Half Gwailo ABCOverall an enjoyable and relaxing one night stay at this tiny cosy hotel in Zhouzhuang, for our final leg of our 6 days Suzhou trip. We took a didi over to Zhouzhuang, which was faster and cheaper than I expected, just a little over half an hour.
The hotel staff called me the day before to arrange for pick-up near the watertown ticket office. Actually I can't speak Mandarin and their English wasn't too good but we ended up chatting on Wechat as Wechat has a built-in translate function in their chat.
So, 15 minutes before we arrive, we just had to let them know on Wechat. And the staff is already waiting for us, helped us with the luggage and guided us through the ticket buying process.
You do have to pay for the ¥100 RMB ticket to get into the watertown and the ticket is good for 3 days. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the entrance.
I picked this hotel because it was right inside the watertown and it had the ancient Chinese interior, although all the amenities are modern, including a robust and high-tech Kohler smart toilets in each bathroom.
There is a nice coffee shop inside the hotel and the coffee shop owner is friendly and takes his coffee craft seriously. The hotel gives you 2 free drinks during your stay and the coffee menu is quite extensive. If the hotel rooms are not booked on that day, we are told the hotel opens their doors to coffee customers.
The hotel owner is actually younger than I expected so I am impressed she meticulously created this authentic experience and the attention to detail. She was friendly and helpful and was open to accommodating our needs.
We booked the entire 2nd floor, which was 3 bedrooms and we had 6 adults in our group. This tiny hotel only has 3 bedrooms so if you booked all 3 rooms, you pretty much get the entire hotel to yourselves which include the first floor which is spacious and comfy.
When I visit Zhouzhuang again, I am looking forward to stay here again. It's certainly not cheap, but you do get what you pay for - which is people passionate about hospitality (in a Chinese way) and also a hygiene and staying experience that is certainly up to international standards.

ELStravelOur time at Hotel Zhaoye was lovely! The homestay staff were kind, communicative, and accommodating. They offered Chinese and Western breakfast options, including meatless options for vegetarians. The beds were comfortable and the room was cozy. The location of the homestay was perfect for those visiting Zhaozhuang. The staff recommended local restaurants and activities. It was easiest to communicate via Weixin/Wechat or in-person. Would recommend!

Guest UserThe room had so much character, you could tell the owner put a lot of thought into every detail. The service was also incredibly attentive; the owner tried their best to accommodate all our requests. Highly recommend! And since it wasn't peak season, the room rate was quite reasonable too.

Guest UserThis hotel has a lot of character and is located right inside the Zhouzhuang scenic area. The front desk, room service, and restaurant staff were all warm and attentive.
They offer complimentary white fungus soup every evening, and their homemade yogurt for breakfast was delicious. They even upgraded me to a room with a bathtub, which was a nice touch. Overall, I had a great stay.
My only minor complaint is that taxis can't drive directly to the hotel entrance, but you can arrange for hotel staff to meet you at the scenic area's main entrance.

Not great value for money. I was driving through Kunshan and needed a place to stay for one night. I looked around and found Hualuxe (I'd stayed at one in Kunming and assumed it would be the same quality), so I booked it without hesitation. The underground parking felt a bit chaotic, and when I went upstairs to check in, the lobby was very noisy. There wasn't just one hotel reception desk; multiple hotels shared a single row. After finding the Hualuxe front desk and checking in, I went upstairs and noticed the elevators didn't require a key card to operate, which made me feel a bit uneasy about security. As I walked down the hallway, an unpleasant smell hit me. I thought it would be fine once I got into the room, but the room itself had a strong, musty, damp odor. The window was very high and blocked by a sofa, making it impossible to open. The biggest issue was that the duvet was completely damp (which is very unusual). Also, the swimming pool is shared with other hotels, so it was crowded, and the restrooms smelled terrible. On the plus side, the room was very spacious, the facilities were decent, and breakfast was quite extensive. The set meal for two at the Chinese restaurant on the second floor was prepared with great care and tasted delicious.

This stay exceeded my expectations; the overall experience was incredibly comfortable. Both the facilities and the service were exceptional, and I highly recommend it. The hotel even has a heated swimming pool, which was a great bonus.
The hotel's overall decor is simple yet elegant, and the public areas are clean, tidy, and well-laid out, creating a warm and refined atmosphere. The guest rooms are spacious and bright, with good ventilation and natural light. The bedding is soft and gentle on the skin, and the mattress firmness is just right, effectively relieving travel fatigue for an excellent night's sleep. All basic room amenities are available; the air conditioning provides stable heating and cooling, hot water supply is ample and consistent, and the bathroom's wet and dry separation is very well done, clean, and odor-free, with good quality toiletries.
The hotel staff as a whole are very service-oriented, friendly, and welcoming, making you feel at ease throughout your stay. The front desk handled check-in and check-out efficiently and quickly. The staff were professional and patient, proactively offering information about hotel services and local attractions, and readily answering all questions. Highly recommended!

The check-in process was very thoughtful, and they upgraded my room. As soon as I opened the door, it felt like home – very pleasant and cozy. The hotel facilities are comprehensive, and the breakfast spread is excellent. The cleaning staff (auntie) was very meticulous and kind in cleaning the room.
