It wasn't small, and the room had a very strong smell of new paint (formaldehyde is colorless and odorless, so the smell was probably from wood glue and paint). The window could only be opened a crack, so ventilation wasn't great. Other cleanliness was acceptable; the slippers, towels, and toiletries were clean. The only drawback was the stains on the bedding. There were two hairs under the pillow, one long and one short. I specifically checked the blanket and found some short hairs there too. But based on online reviews and the creases in the bedding, I guessed they were dropped by cleaning staff or leftovers from the original wash. Overall, though, it was still a good experience; these are just minor hygiene details that many hotels can't avoid. I suggest the hotel open the windows and turn on the air conditioning more often for ventilation; it will improve the experience for future guests.
