"After arriving at the train station, there was a dedicated shuttle service. We contacted them in advance to arrange the pick-up/drop-off time. The room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and distinctive, prepared according to each family's preferred breakfast time. The outdoor environment was clean, tidy, and cozy. The exterior was antique and charming, while the interior was modern. We were able to get a late check-out when rooms were available. Every staff member was enthusiastic and took care of everything perfectly. If I have the chance to visit again, I'll definitely stay here."

"I did not want to leave. That is the most honest thing I can say about Xihe Academy. "Guest house" is a label that does not prepare you for what this place actually is. If you are American and hearing that term for the first time, forget whatever image just came to mind. This is not a MIL suite tucked behind someone's garage. This is a fully realized, deeply considered experience wrapped inside one of the most stunning environments I have ever walked into. The courtyard alone stopped me mid-step. The surrounding area looks like an active film set -- you keep half-expecting to hear "action" called from somewhere just off camera. And then you step inside and somehow it gets even better. I genuinely lost my words. The room is the kind of space where you realize someone has actually thought of everything. Included minibar. Fresh fruit and snacks. Loose-leaf tea so you can brew a proper cup. Bathrooms fully stocked down to the shower shoes. You can arrive with nothing but your clothes and be completely at ease. They have handled the rest. The staff made all of it feel personal. When a language barrier created a small miscommunication, they were patient and gracious without a flicker of frustration. When I joked that I had gone a little crazy shopping and could not close my suitcase, they immediately offered suggestions to help. That warmth is not a policy -- it lives in the people. They coordinate meals as well, and mine was delivered to my room and genuinely delicious. One thing I will say without hesitation: use their driver. This is a private, gated area and you cannot simply grab a random car or rideshare. Arrange your pickup from the train station or airport in advance -- it is seamless, affordable, and completely worth it. Do not skip this step. This was my first guesthouse experience, and Xihe Academy has set a bar I was not expecting to clear so soon. If you stay here, you will not regret it. Five stars is not enough."
Jinjiang Liyi Hotel (Pingyao Ancient City Branch)
"Facilities: The room size is generous, and the amenities are standard. The showerhead mount is quite loose. The central air conditioning cools very well. Value for money: Decent. Breakfast: Absolutely terrible, to the extreme. This is the worst breakfast I've had among the sixteen-plus hotels I've stayed at during my self-driving tour in Shanxi! No fried eggs, no ham, sausage, or bacon – none of them. There wasn't even fried rice. When I asked why there was no coffee machine, I was told it was on the first floor. The breakfast restaurant is on the second floor; are guests expected to go down to the first floor to get coffee? I even used a Ctrip membership breakfast voucher for this, so I essentially wasted my breakfast benefit. Bed: Quite comfortable. Parking: Underground parking available, which is a plus. Location & Transportation: Basically located between Zhenguo Temple and Shuanglin Temple, in the urban area of Pingyao. Laundry: Two machines."

Would definitely stay here again if I ever were to visit Pingyao again. I also really enjoyed the courtyard with the couches that stayed dry and cozy when it was raining one evening😄"

"The owner is incredibly kind. They messaged us before we even arrived, offering to pick us up from the North Gate of the ancient city. The room was also really nice, and for the price, it's excellent value for money. There's a sightseeing cart right outside that can take you anywhere in the ancient city, and it's also a pleasant, short walk back to the guesthouse. The owner patiently explained how to best explore the ancient city, and even gave us a bottle of vinegar when we checked out – truly wonderful! The courtyard is also very beautiful."

The owners are lovely and very friendly and helpful and provided detailed information on the town. They provided a pick up from the station, which is really nice. It's very peaceful and quite and I enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend staying here."

There were no hidden charges or extra fees throughout the stay, and the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Next time I visit Pingyao, I'll definitely stay at Mingqiangxia Courtyard again!"

"I came to Shanxi following the Black Myth route, and this homestay really amazed me! The night view inside Boya Residence is so photogenic that every shot feels like a blockbuster movie! It is one kind of scenery during the day, and it is another kind of scenery when you come back from the busiest main street and enter the courtyard at night. It is really beautiful, absolutely stunning. I took a lot of great photos in the courtyard, and I didn't have to retouch them. The courtyard was really comfortable and quiet. It was really leisurely to have a cup of tea in the courtyard and enjoy this moment of tranquility. Every detail in the room of this store is really pleasing. The beautiful boss will stand from the perspective of the guests to prepare everything in the room. This trip to Pingyao Ancient City is really worth it. When you come to Pingyao, you must stay in the courtyard of the beautiful sister's house, which is also an ancient courtyard with a history of the Qing Dynasty."
