An amazing little hotel just off the Main Street. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Rooms were a very good size and clean and well decorated. Breakfast was in a nice court yard and plenty of options and good serving sizes. Really impressed and would love to return one day.
Boschendal Estates must rank as one of THE places to stay in the Stellenbosch area. Surrounded by mountains on one side and rolling meadows on the other, the scenery is spectacular, and the location is ideal for visiting vineyards in the region. The Retreat Cottages where we stayed were charming and the staff at both the Deli and Werf restaurants were most helpful. Special mention for Marylise who went out of her way to accommodate our requirements and Peter our young hiking trail guide who persisted despite a severe allergy attack. Great breakfast at the Werf too!
The hotel fully matches the photos. It’s clean, cozy, and each guest has a private entrance. The only downside was that in our room there was no door between the bedroom and the bathroom, which felt a bit unusual. It was also a bit chilly in the room in the evening. The property itself is lovely, with a pleasant area for walking where you can even spot peacocks. A decent pool and a sauna. There is also a nice restaurant on site, where breakfast is served in the morning and you can enjoy a delicious dinner in the evening. The breakfasts are European-style, with especially tasty fish and fresh fruit.
Absolutely Fabulous Stay at Protea Hotel Franschhoek We had a fabulous stay at the Protea Hotel in Franschhoek—easily one of the highlights of our South Africa trip. The location is perfect—walking distance to shops, wine bars, and top-notch restaurants—but still feels peaceful and tucked away. The rooms were stylish, comfortable, and spotless, with thoughtful touches that made it feel like more than just a chain hotel. The staff went above and beyond—warm, helpful, and genuinely kind without being overbearing. The pool and garden area were lovely for a mid-day wine break, and the breakfast was fresh, generous, and beautifully presented. Everything felt calm, elegant, and easy—the kind of place where you immediately exhale and relax. Would absolutely stay again. A gem in the Winelands.
Exquisite location with gorgeous views. The room had central heating which was very welcome in winter. Highly recommend the Spa - we treated ourselves to one of the personal journey packages and it was totally worth it.
We stayed here for 3 nights. Perfect location, perfect stay. Breakfast was great. Lunch was available but at the time of our stay dinner wasn’t available. However town is super close by and there are ample restaurants to choose from. Staff are super friendly and helpful. There are a couple of swimming pools that the guests can use. The villas are spacious, clean and have everything you need. We would 100% recommend staying here and we would definitely return!
CCarmieFriendly and helpful staff, wonderful breakfast. However the rooms looked nothing like the pictures they changed the decor of the rooms. I was offered a different option that was acceptable, however they should definitely update pictures online.
Good spacious room with terrace. Location is good, not far from city centre. People who work here nice, helpful. Feel very secure, quiet place , relaxing, had a very good sleep here, the bed is good
