"Located a 10-minute walk from Yumoto Station, the hotel room was spacious. What I liked most was the Japanese-style table and chairs set up in addition to the bed, perfect for enjoying snacks and tea. The room itself had been renovated, although the door was a bit worn. The basement onsen (hot spring) was quite nice. Hotels in Hakone are generally very expensive, so this one was reasonably priced – not cheap, but not expensive either. Overall, I was satisfied. However, the cleaning service was rather slow. They only asked for daily towel changes and trash can emptying, and when I returned around 6 PM, the cleaning still hadn't been done."

"We arrived by public bus, so it was relatively convenient, but the hotel's shuttle service wasn't very well-organized. Dinner was a bit different from what we expected, leaning more towards Western tastes, while breakfast was a rich buffet. The only minor flaw was that the stopper for the private hot spring drain tended to get stuck. The river sound was quite loud, possibly due to it being flood season. However, once we closed the balcony door at night, it was perfectly quiet. Thank you for the honeymoon gift, we were very happy about it."

He explained everything in great detail, including how to use the facilities and other helpful information, which made us feel comfortable from the very beginning. "Took my elderly parents here for a one night stay. We took the shuttle bus from the train station for 200 yen a person, but if I were to go again, I would opt for a taxi instead as the busses are small and can be hard to bring multiple pieces of luggage on. I thought both dinner and breakfast would be at the buffet, but the check-in receptionist said dinner was a traditional Japanese kaiseki meal. As my parents can be picky eaters with foods they are unfamiliar with, I asked to switch to the buffet so they can eat whatever they want. The room was large and had an a private open-air onsen bathtub. The shower next to the bath is a bit finicky as the water is on a timer. You have to press the lever every few seconds to get the shower running again. That day was chilly, so showering was a bit cold, but the onsen more than made up for that. We did not visit the public bath or the public onsen, so cannot comment on those. Yukatas are provided inside the closet in your room. Some guests chose to wear them everywhere inside the hotel, some did not. It is down to your personal preference. The dinner buffet was quite nice, with lots of Japanese and Western food and drink options, including alcohol. While we were out at dinner, the staff came into our room and laid out a futon on the floor in additional to the 2 twin sized beds. The breakfast buffet had somewhat fewer options, but it was still good."

"I'm so glad I chose this hotel; it was a fantastic stay! The service was warm and welcoming, and the food and desserts were delicious. The Kyoto chef was very interesting, and we had a great chat, creating a cheerful atmosphere throughout the meal. The bartender was very knowledgeable, and the cocktails were delicious—we tried many different kinds in one evening, even though the portions were small. We also talked about local Hakone cuisine, but unfortunately, we didn't have time to try it; we'll have to save that for next time. The toiletries provided were of very high quality, from POLA skincare products to electric toothbrushes. My room included a private outdoor onsen (hot spring bath), and I thought I'd be soaking in the cold, but surprisingly, it wasn't cold at all on a cool evening. My skin felt so smooth and soft afterward! Although it currently says there's no shuttle service, after contacting the hotel, I discovered they actually do offer pick-up and drop-off services to nearby attractions and stations. Perhaps because it's newly opened, we'll see how things develop. One minor drawback might be the internet; the signal was sometimes unstable. But that's to be expected in the mountains, where even mobile data is unreliable when moving around ʅ( ･´‸･｀)ʃ The hotel staff were very distinctive and approachable. It was probably the first time I'd had such a deep interaction with them. Although I usually communicate in Japanese, most of the staff could speak English, and there was even a lovely ********* lady who spoke Mandarin. Meeting such interesting people during my trip made this stay a truly unforgettable experience. I hope it won't be so popular that it's impossible to book next time! w"

"This was my third stay here. Last time I stayed for about a week, but this time it was just two nights. I appreciate the casual atmosphere more than a luxurious one, which I think is a good thing (even though it's a bit pricey for me). The building, rooms, and location truly offer an experience and an escape that's worth more than the price. My only suggestion for improvement is regarding the restaurant's dinner menu, which only offers wood-fired dishes and French courses. If there were à la carte options or individual dishes, solo travelers like myself could enjoy the food more. The taste was good, though I understand preferences vary. As for service, the plates were cleared a bit too quickly – it felt like they wanted me to leave sooner. While not all foreign staff were problematic, there were times when language barriers made for unpleasant experiences. However, the Japanese staff were consistently wonderful, providing excellent service and kindness. I was particularly impressed by a staff member named Kondo; I'd try to poach them for my own company! Overall, it was another great stay, thank you! And I was pleasantly surprised to see a deer in the backyard, haha."

"Overall, my trip to Hakone was quite good. The hotel's location is excellent, and the Hakone Freepass was definitely worth it. "My main reason for choosing Hotel Indigo was the expectation that a foreign hotel would offer more diverse food options than traditional Japanese cuisine, and that the rooms would be more modern. Both expectations were met, which was great. However, the hotel's location is quite remote, making it difficult to walk to Gora Station. Thankfully, the hotel provides a shuttle service to the station from 10 AM to 6 PM. If you plan to take the shuttle to Odawara, remember to book it in advance at the front desk. There's also an unsightly warehouse-like structure next to the hotel, which is a bit of a letdown considering how secluded the location already is – it really spoils the view. Around 90% of the guests here seem to be Western tourists, likely in groups, as the breakfast area was almost full before 8 AM. For dinner, we decided to eat near Gora Station and had some excellent unagi (eel) rice. A taxi back to the hotel cost us 700 yen. For first-time visitors to Hakone, I'd recommend staying in Hakone-Yumoto instead, as it's livelier, offers more dining choices, and has more convenient transportation. Also, the hotel's public bath is mixed-gender, requiring you to bring your own swimwear or borrow special attire from the front desk, which I found a bit inconvenient, so I didn't end up using it."

"Beautiful hotel with a really large, clean and comfortable room. Appreciated the complimentary drinks in the room, and at the foyer (in the morning) and bar (during happy hour). Lovely view of Mt Fuji across the lake as well, worth every penny. Unfortunately Mt Fuji was covered by clouds for most of our trip, but the only time we were able to see it mostly in full was at the hotel. Onsen experience was also great; while it was a public onsen, other guests did not really use it, which was a real shame as there was a jacuzzi and outdoor onsen inside. Only downside was the central air conditioning which made the room feel a bit too warm after coming back from the onsen, but otherwise still a comfortable stay."
