Hotels near Daisetsusan Kurodake Ropeway, Kamikawa

This hotel, nestled in Sounkyo, is likely the highest and largest in the area. It boasts three hot spring baths, both indoor and outdoor, offering breathtaking views of the distant mountains, streams, and charming bridges – truly a serene experience. There's also a mid-mountain hot spring, beautifully landscaped with various trees that burst into different colors in autumn, and you can even smell the fresh grass. It's utterly therapeutic! Both dinner and breakfast are buffet style, featuring a wide array of local Hokkaido delicacies. The DIY grilled beef on a hot plate was exceptionally tender, and the scallops and salmon sashimi were delicious. Plus, there's unlimited drinks, and you can even mix your own cocktails! Red Leaves Valley is right next door, just a 5-minute walk. During autumn leaf season, they have light and shadow shows at night, which are worth checking out. The daytime scenery is even more stunning, and you can hike to the end where there's a small waterfall. Be aware, the path can be a bit challenging, so it's more of a short hiking trail.

very well located hotel, just next to the ropeway to visit top of mountain. nice onsen Japanese bath. attention no Wi-Fi in the bedroom.

Location- Right by the stream, extremely walkable to 7-11 and the central plaza in the Sounkyo Gorge and a little downhill from the cable car station. Note- the plaza is super sleepy and not many restaurants open. 7-11 was acceptable for our party but not many options for food in area. A short drive to the Ryusei no Taki (falls) in the area Cleanliness- Hotel was clean but extremely dated. Hotel doesn't just need an overhaul (carpet mismatched colours, threadbare), holes in walls in our room, chair broken, rooms need keys to enter, safe needs key to access. If booking, please beware, some rooms are extremely small and cannot facilitate the number of people they project they can with futons on the floor and any luggage you may have (especially with the table and chairs in the rooms) Service- Counter staff are comfortable with English and check-in and out were easy. They were able to give information on the area. We were yelled at by the parking attendant in Japanese. Though we tried to understand what he was saying by trying Google Translate, he kept berating us in Japanese and refused to try to communicate with translator or hand signs. Facilities- The breakfast was sufficient- we ate at 7:30 a.m. (breakfast ends pretty early at 8:30 a.m.) and it wasn't crowded (tour groups eat earlier, we think). Fair amount of vegetable options and a few meat options include breakfast ham and sausage, grilled mackerel, scrambled and soft-boiled eggs. We visited the onsen once but have no other onsen to compare it to

Beautiful 大雪 area with sulfur smelling natural onsen water. Nice outdoor onsen, fireplace, lounge area for free drinks including sake, beer, wine, gelato, soft serve ice cream, good finger foods. The unrenovated areas are old looking. There are many tour groups each day and dinner time especially feels very crowded as if you are a member of their tour group. Not a very pleasant experience but food quite ok. In terms of service, all the female staff were helpful and friendly especially the female supervisor at the check in counter, she was helpful and very dedicated. However I had an unpleasant experience with a male supervisor when checking in, very unfriendly, told me no kettle in room can be provided while later I found out there are kettles. It made the overall experience very negative and the tone of voice was very unpleasant. Maybe he is overworked so I didn't take it personally but this kind of service is very unusual in Japan or anywhere in the world at this level of accommodation. Not sure if will go back again or recommend to family or friends.

The location is very good, just opposite the visitor center and the Blackey Ropeway. It is best for climbing. It takes 3 minutes to drive to Hongye Valley and drive to the popular waterfall and Galaxy Waterfall for about 5 minutes. It is very convenient. Morning and evening meals are good, especially at night, the buffet is very good, Japanese sake shochu whisky has, you can also make cocktails. The hot spring is small but of good quality. It is known as the only natural hot spring in Sounkyo. It’s okay to bring a child, three mattresses and four people sleep enough. The overall catch is that the entire layer of Yunyun Gorge (not only this 🏨) style is more old-fashioned, mainly for middle-aged tourists and hikers, feeling more dull. The restaurant waiter also has a nepal brother who has good English and a good service attitude.

Chaoyangtei is a traditional hot spring inn with a bit of history. All the facilities are well-maintained and don't feel dilapidated. The rooms are designed in a Japanese-Western style, and even with three people staying there, it didn't feel cramped. The views from the windows are sunny and bright. The hot springs are both indoor and outdoor; I personally preferred the outdoor one, as it offered a relaxing view. There's also a 5-minute fireworks display at 8:45 PM. It's very conveniently located just a 6-minute walk from the inn to the Kurodake Ropeway station.

I booked with the knowledge that the resort is a bit dated. However, the facilities are adequate and public onsen for men/women were natural and refreshing. I wish the hotel would have special menu for the day so for guests like us who stayed 3 nights would not be terribly sick of repeating menu. Our meal plan include dinner with alcohol and breakfast. Highlight was room view was facing autumn foliage and stream. The smoking lounge that has no door, right near to restaurant - just make the whole place smell of cigarette smoking. Having said that, I would recommend for people who want to explore Sounkyo:Daisetsuzan national park.

Sounkyo onsen hotels are generally expensive, so this hotel is suitable for travelers who don't have high expectations for room facilities (they are quite old, and the bathroom is small) and want a lower cost of accommodation. Advantages: The reception and restaurant staff are friendly; the accommodation is relatively quiet, with the sound of flowing water; the room size is acceptable. Areas for improvement: The room facilities are old, but the bathroom is as small as those in Japanese chain business hotels, the threshold is high and you have to be careful when stepping over it; the refrigerator still has beverage cans left by the previous guest, indicating that cleaning needs improvement.

Best accommodation for those climbing Kurodake. The staff are very helpful and the rooms are warm.
