📍 Kidonias 145, Chania

"Great location, in the core position of Chania. The amenities are new and clean, and the room is tidy. Maybe it’s off season so I haven’t seen any staff either check in nor check out, but it’s not bad for me."

Spilia Village Hotel & Villas

Spilia Village Hotel & Villas ★★★★

📍 Kolimvariou, Spilia

"We have just returned from 10 days spent at Spilia Village. We had a superb stay: a place to recommend to those looking for an authentic place in a village currently being restored, far from soulless hotel complexes. Very warm welcome: thank you to Arthémis for making the effort to speak to us in French, thank you to Manos for his daily good humor and to Dora and Miranta for their kindness!! and to all those whose names we didn't necessarily remember... Everyone was very kind and attentive! Very beautiful swimming pool with lovely trees, restaurant in a stone interior, in short, we loved it!!"

Artemis Apartments

Artemis Apartments ★★

📍 Kosti Palama, Stalos

"We had a very pleasant stay at Artemis Apartments. The location is wonderful - just a short walk to the beach, and many shops and restaurants nearby. We loved how close everything was, yet the place feels quiet and peaceful. The apartment itself was clean, comfortable and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful (many thanks to Nikos) -always ready to assist with anything we needed. Breakfast was good, though fairly simple and similar from day to day. But I suspect this is because it’s off-season. Some things stood out: the WiFi worked well most of the time, the pool area is lovely and well-maintained, and the value for money is excellent."

Hippie City Hostel

📍 Eleftheriou Venizelou 17a, Chania

"The room was what you'd expect for the price. It was a bit dirty, and I didn't feel it matched the photos. However, the staff were incredibly kind and helpful! Even though their English wasn't fluent, they used a phone app to translate and communicate with me. They even let us watch the World Cup match on the rooftop until 1 AM, which was really great."

📍 Plaka, Plaka

"The environment is beautiful, and it's just a few minutes' walk to convenience stores and restaurants. The hotel is very popular; I couldn't even get a one-hour late checkout. The private pool was a real treat; you could just open the patio door and jump right in."

Kaliviani Traditional Hotel Hotels in Chania

"We wanted to visit Falasarna Beach on the very west coast and wanted somewhere nearby to stay so that we didn’t have to rush off. This place was just amazing. Our host Ioannis sent us messages to ask when we would arrive so he could have our room ready and sent me another to tell me they were done and ready for our arrival. He personally came to greet us when we arrived. There is free parking about 50m from the hotel too. This place is off the beaten track in the small village of Kalyviani, sitting in the mountains with a view across Kissamos bay and the mountains. I think it only has 5 deluxe rooms all with a balcony giving you that breathtaking view. The rooms were modern but done with a traditional touch, they were spacious, clean and the bed was large and super comfortable. Top this off with a modern bathroom with an excellent shower and throw in a free minibar, what is there not to like. Once you’re in to your room, the hotel doesn’t really have facilities until breakfast that I could see; with access to the rooms via staircase to the side of the main building. Ioannis is always on call but If you’re looking to be waited on hand and foot this is not for you. Breakfast the next morning was just incredible. A personalised full spread delivered to the table: Coffee/Tea & fresh juice Breads with cheese, salami, ham and fresh tomatoes Eggs to your liking with bacon freshly cooked Finished off with Greek yogurt, honey and fresh fruit The whole village is so quiet and centered around a single taverna which was simply beautiful. We had the most fantastic evening before sitting on our balcony listening to the sea and crickets. Good: Host Location/view Rooms Breakfast Not So Good: Nothing Our family really enjoyed our night here, Ioannis was a great host and his hotel was just the traditional place we were looking for. When we are in Crete again, we will be staying here again. It was just beautiful."

"The true definition of Greek hospitality. The staff are kind, welcoming, always smiling, and genuinely eager to help. From the moment you arrive, you are made to feel truly welcome. Despite the high level of professionalism and attention to detail, you feel as though you are being hosted by one big family. A special mention goes to Dina, the Front Office Manager, to Mario, who always makes sure you enjoy the finest drinks, and to Markos, the Resort Manager, who ensures that everything runs smoothly. The buffet is outstanding and can easily compete with those of the world's leading all-inclusive hotel chains. The cleanliness of both the rooms and the public areas is truly remarkable. We are already looking forward to our next visit. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality!"

Avra Imperial Hotel Hotels in Chania

"Absolutely top-notch staff service! The dining was also superb, and the views were incredibly stunning. The only issue was that the elevator in the lobby frequently malfunctioned, getting stuck and not opening its doors unless someone pressed the button from the outside. As for hardware, the power outlets on the walls in the room were a bit loose. Other hardware was fine."

"Great hotel for Adults. Rooms absolutely spotless. Just a couple of improvements could make this as close to perfection, Breakfast absolutely superb with a wide varied choice of. The only thing we found is the coffee was always lukewarm. Also porridge lukewarm. Mini bar in room had only water , it would be nice to have a better choice without the hassle of room service. The hotel is a little far out, so if you wanted to experience different restaurants etc, then I would highly recommend a car. Pool and sunbathing area 5* and a shout out to the lady life guard she’s so friendly and helpful. Reception are friendly however when we asked at the start of our holiday for a late check out they advised the only way we could secure this was to pay €250. The alternative was to wait until the day of departure. When we enquired on the day of departure they said a late check out was €250. When I explained the above they called us back and we paid €100 for 5 hours."

Aphrodite Beach Hotels in Chania

Aphrodite Beach

"Not sure exactly what was “wrong” with this hotel but never had the feeling of enjoying our stay over the whole week. Renovated rooms are ok with decent view. Breakfast distinctly very average by Cretan standards. Maybe the owners had a bad week but we never caught them smiling once. All very mechanical as though they were having a very tough season. Beach is a tiny sandy strip just two sunbeds deep, and “popular with families” I.e. lots of kids. Water in the bay is shallow for quite some distance so can understand the attraction for small children. Short walk to the village and the seafront strip with some decent restaurants e.g. Pixida. Can’t recommend the hotel restaurant though. Kissamos seems like a resort that failed to take off after the financial crisis, with more than its fair share of half developed lots. We won’t return but we probably won’t be missed either. We shall definitely return to Rethymno and Paleochora though."

Nanakis Beach Luxury Apartments Hotels in Chania

"Had a lovely, relaxing 10 night stay at Nanakis. This was our 4th stay here. Lovely modern and clean apartments. Beautiful pool and views. Loads of parking for cars Mr and Mrs Nanakis and Son Giannis and staff are lovely people, nothing is ever too much trouble. Close to Stavros, Tersanas and Chorofakia, and a bus stop nearby to Chania. Small beach nearby within walking distance. See you next year x "

"If you’re not a guest of the hotel - the attitude to you will not enough respectful. Quality of the food is not about 5 stars hotel and has not a good looking (just see the picture) At 19.30 o’clock the stuff refused to make a tea, or other any hot beverages By the phone no possibility to make a reservation, nobody answers The person who makes reservations, Maria Syggenioti disoriented clients. Firstly she book you a table and closer to the evening has just sent a text message “sorry we overbooked”, then didn’t pick a phone. When you come without reservation- there are empty tables, and you can easily select a place where to chill. Awful service, don’t recommend to visit this place"

"We spent a week in Kato Daratso and stayed in the Nontas Hotel. The room was big, comfortable and clean and catered for our needs adequately. The staff who I did engage with during our stay were helpful and friendly. We did not use the pool area, or the snack bar so I cannot comment. I was slightly disappointed that we had to keep hold of our towels from the room for the late check out, and also had to leave our bags in the court yard area. The beach was beautiful, and the little cafe was great, nice food, a good selection of drinks, and friendly service. A trip to Chania is a must."

Aris Boutique Hotel ★★★
"A nice hotel a short walk from the town centre. Our room was clean, quiet and well equipped and, being on the second floor, had a level of natural light and a partial view of the sea. The outside, paved areas were sensitively laid out and featured a number of attractive sculptures. There was a good breakfast with a wide range of options. The staff in the hotel were incredibly helpful and welcoming. There were also a number of printed guides giving information about local walks etc. Our only criticism was that the bathroom was rather cramped."

"Some of the staff have a bit of an attitude problem. It also seemed mechanical the way the in-house restaurant manager ’Manos’ spoke to us and everyone else. Also he was dominant in his behavior towards the customers making it uncomfortable to say when something wasn’t right. Making it feel like we, the customers, are the problem. He was also favoring customers that responded better to his dominant ways of interacting. We spoke to several other couples there who agreed. On our first evening we had dinner in-house (the only time). When we got to the outside restaurant area, 2 staff and a random person sat smoking in the nearby bar, no one welcomed us until we stood in front of them looking confused. Went onto having an undercooked burger and a boring pork chop dish. Go to the nearby local restaurants (2 close by). The hotel should keep to breakfast and snack menu and then excel at these while working with the local area for eating out. It already being a village hotel this just makes sense to lift and utilize their surroundings better! Kudos to ‘GENI’ and ‘Vasillis’ a waiter and receptionist who both were good to us. The facilities have potential (a lot) but the execution is lacking accordingly. Pool area needs music. The lights around the hotel is something you install in your shed or a backlot with motion sensors. The table tennis area lacks all kinds of mood setting. Talking about the place resembling a shed, that area tops the list. Also the table was broken along with the bats. Use lamps that resemble a flame. Yeah all in all a lot could be done for the setting. You don’t get the feeling of being in a hotel that has the stars they tell you. On paper they achieve the stars, but not in our combined experience of the place. "

"We booked a 5-night stay but left after one night due to the lack of air conditioning and mosquito nets/screens in the bedroom. We had to sleep with the windows closed and the bedroom door open to get cool air from the unit installed in the kitchen. The hotel is rated 2 stars, and the manager deemed one air conditioning unit sufficient for a two-room apartment. We still had to pay for two nights due to the contract cancellation terms. In August, a partially air-conditioned apartment is quite inconvenient, and leaving immediately does not constitute a violation of the contract from the customer's end. This reflects poor service delivery from the hotel owner. I would not recommend this hotel to those who cannot tolerate the heat."

Anais Collection Hotels & Suites ★★★
"Stayed at this hotel recently with 3 teenagers and 2 adults. Had booked 2 rooms but didn’t specify to have the rooms next to each other, which wasn’t a must for us. When checking-in we were told by the receptionist that if possible she would try to move one of the rooms to be closer to each other. This was fine by us but we never heard back from her (even if she couldn’t accommodate it, it would have been nice to keep us updated). The rooms were ok, tired and in need of some repairs /renovation (especially the bathroom). Didn’t expect anything luxurious for a 3 star. The apartments are ok and have the basics. The mini supermarket nearby is quite pricey but one has no choice to shop anywhere else nearby unless you have a car. The nearby beach was very convenient and walking distance which was the highlight of our trip. In the evenings there is pretty much nothing to do nearby and is peaceful and quiet, if that’s what you are after, and one needs to travel to Chania city for any action. We tried the lunchtime pool snack at the hotel. I would say overpriced for the quality. Would avoid. Also tried dinner and we were left very disappointed. The salad leaves were soft/soggy, not appetising at all. Looked like the salad was old. Hardly anything in the salad although there were supposed to be figs, pie nuts and pomegranate seeds. There were some but for €12 I would expect something amazing! I travelled from London and even I was shocked at the prices and the value for money was non-existent. We ordered chicken souvlaki for the kids which was definitely NOT REAL CHICKEN or real meat!!! Was very disgusting given that souvlaki is supposed to be their traditional cuisine, so at least they should have gotten this right. I know it’s a 3-star hotel but I would still expect the chicken to be real chicken. I have had many souvlaki before in many places but this souvlaki at this restaurant was absolutely disgusting!! For the 3 virgin mojitos, we were given 3 small glasses with water and mint and lemon. We were charged €7 per glass. AVOID!! My pina colada tasted like mixed juice. I have had many pina coladas in my time and this was definitely nothing I had tasted before and was an imitation of a pina colada. Would not eat here ever again. Totally waste of money. The location of the apartment was nice, close to the beach (5mins walk) and easy access to the Chania city by bus which stops outside the hotel. Only issue was the food at the restaurant of the hotel and the pricey supermarket nearby. The staff at the hotel were nice and helpful and provided us with information about the bus to Chania and the boat trip to Balos."

"From the very first day, we felt at home. We were welcomed with a refreshing drink and given a clear explanation of all the hotel’s amenities, as well as great suggestions on what to visit and do in Crete. The staff truly deserve special appreciation — especially Michalis (the hotel manager) and Polytimi (at the bar), who greeted us with unforgettable kindness and warmth, making us feel like part of Greece. The food at the hotel was absolutely fantastic — homemade, full of flavor, and prepared with love, just like sitting at a Cretan family table. We truly hope to return many more times and recommend this stay 101%!"
