My first time in Shizuoka Prefecture, and I spent the first night at the Nihondaira Hotel.
Walking into the lobby, there's a huge glass curtain wall directly ahead. If the weather is clear and visibility is good, you can see Mount Fuji in the distance. Even every room faces Mount Fuji. At the foot of the mountain are Shimizu City, home of Chibi Maruko-chan, and Miho no Matsubara.
When I arrived at the hotel in the afternoon, it was overcast, and Shimizu City wasn't visible due to heavy fog and humidity. I was really hoping for clear skies the next morning. And my wish truly came true! At 5 AM, a thought flashed through my mind, I woke up, pulled open the curtains, and although the sun hadn't risen yet, a blush appeared in the southeast. Looking straight ahead, in the distant sky, a massive silhouette appeared – that was Mount Fuji.
Alright, I'm content. Hahahaha~
Staying at this hotel, you can completely, completely relax. You can lie in your room and zone out, or stroll on the huge lawn in front of the hotel, watching the shimmering lights of Shimizu City at night.
The booking price included dinner and breakfast. A bit pricey, but well worth it. Dinner was a French set menu (Menu in pic 7). For an additional 1600 yen, I upgraded to Japanese-produced Wagyu beef, which I highly recommend. It was grilled perfectly, locking in the pinkness, and the texture was tender and fresh both inside and out. For breakfast, I recommend choosing the Japanese set meal, as online reviews say the Western breakfast is terrible.

It's a very affordable and decent option for a short stay in Shizuoka. The rooms are spacious enough and it's comfortable to sort out your stuff inside.
The staff is nice and helpful, I could even check in at 15 instead of 16, which was pleasant.
The facilities and amenities are all quite good.
The hotel is conveniently located close to Shizuoka station, so it's not a problem to walk to or from the station even carrying luggage

The hotel is incredibly close to Shizuoka Station, about a 5-10 minute walk, and surrounded by restaurants, Don Quijote, and convenience stores, which was really fantastic! I highly recommend it!
Also, if you walk about 10 minutes, you'll find the Shizuoka Prefectural Office and Sunpu Castle & Park. On a nice day, it would be perfect to visit the Prefectural Office (opens at 10 AM) to see Mt. Fuji, then take a stroll through Sunpu Park. It was also interesting to see many schools nearby!
If you're visiting Shizuoka for a trip to a smaller Japanese city, I definitely recommend staying here! Unlike other accommodations in Japan, this one was quite spacious! For reference, we stayed in a twin room.
We inadvertently chose to have breakfast and the staff were incredibly nice, though the food was just average. It's still worth trying at least once.
I didn't take any photos of the room's interior, but I've included pictures taken near the hotel and from inside the hotel at sunset.

70sJudging by the number of restaurants and facilities, I guess this used to be a luxury hotel in Shizuoka. The lobby is quite grand, and the room is very spacious compared to standard Japanese hotels—even with two big suitcases fully opened, there was still plenty of room to walk around.
The location is great, as it's not far from Shizuoka Station and close to the main shopping area. Although there is no supermarket nearby, Donki is just around the corner. It offers great value for money, and I will definitely stay here again if I visit Shizuoka next time.

Guest UserThere are only self check in if you come in after 10pm. Instructions were not correct and self check in machine didn't work. There were no phone in the hotel so I have to spend my long distance dial and stood there 30 mins to figure out the check in. Filed a complaint later on and hotel refused to refund. But trip.com was nice enough to send back a reasonable amount of money to compensate my long distance call. Only if you speak Japanese and have a local phone and check in at day time, otherwise not recommended.

Breakfast was very satisfying. The specialty Shizuoka oden was varied, and there was also buta. The konjac and mugo were especially delicious. One thing I was disappointed about was that there was no fruit at all. Also, the hotel's room assignment system doesn't take requests into account at all. I requested a room with a nice view in advance, but they had already assigned me a room with a parking lot view on the second floor. They didn't assign it upon arrival; the room number was already written on the check-in form. I stopped by to store my luggage before check-in time, and it was already there. I went before the 3 o'clock check-in time, but it was useless; it was a pre-arranged plan. The female staff member was sarcastic, and her attitude was evident in her expression and tone.
She's Japanese, but she speaks Korean fluently. She didn't even realize it, and she kept speaking in Japanese. I've stayed at many hotels in Japan, but this is the first time I've experienced such service.
Wow!! Contrary to the hotel photo, there's no sauna in the women's spa! I booked because of the sauna, but I was surprised. It might be helpful to double-check our website.
This was my first time staying at the Kuretake Inn chain, but if you don't care about the staff's friendly service and detailed facility information, it's fine. I'm not sure I'll return to the Kuretake Inn chain.

ShimadaInuFree unlimited alcohol at bar after 6 pm is totally beyond expectation.
Room is quite big, with large size bathtub and separated toilet. Very quiet from my experience.
The room I stayed does not have a window, not sure if it’s the common case. But I’m ok with that.
The location should be considered as the major concern. It’s right beside the interchange of highway, so can be ideal for self-driving trips. However, for travelers by public transportation, you’ll have to use the local bus service, it can take quite a while to figure out how.(For anyone who may read this comment: if you depart from Shizuoka JR station, look for bus No.71 or No.27, and get off at Shizuoka IC stop , which is the closest stop from hotel)
Generally I do enjoy the stay, and the nearby region has a lot of restaurants as well as convenient stores, will consider to come back if drive by next time.

It seemed to be the day of a fireworks display and was very popular that day.
Check-in was done in one part of the coffee shop.
We apologize when it is crowded as the general public also enjoys tea.
The rooms have air conditioning, but the beds do not, so it feels very hot and difficult to stay there.
There are no towels or toothbrushes.
You need to bring your own.
Earplugs were available at the washbasin.
There is only one shower and one toilet, so you have to be patient when others are using them.
I woke up in the middle of the night when someone came home and took a shower because of the noise.
You have to cross a big road from the station, so it is better to go out with plenty of time to spare.

A good place for budget travellers.
It is located not really close to the Shin-Shizuoka Shizuoka station, yet both are in the walking distance. Neighbourhood is not busy or crowded. Bath and toilet are good and the shower especially has a strong water pressure.
The room is extremely small; apart from the bed, there are almost no other spaces left. This can make the room less cosy if a customer expects different indoor activities or the room size. Yet for the budget travellers who only sleeps in the bed and do nothing else, this hotel can be a good choice.
