Stayed at this hotel and it was a really nice experience. The room was clean, the AC worked well, and the staff were friendly. The location is easy to access too. Overall, a comfortable stay and I’d be happy to come back.

This hotel is centrally located with plenty of eateries and major shopping mall Tunjungan Plaza within 5 mins walk away. The breakfast buffet has a very good spread and the entire hotel was very clean and orderly. The service staff were very helpful and able to converse in simple English. This is a super value for money hotel to stay with the family.

Hi hotel management I like to thank you for good hospitality good service ,staffs friendly and responsive fast attended to room service. From reception ,restaurant room service and maintenance dept . Door men and security staff all showing friendly Only problem during my stay 4 night it sound from motobike scramble noisy continuously heard till all night till early morning at the hotel front side facing middle circle main road with traffic light And room facing back also have sound problem.this music sound beat constantly all night long start 11 onward ill till morning 4.30 am .until you can hear it and follow the music all night till morning .frankly honestly during our stay we cannot sleep well because disturbing by the sound problem. The hotel not fault only the surroundings noise make it a barely at night during sleeping. My suggestion the owner this hotel need take drastically measures to upgrade the all windows to fixed panel glass sound proof .I pity to staffs always try apologies for inconvenience when we tell them the problem matter i know they cannot solve the problem beyond they control. Only the owner hotel need try sleep at hotel both side room front and back and see your self I hope the the best in future some changes and,put effort solving the sound problems .the hotel everything are good except the sound problem surrounding.

The grandcity mall is disappointing.. Empty ghost town Nevertheless we can grab anywhere else. Hotel is good, breakfast is great. only suggestion give a little more space because no space to solat with large baggage. Space constraints.

Good location near river and Tunjungan plaza which is a massive mall and loads of places to eat including food courts. Clothing especially from Indonesian stores are good value. Hotel very clean and comfy bed and pillows. Bathroom little small in family room but good to have separate seating area with more space. Breakfast not bad not loads of options but perfectly fine. NB: very very steep hill to get to front entrance which is near impossible for a taxi to climb with a turn as well.

Great location near the train station. Friendly staff, English spoken. Large room with huge comfortable bed, very clean, excellent hot shower. We arrived from Bromo lacking sleep and slept peacefully here for 10 hours, very quiet, good soundproofing. There was a damp patch on the wall (see photo) but the room itself was not damp so not a problem, and we did kill a couple of small roaches but again not a problem. Nice views of the city. Excellent breakfast of fresh fruit and asian choices, enjoyed the sauteed greens, veg curry, tofu and tempe. We enjoyed our stay very much, refreshed and ready for our onward journey to Yogyakarta. Highly recommend, would stay again. To improve, the hotel could provide filtered water dispensers to remove the need for plastic bottled water in rooms.

Varna Culture Hotel is located at strategic location closer to Tunjungan Plaza and many local eateries around. But I was given a room at smoking floor although when I booked I already requested for nonsmoking room. We have to inhale lots of 2nd hand smoke which was quite bad for our throat and causing us hard to breathe. The bathroom had given us lots of problems, after we took a shower, we realised the water cannot flow into the drainage hole and stayed floating next to the toilet bowl. The whole floor flooded as the floor design was a problem. When we complained to front desk staff, they already knew the problem but they cannot do anything. They only offered the housekeeper to mop away the water. Which the floor still wet. The water pressure is too low while we on the shower. The shower head positioned wrongly on wall and not flexible which caused the shower water to shoot directly to the opposite wall instead of to our body or face. It wet the whole towel rack and the toilet bowl behind us. Hence, we have to hold the shower head most of the time to ensure we can clean our body thoroughly. Breakfast served was average. The juices were quite plain and no fruit flavour. The overall food served was OK. No minibar in the hotel. We have to buy ice cube 5,000rp for a cup of 4pcs ice cudes.
