Sitting on an old wooden boat by the reed marshes, the planks worn smooth and shiny by time, the wind sweeps through the reeds, carrying the refreshing scent of water, rustling the leaves softly, as if the entire marshland is quietly cheering to the rhythm of the wind. Your fingertips trace the deep grain of the wood on the planks, feeling the heavy marks left by years of rowing by the old boatman. Looking up, you see clouds slowly rolling across the reed marshes, casting their shadows on the water, shimmering like flowing cloud patterns. In the distance, flocks of waterbirds fly out from the reeds, their wings brushing the water, splashing up tiny silver droplets. Several egrets skim the water's surface, their wings glistening with tiny water droplets. You don't need to... Determined to head to the birdwatching platform in the wetlands to photograph birds with a telephoto lens, I sat on an old wooden boat, swaying gently, letting the fragrance of reeds carry me into my arms, listening to the soft rustling of the wind through the reeds mixed with the calls of waterbirds, letting all my anxieties drift away with the current of the reed marshes. You may have seen artificially fed waterbirds in urban wetland parks, always feeling that birds that have lost their wildness lack a certain freedom and agility, until the moment the calls of waterbirds filled your ears, you realized that the most agile whispers of the wind have always been hidden deep in the wild reed marshes. In the future, when you are trapped in the cage of the city again, as long as you think of the birds flying in the reed marshes, you can find your own freedom again.

2. Tiger Hill (Huqiu)

Tiger Hill (Huqiu)

Tiger Hill is one of Suzhou’s most iconic landmarks, known for its rich history and scenic beauty. Often called the “first sight in Suzhou”, it features the leaning Yunyan Pagoda, ancient tombs, and lush gardens that reflect over 2,500 years of cultural heritage.

Walking towards the rolling terraced fields, the endless terraces spread out on the mountainside like layers of green ribbons. The wind blows along the contours of the terraces, carrying the sweet fragrance of rice blossoms, rustling the rice ears with a soft, gentle sound, as if the entire terraced field is singing a low chorus to the rhythm of the wind. Your fingertips brush against the wild grass along the edge of the field, feeling the profound warmth left by generations of mountain people cultivating the terraces. Looking up, you see clouds drifting slowly above the mountain peaks, casting their shadows on the water's surface, creating flowing cloud patterns. In the distance, mountain people carry hoes home, their mountain songs carried far on the wind. A few dragonflies skim the surface of the terraced fields, their wings brushing across the water, leaving delicate ripples. You don't need to be obsessed with rushing to the viewing platform of the famous rice terraces to take stunning sunrise photos. Just stroll slowly along the ridges of the terraces, letting the fragrance of rice brush against your cheeks in the wind, listening to the gentle rustling of the wind through the rice stalks mixed with the tunes of mountain songs, and melting all your anxieties into the profoundness of the rice terraces. You may have seen countless exquisite photos of rice terraces in city photography exhibitions, but you always felt that the images on the screen lacked the freshness of the scene. It wasn't until the fragrance of rice filled your lungs that you understood that the most profound whispers of the wind were always hidden in the continuous mountain rice terraces. In the future, when you are anxious due to the fast pace of city life, just think of the cloud shadows of the rice terraces, and you can find the most simple sense of peace again.

Tiger Hill Scenic Area is one of the most memorable places I visited in Suzhou. The combination of beautiful gardens, ancient history, and peaceful walking paths makes it a perfect escape from the busy city. The highlight was the iconic Leaning Tiger Hill Pagoda, which is even more impressive in person and offers great photo opportunities. I also enjoyed exploring the Sword Pool and learning about the legends connected to the hill. Every corner of the park feels well preserved and full of cultural charm. Whether you enjoy history, architecture, or simply relaxing in nature, Tiger Hill Scenic Area is definitely a worthwhile destination when visiting Suzhou.

Huqiu is one of the famous spots and must visit in suzhou. Famous people throughout the centuries have paid it a visit when visiting suzhou. The scenic area is big with many smaller attractions within the park. The pagoda, sword pond, bonsai garden are must visit spots but I love just strolling in nature and people watching too.

The park itself is very beautiful. There's plenty to explore and plenty to see. The pagoda is magnificent, and its slope truly resembles the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It's also worth noting that the park has quite a few locations, and stairs lead to almost all of them. Therefore, comfortable shoes are essential. It's literally a couple of minutes' walk from the metro.

Pingjiang Road is one of my favorite places in Suzhou because it perfectly captures the charm of the city's old water town atmosphere. Walking along the stone-paved street beside the peaceful canal felt like stepping back in time. The traditional houses, small stone bridges, teahouses, and local snack stalls create a relaxing and authentic experience. I also enjoyed browsing the unique shops selling handmade souvenirs and stopping for a drink at one of the cozy cafés. It is a wonderful place to slow down, take beautiful photos, and experience Suzhou's rich culture. I highly recommend visiting Pingjiang Road for a leisurely afternoon stroll.

Pingjiang Road is a must-visit site for travellers in Suzhou. The views of the river when walking are spectacular, even at night with its beautifully-lighten decors. The street features many shops for buying souvenirs and local products but also it has many options for tea, coffee and dessert for foreigners. You can also book a boat trip through the river to enjoy the views of Pingjiang Road!

Although it is a historical district, it has actually become very commercialized. The food is what you commonly see in the mainland, and the things sold are also what you usually see. However, there are still some Suzhou specialty snacks, as well as historical shops and Suzhou cultural and creative stores. It's a good place to come and buy some snacks and souvenirs after visiting the Humble Administrator's Courtyard. There are also good restaurants for lunch and dinner.
