"Very simple hotel with basic facilities, only 3 rooms each level. Room size was actually decent with enough space for a small table. Very affordable prices, 10 mins walk to either rail by different operator. Would recommend for simple travelers!! There’s also a coin washing machine in the hotel!"

"The hotel's location is excellent, right next to Kyoto-Nishiōji Station on the Sanin Main Line, making it incredibly convenient for trips to Arashiyama and Kyoto Station. The hotel entrance is next to a FamilyMart, and it's an automatic door, quite discreet, so I initially had trouble finding it. The room wasn't huge, but the east-facing rooms offer a view of Kyoto Tower. The washing machine was a bit old. If you need to use it, you can get coins from the front desk."

"Just got back and I have to give a huge shout-out to the front desk staff at M's Plus Shijo-Omiya! My phone suddenly broke down during my stay, which made getting around and contacting my family back home incredibly difficult. Thanks to all the lovely ladies and gentlemen at the front desk, who helped me so much – some of their help even seemed to go above and beyond their duties. I really must have caused them a lot of trouble, I feel so bad! As for the hotel itself, the location is great (I wouldn't say the absolute best, but then the price would be higher, right?). I recommend everyone carefully read the 'reviews' section, there's some really useful information there."

"The room is exactly as shown in the pictures—very spacious, especially for a 5-night stay, including the bathroom. The beds were clean and comfortable, and there was extra bedding available in the closet. However, the curtains could use an upgrade, as a lot of sunlight comes through early in the morning. The location was just okay. We had to commute quite a bit, mostly by walking and taking the bus to reach central areas like Nishiki, Gion, and Pontocho. While we enjoyed the neighborhood itself, the commute was less ideal in the summer heat. There is no permanent staff at the front desk, but you can use the phone for assistance. The two staff members we did interact with were helpful and welcoming. It was also convenient to be able to leave our luggage locked at the entrance. Cleaning could definitely be improved—there were noticeable layers of dust on furniture like the TV, bed headboard, and windos. Also, the hallway AC was crazy cold for summer. Coming in from the heat, the temperature difference was extreme, unhealthy, and even coming out from your room in the morning was uncomfortable."

"The rooms are typically small, but the hygiene is excellent. You can do your laundry, but getting a slot is tough; I suggest going early in the morning for the wash and dry, though I could never wake up that early myself. The hotel's location is good, with a direct bus to Kyoto Station. There's no breakfast, but you can grab a meal at Sukiya right outside, which is pretty good value for money. If the hotel were a bit cheaper, it would be great, but for weekend prices, I'd probably look elsewhere."

The room was clean and tidy, and the bedding was soft and gentle on the skin, ensuring a great night's sleep. The toiletries were natural herbal products, which felt lovely to use. Breakfast offered a wide variety of options, with freshly baked bread that was crispy and delicious, and freshly squeezed juice that had just the right amount of sweetness. Getting to & around Kyoto

No airport in Kyoto. Fly into ​Kansai (KIX) or ​Osaka Itami (ITM) – both about 1-1.5 hours out. Kansai gets most international flights; Itami is smaller and closer (good for local flights). Take the Haruka Express train to Kyoto Station for speed, or grab a cheaper highway bus.

Every staff member I encountered had an excellent attitude, the room was spotless, and even though the turndown service only provided a bottle of water, it was a pleasant and thoughtful touch. Thai brands truly excel in their service consciousness and aesthetic sense. The room itself was incredibly comfortable, and with no other guests in the public lobby areas, I thoroughly enjoyed the bliss of reading a book alone.

You might have to queue at night, and they don't accept coins but you can pay by credit card. The hotel can arrange kimono rentals for you, and the rental shop is right next door. The prices are fair, and you don't need to return the kimono to the shop yourself; you can simply give it to the hotel front desk in the evening or the next morning, with no extra charge.

MM501724****I stayed in a twin tatami room on a ladies-only floor. There aren't many rooms on each floor, and the shared restrooms, vanity area, and shower rooms are all accessible via key card through one main entrance. These shared facilities were spacious and immaculately clean. This was my first experience staying in a hotel with shared bathroom facilities, but my stay was very comfortable and peaceful. The subway station is right outside the hotel, and a bus stop is just a five-minute walk away. It's less than a 20-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station, and you'll pass Higashi Hongan-ji Temple on the way. There are many izakayas and Japanese restaurants in the vicinity. The Wagyu beef I had on my first night was absolutely amazing. If the weather isn't too hot, you can walk to popular sights like Kiyomizu-dera, Sannenzaka, and Hanamikoji in about 20-30 minutes. If you get tired, there are plenty of bus stops along the way. A bus ride costs 230 JPY, and I used my digital Suica card to simply tap and go. Fushimi Inari Shrine is also easily accessible; you can take the subway from the station right outside the hotel, and it's a very short ride. When I was in Osaka, I didn't carry any cash at all, relying entirely on my digital Suica card for all transactions.

And it's not a real onsen; my friend's superior room was the real onsen. We were given a small room at the back of the hotel, but thankfully there weren't too many graves. When I asked the staff at the entrance to take photos for me, they were very reluctant and had a sour face. At night, on my way back to my room from my friend's, the receptionist on duty in the lobby was also very rude. Overall, I was dissatisfied with the service. The facilities are excellent, very new, and the hotel is quite small, but that's typical for Japanese hotels. The decor is also very nice; the aesthetics are on point. There are at least three cemeteries and a bunch of shrines nearby; bring some amulets if you like.

The location truly can't be beat. The hotel offers a smoking room, a public bath facility, a bar, and a restaurant. Upon check-in, guests can enjoy free soft drinks at the bar's soft drink area before 5:30 PM, and you can even take them back to your room, which is a fantastic perk. Each floor also has vending machines and ice makers, and some floors offer laundry facilities. Breakfast options are somewhat limited, but the quality is high. They provide a set meal served in a three-tiered bento box, with four small dishes on each tier; the taste is perfectly acceptable. The food is generally a mix of Japanese and Western styles, so if you're not accustomed to these cuisines, it might not be the best choice for you. The hotel rooms are a bit small, but they are compact and well-equipped. For room cleaning, you have two options: full cleaning or partial cleaning. However, I found that daily housekeeping after check-in was a bit superficial, with some details overlooked. I would suggest the hotel strengthen its staff training in this area. Despite this minor point, it's generally a great hotel. Regarding some negative reviews I saw before booking, which mentioned front desk staff discriminating against foreign tourists, I personally experienced no issues at all. In fact, I'd even describe them as enthusiastic (perhaps because I speak Japanese?). For me, their service attitude was certainly satisfactory. I also noticed that many of the negative reviews were concentrated in 2023. Perhaps there's been a change in management? I'm not sure, but personally, their attitude and service were impeccable.

My room, located on the 9th floor, had a distinct urine-like odor when the air conditioning was turned on. The smell only dissipated after I used the air purifier.
