"Our stay at Funny Lion was absolutely wonderful, and we can say with full confidence that this is a truly special place. The location is perfect, very convenient and comfortable, but what makes this hotel outstanding is the people. The staff are incredibly responsive, caring, and attentive. They genuinely care about their guests and even remember everyone by name, which makes you feel truly welcomed and valued from the very first day. The rooms are beautiful, very clean, cozy, and well maintained. Everything is done with great attention to detail. There is absolutely no need to stay directly on the beach because the hotel regularly provides a transfer to their own Papaya Beach at 9:00 and 11:00 in the morning, with return transfers at 14:00 or 16:00. It is very convenient and well organized. We highly recommend using the hotel’s airport transfer both to and from the airport. When our flight from El Nido was unexpectedly canceled, the team went above and beyond and helped us organize a transfer all the way to Puerto Princesa. This level of support and care is rare and priceless. We will definitely return with great pleasure. Funny Lion is not just a hotel, it is a place where you feel truly taken care of. The best! "I'm not picky and we travel a lot, so I have plenty to compare with. But here, I was shocked by the sheer number of negatives all in one hotel. We stayed in two different room categories (including a suite). For its price range, this hotel was a huge disappointment (this is our third hotel on Palawan, all located near beaches, and the prices were more or less the same). Inside, even on the bed, there were tiny ants crawling around. Breakfast isn't included, and the rooms aren't cleaned. Once, throughout our entire vacation, I asked them to clean the room and change the bedding. They came by evening, but they just took the towels and didn't replace them, saying everything was being washed 🙃. After showering, I had to dry myself with a dirty t-shirt because nothing in the room dries properly. The Wi-Fi constantly cut out, and for the last few days, it didn't work at all. Overall, it was a complete misunderstanding; the only saving grace was the ocean view from the room! There was mold on the walls, I even saw spots on the mattress. The extractor fan in the shower didn't work at all, the toilet seat was loose, and there was hardly any water pressure in the sink and shower, just a tiny trickle (I assume for economy — even in the suite) – I've attached photos (notice how the faucet is installed). On the last day, the air conditioning even started leaking. There's no safe, and the door lock sometimes fell out with the key, and I had to reinsert it into the hole. If you want a somewhat comfortable stay, only book the suite; the price difference isn't that much. The TV is in the photos, but it's not actually there, though we didn't need it anyway."

"* Upon arrival, the air conditioning unit in our villa was not properly maintained. The filter was extremely dirty and clogged, causing excessive noise and poor performance. We had to clean it ourselves in order to use it. * There is little to no mobile signal in the area, and the WiFi connection has been unreliable due to ongoing maintenance, making it very difficult to stay connected. * There has been significant noise disturbance from construction work directly behind our villa, including the use of loud power tools throughout most of the day over several days. * We were only informed about a wedding taking place upon check-in. As a result, we were unable to use the sunbeds located outside our villa and had to relocate further away. Also due to the wedding taking place, the hotel had to make many soundchecks during the day before, playing very loud music which made it hard to relax on the beach. The wedding guests (80+ people) were allowed to use the villa next to us, as their designated toilet, which caused a lot of back and forth from the weddings guests right by our villa. This made it difficult to relax. * Additionally, we find that the restaurant prices are quite high compared to the quality of the food. For example, breakfast at 800 PHP did not meet basic expectations, as even simple items such as cheese and ham for bread were missing. I’m also sorry to say that the chicken adobo is tasteless, and on the menu it says the menu has been created by a Michelin chef. My mango daquiri tasted only of alcohol, so I had to ask for one with less alcohol. As a certified bartender, that is unacceptable. Even the French fries were not done properly as they needed more time in the oven (I think that’s what they used to make them at least, I would prefer if they were fried in oil though). However, very good mango shakes. * We would also like to mention that the access roads leading to the property are in very poor condition. The roads consist mainly of uneven gravel and are full of deep potholes, which make driving quite difficult and uncomfortable. In some areas, it is only possible to drive at around 10 km/h due to the condition of the road. We believe that the roads would greatly benefit from proper maintenance or being paved with cement, as this would significantly improve accessibility and the overall guest experience. We understand that some of these issues may be temporary or unforeseen, but taken together they have had a significant impact on our stay. However I would really like to highlight Hazel from the reception at the Nacpan Beach Villas. She was really sweet and thorough when we had any questions and went the extra mile for us. She deserves a raise. Please let her know we were really happy with her and really appreciated her."

"The hotel looks nice from the outside, but everything inside felt dirty and poorly maintained. Initially, we were put in a room overlooking vents and a noisy street, even though we had specifically requested a quiet room when booking. The hotel was accommodating and moved us to a different room. However, I have to say, the soundproofing is poor; you can hear everything happening outside very clearly. Especially the motorcycles going by and the rooster crowing in the mornings! The cleaning was terrible – everything was dusty and grimy. And they'll only clean your room if you remember to hang the 'make up room' sign on the door. Breakfast was a letdown; the selection was very limited. The cheese was awful and clearly the cheapest kind. There was no cold cuts or ham. Breakfasts here felt more like lunch or dinner. You're better off going to local cafes for breakfast. On the positive side, the location is good, and the pool area is beautiful with a fantastic view. This hotel might be suitable for a short stay, but definitely keep the aforementioned issues in mind."

"This room was a nice treat, the room was massive! I love the Japanese inspired design and the smart toilet. The hotel is quiet and very close to the Lio beach front with cafes and restaurants (2min walk). It’s a nice beach too, to watch planes take off from the nearby El Nido airport. The hotel offers a free loan of electric bikes which was fun to explore the surroundings. I spotted monkeys outside the accommodation too! They offer a free shuttle every hour to El Nido town which is helpful if you have a tour, are going to the port, or just want to explore. Ron, the driver, is nice and helpful. The service really is the best part of the experience. Every single hotel worker and cleaning staff greeted us with smiles and welcomes, and went out of their way to look after their guests, particularly the reception staff Marv, Par, Rich, and Dan. Marv gave us local recommendations."

"A little slice of luxury. Amazing clean rooms and pool. We didn’t have hot water but it was sorted quickly! Scooter hire is expensive here (compared with outside) but necessary to get around. The hotel has a transfer bus but times are limited to morning and evening. Breakfast was great. Dinner was good (expensive compared with outside as understand in hotel). If you order the pork, it’s like a starter portion so bear in mind."

"AMAZING!!! Thank you for allowing us to spend a few days in paradise!! Fantastic views, fantastic service and super kind owners!! The zany ocean floor and stays shallow far enough that it feels like a giant swimming pool! Food was great- drinks were cold and views were magnificent!  It is a bit off the main road to get there but that’s what makes it special and not packed with people- well worth the journey to get there. Highly recommend it and we hope to come back again one day soon!! Thanks again for such a fantastic experience! :)"

"we had an amazing stay, the rooms were clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We requested blind menu dinners which the hotel offers and the food was amazing 😅, its a must if you want to explore Philippines cuisine.The hotel has a really good view and its close to the zipline and vanilla beach.We planned to stay here for 3 days but we extended for a week because of the service and food. I highly recommend if you want to spend a nice chilled holiday.😅 also they offer free transport to Macdonald. Will definitely comegain"

"What a wonderful stay at Buko Beach Resort. Close tricycle ride to the hustle and bustle if you wish. This resort is peaceful if you want to relax next to the beach. The rooms are spacious, clean and the beds are comfortable with all the amenities that you need. The staff are so friendly and helpful they will assist you anyway they can to make your stay convenient. The food tastes great and there are a variety to choose from while you enjoy the Seaview. They arrange island trips for you and can also arrange SPA treatments for you in your room which is devine and so convenient. Will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to El Nido."

"We were delighted with the hotel—small, clean, and surrounded by greenery. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. It's located near Nacpan Beach. We arrived and rented a motorbike right there. The breakfasts were delicious and filling, the mattress was comfortable, and the room had everything we needed. We can highly recommend this hotel. The owner was also very kind and responsive; he drove us to the bus station for 1,000 pesos."
