"The hotel has a unique charm and a great location. If you communicate in advance, they can arrange a pick-up/drop-off service from a nearby station. The rooms are Japanese-style with tatami mats, and it's a 'one night, two meals' plan. Dinner was delicious, and they even prepared the futons for us while we were eating. The public onsen is really comfortable; you can open the glass windows to take in the beautiful mountain scenery. The private onsen in the room was also a nice touch."

"Really beautiful hotel, amazing staff. Room was amazing with great amenities, bit of a pig to get to from Gora station though, make sure to arrange their free shuttle service to avoid lugging your suitcase down a million stairs like I did. All on all a great stay though, highly recommend"

"The whole experience was a way over my expectations and very comforting to know they can arrange shuttle to pick us up at Gora Station whenever we need. The onsen was unbelievable whether is in the public or private, with the magnificent view! My partner and I were both very satisfied with the spread of food every breakfast and dinner. It truly deserved the 5 stars. We also wanna say a special thanks to Nana & Billy who professionally bring us a smile when they greeted us everyday we were there. Billy made the black tea exceptionally well that gave the most aroma of earl grey I ever had! The varieties of amenities that traditional Ryokan has was amazingly high standard. We will definitely choose to go back if we visit Hakone again no doubt."

"After arriving at Ubako Station via the ropeway, I contacted the hotel, and a shuttle quickly came to pick me up, which was very convenient. The room facilities were well-equipped and clean. The onsen tub was on the balcony, and the staff kindly reminded me that the water temperature was quite hot and I should add room temperature water to adjust it myself. Soaking in the hot spring while looking out at the trees in such a peaceful environment was truly satisfying. Unfortunately, it was cloudy during my stay, so I couldn't see Mount Fuji. The meals provided by the hotel were of a high standard, clearly prepared with care and not at all perfunctory. After dinner, they even prepared some late-night snacks for us to enjoy back in our room. Overall, the hotel's facilities, service, and meals were well worth the price we paid."

At first, we got lost while finding the entrance, but a helpful staff member made an effort to lead us all the way to the reception area. "This hotel is a paradise in the mountains of Hakone! Traditional style of the rooms - it feels like you are living in a Japanese family. We were prepared a traditional dinner, which was served in our room. It was very tasty and varied! The hotel has 3 onsen: 2 - private, 1 - public. We visited only the private ones (you need to book a time in advance at the reception upon check-in, the visit time is 30 minutes). It was wonderful! The hotel also provides a transfer from and to the nearest train stations. The rooms are clean, cozy, we slept on tatami under soft blankets. The hotel has a relax room. With massage chairs and a very quiet atmosphere. We stayed in this room after visiting the onsen and got great relaxation. And you are also given national clothes for rest and sleep. It is very beautiful and cute. Breakfasts were also in kaiseki style - varied and unusual. The hotel staff is very kind and friendly. this hotel allows tattoo baths. great experience, thank you very much! want to come back again!"

"This hotel is located halfway up the mountain, offering a very peaceful environment. It boasts a large hot spring pool and a leisure area where you can read, play chess, or even roast sweet potatoes. The hotel's beverage bar provides complimentary freshly ground coffee and black tea. It's also very convenient for picking up guests from the bus station. The main languages spoken are English and Japanese, but Mandarin communication can also be requested. The freshly made burgers for breakfast are a nice touch; although the variety of dishes isn't extensive, the quality is good. Dinner is quite a ritual, with Western-style courses served one by one starting from the appetizer. The waiter explains each dish as it's served, and the food tastes great too."

"The hotel service was excellent. They provided a convenient shuttle service from Odawara, which made our check-in smooth. After checking in, we were personally escorted and given a thorough explanation of the facilities. The hotel's location is superb, offering stunning lake and mountain views, truly feeling like a secluded paradise. We could see Mount Fuji from both the lakeside and our room (on clear days), and it's also very close to the cable car station."

"We had a great time at this family friendly property, it took some time to get there but worth the trip!  Staff were nice!  We went for the Hakone shrine and the beautiful Torii gate.  Did not disappoint.  The town of gora is very small, not much to do.  We stayed one night - it was perfect !"

Yoshiike Ryokan ★★★★
"Our trip to Hakone was incredibly lucky, with beautiful clear weather, and staying at the Yoshike Ryokan exceeded our expectations, leaving us very satisfied. The most impressive feature of the ryokan is its vast, strolling garden. Spanning a large area, the garden is exquisitely designed with ponds, small bridges, lush trees, and moss. Strolling through the courtyard at leisure, with the sound of flowing water and abundant greenery, every step reveals a new beautiful view. The atmosphere is truly captivating, and you could easily spend a long time just exploring the garden. The view of the garden from our room was also delightful. I must give a special shout-out to a staff member with a ********* accent. Her service was gentle and incredibly patient. She was meticulous and thoughtful in her communication, diligently answering all our questions, and her demeanor was humble and courteous, adding a lot of warmth to our trip. Overall, the staff at the ryokan are of a very high standard, treating guests with kindness and grace. Many online reviews mentioned that the facilities are old, but we honestly didn't feel that way during our stay. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the entire ryokan environment was very quiet, far from the hustle and bustle, making it perfect for relaxation. We didn't opt for the kaiseki meal at the ryokan this time, so we can't comment on it. This old ryokan perfectly captures the serene ambiance of traditional Japan. After soaking in the hot springs and strolling through the garden, both body and mind felt completely soothed. If I ever come back to Hakone, I would gladly choose to stay here again. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys peaceful gardens."

Hakone Kowakien Hotel ★★★★★
"The hotel has been recently renovated and is very clean. It's located near Kowakudani, and the hotel shuttle bus stop is behind Gora Station (for the Tozan Railway). After getting off, go in the opposite direction and through the underpass, and you'll find many hotel shuttle buses parked there. The shuttle runs every 20 minutes. The hotel is also very close to the Hakone Open-Air Museum, about a 1km walk, which is quite convenient. I think you need a separate ticket for Mori no Yu, or maybe I checked in after 4 PM? Perhaps I booked too late, as it closes at 7:30 PM. The front desk didn't specifically mention this hot spring. Both breakfast and dinner are buffets. There's a bit of a wait for breakfast, but it's very well-organized. Dinner is served in two shifts, at 5 PM and either 7:30 or 8 PM – you need to book in advance. The hot spring baths are decent."

"My overall stay was incredibly comfortable. The hotel's ambiance was elegant and serene, offering a truly authentic Japanese experience. The hot spring water was wonderfully warm and soothing, leaving me feeling completely relaxed and destressed after a soak. The service was thoughtful, attentive, and very polite. Our room was clean, tidy, and had a cozy layout. The meals were exquisite and authentic, and the location was convenient for getting around. It offers great value for money and is definitely my top choice for accommodation. I'll certainly be back!"

"How do I put it? This hotel is a bit of a mixed bag. Pros: The triple room with breakfast and dinner (dinner menus didn't repeat over two nights) was a third cheaper than other places. The hot springs were also good, with four outdoor pools. Cons: The location is inconvenient, right at the highest point in the Hakone-Yumoto area. The shuttle bus runs late in the morning and early in the evening, which doesn't really match most people's itineraries. Taking a taxi is probably the most sensible option, at 900 yen one way, plus a 400 yen surcharge for calling one. Of course, walking down the hill from the hotel to the station without luggage isn't too strenuous, taking about 20 minutes. As for facilities, there's no complimentary bottled water in the room, and no washing machine. And the service... after dinner, a waiter accidentally spilled a bowl of soup all over my pants while clearing the table. They handed me a dry towel, and that was pretty much it. No further apologies or assistance."
