Fairmont Château Lake Louise

9.5/10
Amazing

Lake Louise wasn't fully thawed when we visited in late May, but the view from our window was absolutely unbeatable – so incredibly beautiful it felt unreal. This kind of beauty is something you won't find anywhere else; it's like looking back a thousand years! You can book dinner reservations in advance, and our family was lucky enough to dine right by that million-dollar window. Eating there while gazing at the view outside was an absolute treat. Around 4 AM, you can catch the 'Golden Summit' sunrise, and the lake is much less crowded before 7 AM. There's also a hiking trail where you can overlook the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and the snow-capped mountains, especially Lake Louise itself. I've never seen water so incredibly blue!

The receptionist was very cheerful and the room was very clean! It is also located conveniently in Downtown Calgary. However, the temperature of the shower can be a bit tricky to adjust as it will either be too hot or too cold. But I was very satisfied overall and would recommend this hotel to fellow solo travellers!

Irwin's Mountain Inn

I recently stayed at Irwin’s Mountain Inn for a quick winter getaway, and overall, it’s a solid choice for those who want to be in the heart of Banff without the premium price tag of the luxury resorts. What I Loved: The Location: You really can't beat being right on Banff Avenue. It was a quick, scenic 5-10 minute walk to the downtown core for dinner and shopping. Plus, the ski shuttle stop is just steps away, which is a massive plus in January. The Amenities: After a cold day outside, the 8-person hot tub and dry cedar sauna were highlights. They were well-maintained and exactly what I needed to thaw out. The Staff: From check-in to check-out, the service was genuinely warm. They were happy to provide local tips and made the process seamless. On-site Dining: We grabbed breakfast at El Toro Restaurant inside the hotel. The food was surprisingly good—definitely a step above your standard hotel fare—and very convenient on a chilly morning. A Few Considerations: Noise Levels: As some other travelers have noted, the walls are a bit thin. I could occasionally hear activity in the hallways and the hum of the heating system, though it didn't ruin my sleep. Parking: The underground parking is a great perk (especially to keep the snow off the car), but it is limited and quite tight. If you’re arriving late in the evening during peak season, you might have to hunt for a spot. Room Vibe: The rooms are clean and functional, but they do feel a bit ”classic.” If you are looking for ultra-modern luxury, this isn't it—but for a cozy, budget-friendly mountain base, it hits the mark. Final Verdict: A fantastic mid-range option for winter travelers. It’s clean, cozy, and perfectly situated. I’d definitely stay here again for the convenience and the hot tub alone!

Not our first time staying here -but we left with a sense of frustration today! It began when the front desk couldn’t find our reservation - twice ! (despite a phone call 2 hours prior to check in). Had to take my driver’s licence and go “somewhere to talk to someone in the back” - then he came back (after 2 or so  minutes) and “magically” the reservation had been found. Unnerving for my identification to disappear from my sight. No explanation offered. Frustrated again at check out when the desk clerk tried to charge us for something from the snack bar in our room - we had literally left our room 2 minutes before. Couldn’t tell us what item we had “consumed” (we hadn’t consumed anything - especially at those prices!) and then when asked how they could possibly know within 2 minutes (of us leaving our room) that an item had been consumed - they became very defensive and couldn’t actually answer the question of “how do you know what to charge us for” and the response was “it’s for the report at the end of the day - no one is saying you actually took anything”. Except that’s exactly what the desk clerk said the charge was going to be for - “an item from the snack bar for a total of $4.20”. After challenging the charge we were told that no charge would be put through on the credit card. Made to feel like we had “stolen” something when we asked for further clarification on the charge. “No apologies or thank you for staying with us”. Disappointing. Side note - Service in the casino was great - including the restaurant.

My last stop before heading home was in Jasper. I didn't have high expectations, so I wasn't disappointed. The hotel itself wasn't perfect, but it didn't have many flaws either. I'd say Jasper feels more like a transit point than a destination in itself.

My fellow Rotarian and I came for the 2025 Rotary International Conference in Calgary. The stay was pleasant. Service was excellent. Room was cleaned daily which was nice returning to a tidy clean room. Coffee and tea were replenished daily which was great. I will highly recommend to friends and family. The hotel was so close to the airport. Shuttle service was provided to the airport which was convenient. I liked the lobby display ready for the 2015 Calgary Stampede from July 1st 2025 for ten days.

The room was very large and spacious. The bacon at breakfast was great, but everything else was just so-so. We stayed in a mountain view room, and having dinner on the small balcony felt wonderful, just like a scene from 'Sissi'. Unfortunately, it was still too sunny at 8 PM, so after ten minutes, we had to move inside.

The price was reasonable, and it wasn't far from the downtown core compared to other hotels, which made it easy to get to souvenir shops and supermarkets. Parking wasn't super spacious, but there was always a spot available. There's a gas station right next door, so it was convenient to fill up before parking if you had a rental or your own car. The front desk is in the building right next door, and checking in and out was a breeze. The best part was that the deposit refund was processed immediately. It was a huge relief not having to constantly monitor whether I'd get my deposit back, which is often a source of stress on trips. That was definitely the highlight.

Hotel is a bit far from town but it provides free town shuttle. We booked the balcony room hoping to get a better view. We have rooms with big trees in front. When asked if we can change rooms, he won’t change since it’s not booked direct. The balcony room has little heat as the heater is smaller and the room is colder.

The room was tiny. I wouldn't recommend the standard room if you have two kids; you'd probably need a suite to fit everyone. The hotel breakfast was the best I've had in two weeks in Canada. The buffet offered great value for money, with plenty of fruit, make-your-own waffles, and smoked salmon. The Continental option alone was more than enough, plus you could order a Starbucks coffee, and refills were freshly brewed, which was a nice touch. The hotel also has mini-golf for kids, open from 10 AM to 8 PM. However, there was an Asian female staff member who seemed a bit discriminatory. We checked in at 7:40 PM. I saw two white children next to us borrowing clubs to play, so I asked if we could play too. She said it was almost closing time and we could come back tomorrow. Yet, after we dropped our luggage in the room and came downstairs at 7:45 PM, I saw a white father and son coming out with golf clubs. I was quite upset, so I went back to confront her. Seeing that I was angry, she then said, ”Fine, you can have them, but they must be returned to the front desk by 8 PM.” I took them out of spite. Honestly, this kind of differential treatment was quite unpleasant, but everything else was great.
