Around it, the city breathes commerce: food stalls, markets, bus stations. From here, you can walk to the Seatrans bus terminal, and soon after find yourself boarding a ferry to Koh Samui or Koh Phangan. You can wander to the agricultural market, where local trucks carry passengers to Phunphin railway station. Every path from this corner leads somewhere further, as if the city itself is designed for departures. Parking, often a worry in the center of a restless town, is solved here. Behind the hotel, a wide lot waits—easy to enter, easy to leave, as if movement were always part of the plan. The lobby never sleeps. Staff at the desk watch the night pass with quiet patience. A small elevator, unassuming, carries you to rooms that are wide and clean. At the entrance, a wardrobe stands for shirts, bags, forgotten stories. Again on this trip, I can't say enough about the cheerful, helpful staff at 100 Islands resort hotel. The building is beautiful with the sound of running water throughout the public spaces. Although near busy roads and close to town the room was so quiet and the bed so comfortable I had the best sleep I've had so far since we've been travelling Thailand! There was no kettle or cups but one was provided as soon as requested (we do love our cuppa wherever we are! 😀). The breakfast was the usual Thai rice and spice. Along with toast and fried eggs which, if you prefer warm we're made to order upon request. The only disappointment was the swimming pool which, although situated in what was a beautiful tropical jungle scene, looked a bit iffy for swimming as there were understandably leaves and bugs on the surface. There was an outdoor pool which looked very inviting on the lobby camera but was unfortunately closed.

A great new hotel (been open 3 months apparently). For the price we paid, it was great value for money. Super clean. Access to a good fully equipped gym a 2 min walk away. A nice pool. Even had free bananas and biscuits in the lobby. Has a few quirky things but they don’t impact anything. Friendly service. I would stay there again if I come to Surat Thani. A 25 min walk or a 4 minute drive to the night markets (20 baht each in a pick up truck or ~70 baht grab taxi)

A comfortable stay in a Great location in middle of the city surat Thani ! The hotel is newly refurbished with comfortable bed and amenities. It’s closed to the riverside and night market with lots of delicious food! I stayed there for 1 night before going to Koh samui and would definitely go back again next time.

A Fading Gem with a Fantastic Breakfast The Wang Tai Hotel feels like a grand dame from a bygone era. Walking into the lobby, you can see it was once a truly luxurious place, and that sense of scale and history is still there. However, it's clear the hotel is in need of a bit of a makeover. While everything is clean, the decor and some furnishings feel a little tired and dated. That minor point aside, our stay was very pleasant. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, always going out of their way to assist us. The breakfast, however, was a wonderful and unexpected highlight! Instead of a standard buffet, it's ordered a la carte from a menu. Don't let that worry you the range is huge, covering both Thai and Western options. Everything we ordered was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. It felt more like a restaurant experience than a hotel breakfast. The large swimming pool is a major plus – perfect for a refreshing dip and lounging in the sun. The location is also very good, making it a convenient base for exploring Surat Thani. In summary, if you can look past the slightly worn edges, The Wang Tai Hotel offers incredible value, spearheaded by a stellar breakfast, great pool, and excellent service. A little refurbishment would easily make this a 5-star experience again.
