"You can take a leisurely walk from Kyoto Station to the hotel or you can transfer to Kujo Station from Kyoto Station. When you exit from Exit 2, you will find the hotel right there. If you have luggage, Exit 4 has an elevator. The location is quite convenient as there is a 7-11 just a short walk away. Rooms may be small in size, but they offer hot spa. Considering these features, I highly recommend it."

"We stayed here for 3 nights and it was quite an enriching experience having to sleep on a Japanese style bed. Initially we were stunned by the mattresses and set up as we forgot that we booked the Japanese beds, but it exceeded our expectations as we slept pretty well on it. The blanket was HEAVENLY & FLUFFY - an absolute joy. Definitely a thing I missed when I returned home. The toilets were decent and the showerhead water flow was good. Service wise - the rooms were cleaned daily and they did help keep the mattresses during the day. We also paid to have a 40mins private onsen experience for about 500 yen. Pretty alright, esp if you would enjoy some privacy. Do reserve beforehand with the front desk. Additionally, the staff were able to converse in many languages & were always very helpful! :) Location wise - it's pretty convenient & accessible. We were surrounded by lots of cafes & shops that we can explore just by walking around the neighbourhood. Many temples & tourist spots were within walking distance too. The only irk we had was the noise and soundproofing as we could hear people outside & whenever they walked around or by the stairs. Sometimes, the roadside can be noisy too.. so it did affect our sleep sometimes. But regardless of that, it's a pretty decent spot to crash when you're in Kyoto! Do give them a try!"

"From the entrance to the inn, I was able to have a luxurious experience in a historic townscape that was beyond my imagination. The room is clean and I am very satisfied! In addition, when using the lounge, the hospitality of the staff was excellent, offering fragrant tea and alcohol, and we were able to have fun conversations. They gave me a lot of suggestions to make my stay in Kyoto wonderful, and it was fun! The service was excellent, with alcohol being brought to your room instead of just in the lounge. thank you."

"The hardware aspect of the inn is perfect. It can't be helped that the maple leaves in the courtyard haven't turned red due to the climate and location, but I wish they had at least picked the brown and withered leaves. All of the staff who assisted us were foreigners, but I wonder if there are no Japanese staff stationed there full-time. Even if you give your name at check-in, it cannot be checked against the reservation list (I told you that you are third from the top of the list). I made a reservation that included breakfast, but I was only booked for the night (the check-in sheet said ”room only”, so I pointed this out and discovered the error). When I requested a luggage delivery service to deliver to my next hotel (in Osaka), I was told that they could only deliver to Osaka Station (the list of internet and in-room services also said that delivery to the hotel was possible). When I pointed this out, they called the delivery company to confirm and accepted the order.Even at that time, they did not tell me the name of the hotel in Osaka. The price was different from what was listed in the room list ( The price had gone up)). Breakfast is a normal Makunouchi bento. etc. I wanted to experience the atmosphere of Kyoto, so I decided to stay at a fairly expensive hotel, but I was disappointed."

"Hotel Material was a great value stop in our tour of Japan. We stayed for 2 nights as a family of four and it provided everything we needed. The bunks were large and ample for even adults. The sunken king bed was unusual, but easily the largest bed I slept in in Japan and well worth the investment. The shower was also excellent with both great water pressure and was tall enough to accommodate me at 6ft without sitting, a first for me here. The room was clean and well presented and even came with some games to occupy the kids. The staff weee helpful and happy to look after our bags before check in. The hotel also has a lovely roof terrace available which we weren’t expecting."

"Business Traveler. Hotel aesthetic was very cool from the basement library and kitchen to the Gin Bar. Service at check was fast and efficient. Room size was a little small but manageable (similar in size to many Japanese Business Hotels) so more than one person would be tight. Also might be difficult to work in the room but you can always go down to the basement where they have comfortable chairs and tables. Location was convenient and only a 5-7 minute walk to Kyoto Station. I would consider to stay again when I visit Kyoto in the future."

Kyoto Travel Guide: Top Attractions, Transport & Where to Stay

Kyoto Travel Guide: Top Attractions, Transport & Where to Stay

Kyoto feels like old Japan – temples, shrines, wooden streets – but with good Wi-Fi and convenience stores everywhere. Must-sees: Fushimi Inari's red gates, the golden Kinkaku-ji temple, and Gion (spot a geisha or someone dressed as one). Food rocks: try matcha sweets, cheap tasty ramen, or fancy kaiseki meals if you wanna splurge.

Getting To & Around Kyoto

No airport in Kyoto. Fly into Kansai (KIX) or Osaka Itami (ITM) – both about 1-1.5 hours out. Kansai gets most international flights; Itami is smaller and closer (good for local flights). Take the Haruka Express train to Kyoto Station for speed, or grab a cheaper highway bus.

Late arrival? A few airport hotels near Kansai run shuttles, but it’s worth pushing to Kyoto Station area.

Downtown Kyoto is walkable if you stay near Kawaramachi or Gion – temples, markets, and alleys are close. Buses are super useful (get a day pass!), as subways don't cover much. Bikes work too, if you don't mind busy streets.

Kyoto Travel Guide: Top Attractions, Transport & Where to Stay

Where to Stay in Kyoto

Kyoto has golden temples next to neon alleys, bamboo forests hiding tiny bars. Pick your vibe:

  • Gion The famous bit. Geisha areas, lantern-lit lanes, pricey traditional inns. Perfect for first-timers okay with crowds and cost. Nights are lively; mornings near Yasaka Shrine are quiet.
  • Higashiyama Temple central. Charming old streets. See Kiyomizu-dera early without crowds. Quiet at night – shops close early. Best for culture lovers who turn in early.
  • Arashiyama Nature spot. Bamboo forests at dawn, river views. Beautiful but quiet – you'll need the train back for dinner or nightlife.
  • Kawaramachi Real city life. Covered shopping streets, sushi bars, pubs open late. Best food and only real nightlife, but streets are tight.
Kyoto Travel Guide: Top Attractions, Transport & Where to Stay

What to Do in Kyoto

  • Fushimi Inari That red gate tunnel. Go at sunrise to beat crowds. Hike higher for peace – most folks give up quick!
  • Kiyomizu-dera Famous wooden temple with great views. (Part is under wraps until 2024, but still worth it). Tip: Drink from the Otowa waterfall for luck (pick health, long life, or smarts).
  • Arashiyama Bamboo Grove Packed by 9 AM. Go super early or skip the main path – the nearby temples and river cafes are nicer. The monkey park uphill has awesome views (better than the monkeys!).

Excellent
MMs TCSelected Room: Harmony Suite A very clean and spacious room with a distinctive layout that boasts ample living space for a couple or family with small children. The big bathtub and plenty of natural light coming from the large windows were the major highlights of the room. Location: Prime location. Situated right next to Kyoto Station, it is a 1-minute walk from the hotel to the station. Staff: All staff members were very hospitable and gave you the best support they could when attending to requests. Gajamer was amazing! He helped us check-in and was very professional and polite in any possible way. Meals: We did not select any meal plans for this stay. Overall experience: A very pleasant stay, with all expectations met as shown in the photos and descriptions. Strongly recommended.

YYI HUEYThe accommodation experience in the townhouse is really authentic. The house is beautiful and very comfortable as soon as you enter the house. No matter how you take photos there, it is very interesting. We were very satisfied with the food at the hotel because we have family members who don’t eat beef. Although the hotel couldn’t do it at first, they were willing to communicate and let us choose different foods. Thank you very much!

PPui SheungThe hotel is located near the Kyoto Station. The room size is larger than many hotels in Japan. The hotel provide free dessert and drinks after lunch hour, some snacks with beer or wine after 6pm. The breakfast is delicious and had lots of choice. During my stay, the hotel provide materials for making a tatami coaster. It is worth to stay in this hotel. I will choose this again when I come back to Kyoto.

AAiliIt is a lovely place to stay with a fancy roof top bar. The location is okay, not far away from Kiyomizu dera temple, but still several bus stops from Kyoto Station. The hotel does provide shuttle bus to Kyoto Station but only allows carry-on luggages. The breakfast from the a la carte menu is mainly omelette, so you will probably get bored of it after trying for two consecutive days. The drip coffee provided by the hotel is amazing. Overall, a good experience to stay at this hotel. The bonus goes to the skincare products they provided for free.

GGuest UserGood location and modern. 7-11 store is linked to the hotel lobby and there is security as hotel guests have to tap the room card to exit 7-11 to enter the lobby. Easy check-in as there are many staff at the check-in counters. Checking-out is a breeze as guests are able to do it by yourself at the machines. Will definitely return when in Kyoto :)

GGuest UserFirst of all, thank you to the front desk staff who check us in when we encounter error on the self check in and gave us a free upgrade… ours was the compact room or something and was at a lower level, she upgraded us to a higher floor on level 7 with a view of the train station. Thank you for making our trip in Kyoto a memorable one. The room was big with a long sofa which we can sit and have our meals, enjoy the view and even put our large luggage. Will book again next trip to Kyoto. Sorry didn’t managed to ask for your name. Throughly enjoy my stay with this hotel and it’s pretty near to aeon mall and konbini stores. Thanks again!

GGuest UserVery polite and helpful staff. The hotel and rooms were very clean. The breakfast was ok and they offered both japanese and continental options. The standard rooms on the 2nd floor had no view as there was a large wall in front of the window so i would definitely not recommend this option. The premium rooms are on higher floors and offer better view, if that is what you are going after. Overall it was a comfortable and clean place to stay for a few nights

AAhmet ZekiDear Sir/Madam, I recently had the opportunity to stay at your hotel, and I would like to share my experience with you. First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for the exceptional design and comfort your property offers. Kengo Kuma’s architectural brilliance, with its use of natural wood, thoughtful lighting, and integration of art pieces, creates a stunning and serene atmosphere. Additionally, the comfort of the rooms, the quality of the materials, the size of the beds, and the premium linens were truly impressive. In terms of design and comfort, your hotel sets a remarkable standard. However, I did encounter several service-related issues that I believe could be addressed to enhance the overall guest experience. I would like to share these points in the hope that they are helpful for future improvements: 1. Breakfast Lounge and Sushi Area: The proximity of these two areas creates a strong odor upon entering, which can be unpleasant. Improved ventilation could easily mitigate this issue. 2. Food and Beverage Service After Breakfast: The lack of food and beverage service after breakfast hours was inconvenient. At the very least, providing a space for guests to enjoy tea or coffee would be a welcome addition. 3. Room Service Availability: After a long journey, I was surprised to learn that room service was unavailable and that only rice balls could be provided. Expanding room service options would greatly improve the guest experience. 4. Flexibility with Breakfast Hours: Due to the time difference, I arrived slightly late for breakfast at 10:10 AM and was informed that nothing could be served. Even my request for tea did not receive a clear response. Greater flexibility in accommodating guests dealing with jet lag would be highly appreciated. 5. Lobby Services: The inability to offer anything to drink or even host a guest in the lobby felt restrictive. This could be improved to make the lobby a more welcoming space. 6. Spa Experience: I was unable to experience the renowned Banyan Tree spa as it was fully booked. Expanding spa reservation availability would help meet guest expectations for this signature offering. In summary, while the hotel excels in design and comfort, the service offerings seem to be constrained by rigid rules and limited hours, which can detract from the overall guest experience. I strongly believe that adopting a more flexible, guest-centered approach would significantly enhance satisfaction. If the above issues were addressed, I would certainly consider staying at your hotel again during my next visit to Kyoto. Once again, I want to thank you for the exceptional design and comfort provided during my stay and hope that these suggestions contribute to further elevating your standards. Best regards, next visit to Kyoto. Once again, I want to thank you for the exceptional design and comfort provided during my stay and hope that these suggestions contribute to further elevating your standards. Best regards,

JJasmineThe room is compact, as expected for a typical Japanese hotel, but it’s well-equipped with thoughtful features like a washing machine, microwave, and bathtub. Essentials such as a hairdryer, electric kettle, air purifier/humidifier, air-conditioning, and basic toiletries are all provided. In the lobby, you can help yourself to additional amenities like combs, toothbrushes, razors, cotton buds, and body sponges. Housekeeping changes towels and clears trash daily, provided you place the designated magnet outside your door. Complimentary coffee, tea, and water are available at the lobby’s self-service corner. From 3–8 PM, there’s a free snack bar and a sake corner. At check-in, we received 12 coin tokens (for three people over five nights), which can be exchanged for sake—non-alcoholic options are available too. The only downside is a slightly damp, musty smell in the room. Location-wise, it’s excellent—just a short walk from the train station and close to convenience stores. Note that there’s no complimentary breakfast buffet
