' (instant success) equestrian show in the evening, which was incredibly impressive and definitely worth seeing. Additionally, the hotel offers excellent travel photography services at a reasonable price, and the photos turned out beautifully. Overall, I give this hotel a full five-star rating; everything was wonderful! We'll definitely be back!"
TengolHotel
"The exterior views are absolutely stunning and make for great photos. The room facilities are pretty standard, but for being in the middle of the desert, they're more than adequate. What really blew me away was the stargazing experience at night. The guide was incredibly engaging, witty, and knowledgeable. He didn't just point out constellations; he shared some really profound life philosophies too!"
KAIHUI BOER Hotel
"The best experience ever. Staffs are very friendly and breakfast is amazing. Highly recommended"
Jintumu International Hotel
"The hotel's location is excellent, just a few hundred meters from the Drum Tower. Parking is very convenient. The front desk staff were warm and attentive. The room facilities are complete, and the environment is clean and tidy. The shampoo and shower gel are really good. The breakfast is nutritious and plentiful. I will definitely stay here again next time. For such a great hotel, the price is really reasonable."
Hampton by Hilton Zhongwei Shapotou
"This hotel is located in a bustling area and has an underground parking garage. There are plenty of restaurants nearby for dinner. The breakfast spread is quite generous, but the aisles between the tables in the restaurant are a bit narrow, so be careful not to bump into anyone. There also seem to be a limited number of tables, so it's best to avoid peak breakfast hours. A special heads-up: the hotel's underground parking entrance is not directly on the main road. No matter which direction you're coming from, you'll need to turn into the service road in front of the hotel in advance to avoid missing the entrance."
Shapotou No.66 Desert Camping hotel
"Pickup from Zhongwei: Pickup from the station, airport, or city center: Very good. We were picked up from Zhongwei and taken to the campsite quickly and with excellent service. The owner was very nice. Upon arrival, the staff helped with our luggage. There was a bonfire and fireworks display in the evening, and free sandboards and sand shovels were provided. The children had a blast. All the staff were very friendly, and the owner even gave the children a small camel stuffed animal. I'll definitely stay here again when I visit Zhongwei."
Moju ・ Star Gazing in Desert Sands ・ Bonfire Singing Camping Hotel
"The housekeeper will contact you in advance to inform you of some details. Self-driving car parked in a parking lot, luggage alone to the hotel, guests replaced with an off-road vehicle or a package of desert 18 bends or chariots, I strongly asked to take a big car, too exciting, the driver uncle all the way in the desert tossing over the dunes with our screams. The package is still to be bought, including a lot of items to play. The family room we set is very spacious with a large bed + small bed, air-conditioned refrigerator and private bathroom, and it is very convenient to wash. There is no TV, and the desert project has to be played until late and there is no time to watch TV. Next to wings, you can go to play, this pool is cold, some people are swimming, but the water is really cold, and the photos are very good. In the afternoon, I went to play go-karts and motorcycles. The child's father never came back. The child said that his father might be trapped in the car. The car dealer took out his mobile phone and said that we had monitoring. Sure enough, I was trapped in the car, and I took the child to rescue the huge funny. I watched the sunset, sandboarding, skewers buffet at night, and the meat was good for roasting. Next to it was a bonfire party, fireworks, stargazing lectures. At night, we were too sleepy to take pictures. We could take pictures of the Milky Way. Come back to wash and sleep, and go riding a camel after breakfast the next day. There was a souvenir when I checked out, and the housekeeper girl kept cutting watermelons for us for fear that we would lack water. On the way to the parking lot, the child's father also blew his hat in the desert. I said no. The young man who drove immediately drove to find it back, thank you. Very good experience."
Zhongwei Beimo Homestay
"First, the owner made no explicit or implicit requests for a positive review. Second, I generally don't write reviews. However, I still want to give this homestay in my hometown a five-star rating. Firstly, seeing we had a child, the owner immediately upgraded us to a terrace room, one of the three best rooms in the location. The room directly faces the sandpit and pool, allowing adults to relax in the air-conditioned room while enjoying a clear view of the children through the floor-to-ceiling windows, saving us a lot of trouble. In the evening, when the campfire was lit, the young man proactively brought a Bluetooth speaker, which worked very well. The owner's service was attentive. The facilities were basically the same as a four- or five-star hotel, very comfortable, and the room was new but didn't have the new-house smell we were worried about. The front and back courtyards were quiet. Regarding service, the breakfast exceeded expectations, the owner helped with our luggage to the parking lot, and bought tickets – very comprehensive, five stars all around!"
Shaqi Yunshe Homestay
"Traveling with kids, the accommodation was superb. The cleanliness was reassuring, and both adults and children had a great time. It was a wonderful experience overall."
Zhongwei Valley Rain Jasmine Hotel (Gulou Xiangyang Pedestrian Street)
"I genuinely recommend this downtown hotel. The location is superb, making it easy to get anywhere. The room amenities are a huge plus 🌻 – not only complete but also very new, showing they're well-maintained. The room was clean with no strange odors, and the space was larger than I expected. Both the mattress and pillows were very comfortable, and the hot water supply was stable. 🌻 The lighting was soft, creating a warm and relaxing atmosphere overall. I felt really relaxed after my stay, and I will definitely be booking again."
Zhongwei An Hotel (Gulou West Street)
"This stay was absolutely perfect! The environment was clean and tidy, and the common areas were fresh and spacious. We booked a family suite, and the room was huge with excellent natural light and ventilation. The cleanliness was exceptional, even the hard-to-reach corners were spotless. The mattress was just right – not too soft, not too firm – so we slept incredibly well. The staff were gentle and thoughtful, responding quickly to any requests. It's super convenient for dining, drinking, and getting around. Overall, the value for money is outstanding. Highly recommended, this is definitely my top choice for accommodation in the area!"
Zhongwei Shapotou District Shengjin Nianhua Hotel (Gulou East Street)
"Clean, comfortable, and the front desk staff, Xiao Gao and Xiao Yan, provided exceptional service. I'll definitely be back! Exceeded my expectations, felt right at home. My top choice for travel; the service is thoughtful, and it's excellent value for money. Highly recommend!"
Miding Xingfan Camping
"The children played sand for the first time and had a great time. Follow the teacher to watch the stars and learn knowledge. There are also go-karts, off-road motorcycles, camels riding, unlimited sandboarding, bonfire party, fireworks show and other activities. The boss's service attitude is very good, the aunt's food is large and tastes good 👍. The overall experience is very good."
