"There aren't many hotels in the Takachiho area, and this is one of only two good value-for-money options. It's convenient to stay here if you're planning to go boating in Takachiho the next day. There aren't many dining choices nearby, so we just grabbed a quick bite. It was still a walkable distance to see the traditional Japanese performance and then head back."

"The hotel offers free parking, which is very convenient if you're driving. The room was clean, and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. The air conditioning allowed for independent adjustment of temperature, fan speed, and airflow direction. However, the curtains didn't block out enough light, so I woke up quite early. The breakfast was good too, and since it's hard to find restaurants nearby, I recommend adding breakfast to your booking."

"You check in at the office and get assigned a cabin in the complex. The roads look a bit tight but you can get to them in a small car and careful driving. Got given a discount ticket to a nearby local bath which was nice. Great view from the cabin I had."

"We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Shikimi. The staff was delightful. They were all so nice and helpful. We also loved the food and they went over and beyond to accommodate our dietary needs. The location was perfect for walking to local tourist spots. If I ever return to Takachiho, I would stay there again."

"The location was good, close to Takachiho Gorge. The room was clean and comfortable, but there were many small insects. The food was just okay. I had requested special dietary accommodations in advance, but they weren't reflected at all. People with allergies should be cautious. When I contacted them about possibly being late for check-in due to a flight delay, the owner's response was a blunt 'that's not possible.' As someone in the service industry, I found that reply questionable. I believe there could have been a more polite way to say it. It was unpleasant. Many of the staff are foreign, and while I appreciate their effort, communication in Japanese was difficult. The amenities, like toothbrushes, were plentiful. There was also a drink bar with bottled tea and alcohol. They even provided chairs and cushions specifically for Kagura performances. The hairdryer and iron were from ReFa, but the hairdryer was small and noisy, hurting my ears. The iron was too small to be useful. However, some might find the amenities and facilities satisfactory. I didn't use the public bath, but apparently, it's not a hot spring and isn't very large. My friend who went with me said it was just right for about three people."

"Booked their specialty room, comes with a traditional Japanese bath tub in the room, and room is spacious. Hospitality was great. We went for the show at night at a temple, the ryokan staff offer to provide us portable chairs as we have senior with walking stick and pregnant woman in the group, to bring to the show instead of sitting on the tatami floor. I love the foods provided as well. Overall, pleasant experience."

"This was my first time staying in a traditional Japanese hot spring hotel. Although I only stayed for one night, it was the hotel I was most satisfied with during my entire trip to Fukuoka. As the saying goes, ”knowing the details reveals the big picture”. Every furnishing in the hotel, from the electronic board on the wall, the hand soap container next to the washbasin, to the soft towels and exquisite tableware in the bathroom, all show the owner's taste and careful management. Breakfast and dinner were arranged in separate rooms of different styles, allowing us to enjoy the unique Japanese and Western styles in a limited time. The meals are prepared with care, rich in flavor, and made with fresh, authentic ingredients. When it started to rain after dinner, I checked the opening hours of the hotel courtyard, and the staff immediately and enthusiastically held an umbrella to take me to visit the closed courtyard. Finally, when we checked out, they helped us take photos at the entrance of the hotel. All of this made me feel the hotel's hard work and sincere service. The food standard was also quite high, making me look forward to staying here again."

"Room size was just enough for 3 adults and 1 baby. It was good idea to book tatami as the baby can walk around in the room. The room was a bit old but it was fine and good to sleep and rest. The breakfast was good too, transitional Japanese style. The public hot spring was not good, quite old but clean notmal water. I would recommend you to buy some hot spring powder to make your own one hot spring bath in the room 😂"
